    I meant the bayonets themselves. The Nazis bayonetted prisoners for the fun of it at times. I'm sure everyone did.

    They put them on everything. They even put bayonets on heavy machine guns that required multiple people to move.

    As I recall Japanese bayonets were longer and thinner than those used by the Allies. Since there is no money riding on this I will make a wild and foolish guess. Were Japanese bayonets designed to avoid getting stuck or tied up in the ribs of an opponent?

    Their bayonets were about the same length as bayonets used by the Australian military. Australian bayonets were about a foot and a half long as well.

    The invasion of Okinawa began 67 years ago today. Both April Fool's Day and Easter Sunday fell on that day in 1945. A friend of mine ran a Higgins Boat back and forth that day. God rest the soul of Richard McCarroll.

    I don't know the technical term - but it is the sighting system used by battleships?

    I do not know which ship it is from...I will guess the Admiral Graf Spee.

    Though it looks REALLY big...maybe it's from an Iowa or Yamato or Nelson-class?

    I will stick with the Admiral Graf Spee.

    It is a telemeter, also known as a coincidence rangefinder.

    And, it is from the Graf Spee - the rangefinder in the picture is currently on display in Montevideo, Uruguay.
