To me at least, it is unlikely anyone (even the NK Nutjob) would be ignorant enough to force a war they cannot possibly win. So ,my question for you, the informed and quivering masses awaiting the endgame. Should we just scare this guy into submission?
"No....it may backfire and start a real war," and, "Don't worry about it...he's just puffing up his chest." I strongly disapprove of brinksmanship in international relations. Proportional retaliation is called for If they launch a skirmish or limited offensive. In the event of a full-blown offensive campaign or nuclear attack from NK, conquer the country via use of conventional weapons and transfer control to the state of South Korea to proceed with unification. If the PRC gets involved we should back-pedal fast before things can escalate further and negotiate for peace, even if it means compromising on some of our interests in East Asia. It is important for the States to avoid making a foe of China.
Absolutely not! The U.S. must not call his bluff or dare him to launch an attack. Li'l Kim is nothing more than a 28-year-old toddler and dictator. If challenged, he might have a hissy-fit and stage a conventional attack (not nuclear) on South Korea. Counting reserves, Li'l Kim's got some four million toy soldiers to attack South Korea. They'd roll through South Korea like a hot knife through butter. The best possible thing Obama can do is to just let Kim continue to bribe him, and send Kim some more money for his toy box. Keep the child happy.
he is merely trying to prove his credibility to the conservative old dinosaur generals. its all for their benefit. all sound and fury signifying nothing. the west shud ignore him
Something along the lines of what we are doing now.....but on steroids. Instead of a destroyer group....a carrier group. Instead of a couple stealth aircraft....the first airborne and a couple dozen B-2's .F-22's and B'52's for cleanup. Instead of waving our fingers at the moron....telling him straight out we will eliminate everything he has ever known in this life if he is serious. And making damn sure China knows it too.
Kim Jr. is...Mini-me Blow up the world is all they want and kept threatening us with. I say let them fire their outdated missiles and be humiliated when they get shot down by Japanese patriot missiles.
This pretty much sums up my position. China wants to be a nation among nations. This could be a wonderful opportunity for them, and the rest of the world to get a twofer deal
What do you know of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army? Do you have some insight to share?
Kim needs a victory against America to consolidate his power. Obama needs to give Kim a victory if Obama's domestic project is to continue. Appeasement is what will happen in one form or another.
This pronouncement from someone who 10 minutes ago was completely unaware of the internal power struggle in North Korea
You'd do well to follow your own advice. I am sure post 15 is lathered with evidence but I surely cant find it
There's more to this Kabuki dance than just the Korean Generals. The Korean Workers Party, the Chinese Communist Party, the ROK and Japan are also dancers in the production. There is deep gamesmanship going on beyond simple consolidation of internal power by the youngest Kim. - - - Updated - - - The facts are in evidence. Again, nothing will be gained by getting personal.

you assume facts not in evidence, but let's leave that for another day. You believe Obama should do nothing in response to Kim's provocations don't you? If so, how will Obama get Kim to stop the threats, provocations and proliferation?
