Tough mountain for Murray to climb, facing Federer. A lot of big time experience there.

Well he has beaten Fed more times than he has been beaten ...apart from Grand Slam Finals in which I think the score is Fed 2 Andy nil. Maybe this will be his time. Andy has plenty of experience of being in Finals of Grand Slams, he just needs to start winning them. :woot:

Huge fight this weekend between two of the most talented mixed martial artist in the world. Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen.

My prediction - Sonnen via 5 round decision or late stoppage.

Are you watching the ITV news? Someone is saying the Saltire will fly above Wimbledon for the final and the Queen is going. She hates tennis. What chance does the boy have with that nonsense going on...

No I hadn't heard but he is our first Wimbledon finalist since 1938. I think let him enjoy it. Fed was playing very well today and obviously wants the title again. As long as Andy plays quite well, I'll be happy. It seems a big thing to everyone him just getting to the final. He is the underdog but he could do it. He said earlier this year that we would find out at Wimbledon whether Lendl was a good choice of coach.

Wow, it would be amazing if he did it. The Saltire, The Queen, A weeks Public Holiday, The Olympics renamed after him and he'll get a Knighthood, MBE, OBE and George cross all at one sitting. :)

P.S. maybe they got it wrong about the queen

and according to that it is No ten which will be flying the Saltire...but I just think, let him enjoy it. He's probably just thinking about the match anyway.

I agree with your prediction. If 185 had more wrestlers, Silva would have gotten his ass kicked many times by now.

I couldn't have said it better myself. If 185 looked like 155, stacked with talented wrestlers who can strike, Silva would have never made the run he's had in the UFC. If Silva did happen to make it past Chael, I'd like to see a super fight between Jon Jones and Silva. Jones would mop the floor with him.

Oh nothing against him enjoying it. But this nonsense the English media go on with makes it more difficult for him, not enjoyable. It just puts them (not just Andy, but their own football team and all the rest) under silly amounts of pressure and at the end of the day, distracts the guy from concentrating on doing the work.

Although I have a strong feeling nothing in the world distracts Ivan Lendl from concentrating on the work. Do you think he is what made the difference? I see a new maturity in how Murray is approaching his game and in particular, how he is handling it when he loses an important point.

He'll romp it. Though obviously I'll be sporting my saltire tshirt and hiding behind the settee when it goes pear shaped.

I think Lendl is. Did you see his face yesterday? Every move being ruthlessly analysed, he's still the logical computer brain he was when he played. I've been saying to Himself for a while now that Murray will not progress until he gets rid of his lovely Mum, his problem is immaturity and that's not going to change while she is there letting him stay immature. He needs to strike out on his own, but that would also be a risk, as she obviously takes care of all the domestics and leaves him free to just play. Maybe Lendl will make a difference.

Ahahaha...that's England for you and he's not even English. The whole country would probably have imploded if Henman ever won it. They don't realise nobody else cares about Wimbledon.

I do like that weeks public holiday idea though.

That's my point. The Queen was here in Greenock on Wednesday and in Glasgow on the same day, the old bird is criss-crossing the country on her jubilee tour, she must be on the point of dropping with exhaustion, but now she's to drop all of her exhaustion and hare it down to Wimbledon on the off chance. I'm turning the telly off until this is over.

Michelle Wie shoots a 2nd round 66 & is 1 shot off the lead! Would love for her to be in contention on Sunday.
Will be rooting for Serena & Murray to win this weekend. If Murray can keep the nerves in check, I think he can give Federer a good run. Considering Murray has a career record of 8 wins out of 15 matches with Federer, shows me can compete with him. Although I think grass is Federer's best surface though, so Murray really needs to play at his highest level.

And congratulations to the British guy and his Danish partner who won the male Doubles. Strangely the guy is called Marray, not Murray :p I don't think a Dane has won it before.

At least we won one. I won't be able to watch the Murray final.

Congrats to Federer for the win & to Murray for making the Final. I didn't see the whole match, but of what I saw, I thought Murray's serve really let him down. That last game in the 2nd set was a huge disappointment. He was up 30-0 & if he held on, the set would have went to tie-breaker. Instead Federer wins the game & set. I thought it was a real tide changer.

I didn't watch it, only a couple of games was enough for me, but the result is no surprise. The part I watched was 10 deuces in a row and Murray was doing well but to become a real champion he needs to kick in that extra gear champions have. I thought he was on the verge pushing to do that, but it didn't happen. At least he made the final and he did fight all the way.

You're right about that "extra gear". Everybody figured Federer was gonna play "great". For Murray to win, he had to match Fed's greatness & sadly he didn't. But I thought his effort was great & he fought all the way to the end.

He couldn't have given more effort and unlike other Slam Finals this was not embarrassing to watch. I thought he had a chance to win coming to the end of the second set but then Fed took his chance and after the rain break was definitely the superior player.

Andy has not been playing at his best this year so I did not have too much hope for Wimbledon. Now I just wish he could get himself a slam, so that he could at least relax and give his best tennis ability as well as effort but today Fed deserved to win. Hopefully Andy will see it as he said ' a step in the right direction' and feel a bit consoled by the support he got.

Soon as the roof closed, the table was weighted in Federer's favour. But he played a great game.

He always does that. Look at that flat-faced-fecker-Federer. Someone hit him with a shovel? Fecker.

Nice wee kids he has though. Lovely family.

Congrats to Dani Pedrosa who had an outstanding ride, props to Casey Stoner for surviving his 150mph get-off! Jorge leads the World Championship again.

F1 at Silverstone was another fairly boring procession, with a couple of moderately interesting offs to liven a dull day.

Tommy Hill maintained his championship lead from "Shaky" Byrne at Oulton Park In the latest British Superbikes weekend.

    What a day!

You don't get to No 4 in the world (best place No2) by having a 'Magnificent Defeat' attitude! ;) I don't know if you are a tennis fan apart from Wimbledon but I can remember when he got to the final of the US Open in I think 2008 and then bottled it. At that time he was no 2 in the world winning most of the Majors, but not slams and people started speaking about him being the rising No1. Then the other top tennis players said no he wasn't as he hadn't won a slam. Since then he just hasn't been able to get that slam and it has been largely psychological. Lendl was supposed to sort that but Andy has not had a great year. Like I said, I just hope he gets one, at least today he was not embarrassing though he can definitely play better but not put in more effort.

He is a winner. I wanted him to win today for himself.

Roger Federer always gets in Murray's way of winning a Grand Slam title as he was defeated by Federer in their two previous encounters in Grand Slam finals and Federer can be annoyingly good when he plays his best tennis but this Wimbledon title would be his last as his retirement age of 33 approaches while Murray has at least 5 more years to dominate men's tennis and entertain the British public every summer at Wimbledon.
