http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/jul/29/pope-francis-openness-gay-priests This of course will not change the minds of the "religious" homophobes on this board, as just like the soccer hooligans of the 1980's, they are not following their cause, they are using it to justify their actions. However, they should. If they think that they have some deeper insight into the desires of god himself, they would be deceiving themselves. Nevertheless, the hatred which engulfs them will prevail; hating everything which is not male, white and hetrosexual.
I think "do not judge" is a major tenant of christianity and pope seems to remember it , maybe he can start giving excommunications left and right to sinners .
To be fair, he's only really saying he's OK with Christian (or would be Christian) gays. I think this says less about his attitude to homosexuality and more about his attitude to non-believers.
If we are religious enough to accept that we are created by God, then we do not have the right to judge others for what they are, and thus the creator had the sole authority to do such.
Did you proof read your OP? Your own hatred and bigotry, will only make your own life miserable, no one else really cares. As for the pope. What can we say about a bloke who wears a dress, and drives around in the gayest golf buggy on the planet?
Herein lies the problem with "creation" as you'd have to group murderers in to this. However, I would like to see the supposid christians, put an end to their bigottry and their use of religion to justify it. Currently they are simply hiding behind religion; using it to justify their irrational hatred. - - - Updated - - - God apparently created us atheists also... Of course we atheists don't believe that, but christians do and they are not acting towards others, as they are supposed to... A common trend with them from what I see.
I do not feel compelled to be liberal and forgiving towards the biggotted and unforgiving. In fact I think it is very dangerous for social liberals to be all nice and liberal, towards people who want to impose their views on others.
They have to nullify their beliefs first before they could never be considered as bigots, which is quite needs a lot of consideration if only not to make someone not culpable as per their faith. Lev. 20:13, "If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman, both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death. Their bloodguiltness is upon them"
This isn't news. The Catholic church doesn't "hate" gay people anymore than it "hates" murderers or thieves.
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1 Corinthians 7:8-9&version=NIV " 8 Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I am. 9 But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion. "
Quoted from the same book which allows you to seel your daughter into slavery and prohibits christians from eating pork and shellfish. Lets get some consistency and stop cherry picking these documents to fit our own agenda and lust for bacon sandwiches.
LOL,I did not hear christians nowadays go to jail because they sold their daughters, well, suits them fine, they will not be so concerned about cholesterols and red tides. But aside with the abomination the catholic church did embrace the third sex as a part of the flock, that should be a good gesture for no one amongst us is perfect, we are all sinners and they are no exemptions.
"We are all sinners", how very biblical . This should really be quantified as "we are all sinners, as per the <insert religion> definition of "sin"". Interestingly enough (to illustrate my point), of the 10 commandments, we are not to take the lords name in vane and respect our father (who may or may not be sexually abusing his children), but committing "rape" is not mentioned. I cannot help but question the moral compass of the people who came up with these commandments, when there are such glaring deficiancies in the list.
I will just consider this my last reply for we are way off topic here, I hope you'll understand. We have to read the entire context of the bible to learn some more knowledge. Galatians 5:19-21 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy,[a] drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
I hope that this is not the case, we are only slightly off topic here and this is important. You cannot use the bible to define people who do not believe it, you cannot call me a sinner and expect me to accept that, because it is your definition, not mine. You may chose to live by these rules and principles, but noone else is bound by them. The same is true of the gays and religion, it would seem that homosexuality is forbidden in chrstianity, fair enough. But you cannot force that on others and you (by your own rules) should not condemn non-christian gays.
Okay then, I think you do follow, let me invoke the 6th commandment of the 10, "Thou shalt not kill", we would be incarcerated, penalized if we don't follow. Well, about the third sex it's tolerated here in the US but never in Russia, but still the Roman Catholic do embrace it knowing that we are not a perfect being after all, we do have deficiencies.
On a casual glance it would seem that indeed the vast majority of us do follow it. However, "why" do I not kill someone? If it was not illegal to murder someone, would I do it? No. If it was not a commandment not to murder someone, would I do it? No. Do you know that the studies since Napolian, through all major wars, including Vietnam, WW's I & II, that we have avoided if possible killing our opponent? Soldiers admitted to having a clear line of sight and purposefully aiming to miss. Over and over the cases are clear and consistent. Additional to that, during WWI, in the tunnels between the Allied and German lines, soldiers would pass medical supplies. They would throw notes to each other, warning of upcoming shelling campaigns. This isn't because of one of the 10 commandments, it is because we (like most spiecies on the planet) are pre-programmed not to kill each other.
Same Pope that gave a speech about how non believers can be saved if they lead a good life, repeating statements made by Pope Benedict and others... keep up.
if the laws are changing we must obey them, we do not sell our daughters because it is a crime Romans 13:1-7 states, “Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.” Read more: http://www.gotquestions.org/laws-land.html#ixzz2aXL0Ab4c
He's saying who is he to judge another person... That's an important part of Christianity, and, it's good to see that the Pope remembers that...
I really like The Onions take on this. Really good work here. http://www.theonion.com/articles/vatican-quickly-performs-damage-control-on-popes-t,33292/
It was never forgotten. This is a pathetic attempt by the gay mafia to pretend that Catholics always hated gays. Nothing in what the Pope said has changed the Christian perspective on homosexuality at all. Hate the sin love the sinner has always been a staple of Christianity. This is a pathetic attempt to pretend the Pope is accepting homosexuality or is for gay marriage when he has already come out and in the strongest terms said he is against it.
Well, I think it's good that the pope is understanding about gays, but what does he think about the gay pedophile priests? That's where the problem is.......
