I do not carry unless I intend to use it. Some of us could carry but we choose not to. I make it my business not to put myself in situations where I would need to carry. I have kept them in the vehicle and it has prevented a robbery because the would be thief say the gun and walked away before trying to get in to my vehicle. You should have seen his eyes and the comment. "******* Dirty Harry; (*)(*)(*)(*) that (*)(*)(*)(*)."
:/ It would be somewhat pointless to carry only in the context of "using it", when the premise for carrying a concealed weapon in based on a maybe instead of a certainty.
Correct it would but a gun can give some people bigger balls. Look if someone carries they need to examine why they carry. If they are near a place that is high crime and can not be avoided then by all means but if it can be avoided they should avoid it and not carry. This is my opinion and it does not bother me until I think about some of the people actually carrying. They have no business with a gun in any circumstance. They could not shoot a barn from the inside.
Well, its a non-issue assuming people do not put themselves in risky situations. However, you can do both, avoid areas and carry. Avoiding certain areas does not out right remove the possible need for a firearm, it reduces the odds. That is true. What is far more sad is that people actually defend those who have not taken the time to practice. See the "Concealed Carry Restrictions" thread. The most ridiculous and asinine conclusion of the thread, was that training and practice is actually the cause of accidents. lol
Command and control in combat cannot be effectively exercised looking through the peep sight of an M16 rifle.
Not carrying a Rifle identifies you to the enemy and makes you a liability on the battlefield. You don't want your RO to have to protect you. At the field grade level I'd generally agree, but if you're pounding dirt at the company level you should carry a long gun.
Me: Smith & Wesson Model 29 (.44 Magnum) with 6" barrel, Maqui holster...as soon as my CCW permit comes through. (Twenty MONTHS and counting, I'm geting rather annoyed.) My wife: Beretta 92 (9mm), mirror-image shoulder rig. (She is left-handed.)
Welcome to the land of corruption and (what I think I'm dealing with here) indifferent incompetence. (Or incompetent indifference, take your pick.)
No. My primary tool in combat was a PRC-25 radio (that my RTO carried), and which I used to very good effect.
Well I disagree with you. Today every Infantry Officer up to and including Lieutenant Colonels are armed with M-4s/M-16s.
Well, I didnt carry a weapon in combat, didnt need one, didnt want one. It was not necessary. An officer that needs a weapon to protect himself is not worthy of command. Indeed, the only reason that an officer should have a weapon is to shoot himself for not using his brains.
Well you've just discredited every Infantry Officers that's fought in Afghanistan and Iraq in the last 11 years.
No, I have not. I fought in Vietnam - a very different place - a very different war. A company commander in Afghanistan might not call in artillery fire, tactical air support, or a B-52 bomb strike, on any given day. That's what I did. All limited wars have their own rules; and, given the rules of engagement, we have no business putting our military at risk in Afghanistan. That said, it does not change what I said about officers carrying weapons. An officer is in charge by virtue of his knowledge and ability that are the atributes of leadership; and if he cannot rely on that alone, he is not worth the bullet to blow him to hell.
Kimber Ultra Carry CDP .45ACP for concealed carry in the city. S&W 625JM .45 revolver for open carry around the vacation cabin. Marlin 336SS .30-.30 (iron sights only) lever action rifle while hiking in the back country near the cabin. Mossberg 590A1 12 gauge for around the house in the city with 9 alternating slug-00 bucks loaded.
The only times I carry is when I go into the woods behind the house and when I take my morning winter outings. I live in a very wooded area. The map above is bear country and I live in it.
This what I have to careful of in Pinetop-Lakeside Arizona where we have our vacation cabin. http://www.wmicentral.com/news/bear...cle_42bae956-a266-11e0-b704-001cc4c002e0.html The woman eventually died. Oddly enough she lived in my town of Gilbert, Az as well.
I carry either a Sig P250 40 SW SC or a Kahr CM9. No one ever knows when or if they will need to protect themselves. It is not a planned event.
Unfortunately there is no carry - concealed or open - in this state. Even so, I'm looking at a Walther PPQ to plink with and a Ruger LCP to carry in the states that do acknowledge my CCW permit. I have a few other handguns around the house, but am getting the bug to get another.
