http://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...-spotted-owl/2012/02/28/gIQAvxAUgR_story.html Once again the government is doing what government does best -- punishing winners and rewarding losers. This attempt to reverse Darwinian natural selection is just another example of stupid bureaucratic meddling. The lame, inept spotted owl is too passive to survive the competition from the larger, more active barred owl. On private land, no one would interfere with the inevitable process of extinction that awaits those who can't keep up. But the government believes that even the most inept and useless lifeform deserves a handout at taxpayer expense. We will pay people to go around shooting perfectly innocent birds so that a different bird can live there. Stupidity, thy name is bureaucrat.
Human meddling doesnt always work. Sometimes Nature is going to do what it is going to do. The Earth Saving climate-ers should watch the development of this one and take it to heart.
Policy is fine with me so long as administration officials are now required to include the slain barred owls into their diet.
I don't see any legitimate reason why gov't should interfere with this sort of thing, unless it's due to human factors that a species if becoming endangered, and, that's not the case here... Natural selection folks... SIDE NOTE: A plan like this was devised under President Bush, as well... Just pointing that out...
What's up with the f***in Spotted Owl anyway....I've been hearing about Spotted Owls for decades now...someones always out to save Spotted Owls somewhere. They seem to be a real pain in the ass...just let them die out and be done with it.
