I fall into a tax bracket that would be affected by President Obama's higher tax proposals and I am very supportive of this, like many of the country's wealthiest people (Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Google founders, etc). Anyone else on this forum in that same category? I find it interesting that Republicans try speaking on behalf of the wealthy when many, many wealthy people disagree with them vehemently.

Don't all republicans support higher taxes? So long as they're in the form of "cuts" to poor people?

This is too simplistic a question. Start by ensuring people cannot avoid the intention of the law by taking renumerations from their jobs as share options and paying less than 50% of the tax they should.

If people see the system is fair and that government is using their money in a valuable mannner, they'd be more likely to feel OK about tax.

    touche.

You should reconsider. Taxes on the wealthy are absurdly low right now and one of the drivers of the deficit.

It's not really that simplistic. I'm asking if other people affected by the proposed changes mind or not.

American's voted for bigger government, so taxes should be raised on all income brackets.

No, they voted for smart government that doesn't favor one group over another. Taxes should have never been lowered on the wealthy to begin with.

Did you not read the premise of the thread? How do Republicans explain the countless wealthy who support higher taxes for themselves, including myself?

That makes literally no sense. How would the wealthy keep low income earners in their place...by keeping the low income earners taxes low and taking higher taxes themselves?

And yes, the founders of Google are dumbasses. Bill Gates is a dumbass. That must be the answer. They aren't actually geniuses or anything.

They are geniuses. They know a more powerful federal government, who already works in their interesr, would be beneficial for them .

It literally doesnt help me at all when the government robs more money from "the rich"

    Economics disagrees.

Income inequality is one of the greatest drivers of both misery and economic instability. If I'm a business owner, I want a strong middle class with money to buy products with. We have to close the deficit. The wealthy have had a break for over a decade now. They can afford to lose that break.

Well your "smart" government costs more to run, and since you voted for it, you better be willing to pay for it and not just expect another income group to do that for you.

Wow!!! Just another stupid thread from a clueless progressive liberal. Bill Gates and Warren Buffet have been known for exploiting tax code to avoid paying tax for years. Google?? LMAO!@!@ Have you been living under the rock? There is a BIG headline on Bloomberg this morning that the company routes most of its profit to Bermuda to avoid paying tax in the US.

This is just another deceitful liberal attempt.

    THREAD CLOSED.

Me too. I'm worth "billions and billions" (as Carl Sagan was fond of saying). I'm prolly worth about 75 billion - maybe 100 billion - though I don't have as much as I'm worth, you understand. Nevertheless, each night before going to sleep, I pray to God and beg him to make the politicians tax me out the ass and take my money.

I do not support higher taxes for anyone, and that includes the wealthy.

It is their money. If a wealthy person wishes to pay, they can do so voluntarily.

That's the WHOLE point. You are proving our point for us: loopholes like that need to be closed, rates need to be raised. Thank you for such a convincing argument in my favor.

    Bless you!

Why is that? The wealthy have had a nice tax break for a decade now. We can afford to start paying our fair share again.

So you support no taxes whatsoever?

well. the tax increases proposed by obama on only the rich would generate enough money to run the country for only 11 days.... so that proves the only point in raising the taxes would be to punish the rich. because it does little to actually help the economy.
