Why isnt Africa more advanced than white countries?

People argue that environment explains the difference in the technological advancement between whites and blacks. If this is right, why is South America and Africa third world when they have more resources than North America and Europe?

 

When the people of a land are exploited/abused... that explains a lot.

 

Technological advancement can alleviate much suffering but it isn't necessarily THE universally defining prerequisite for obtaining human happiness or purpose in life.

 

Initially, it was climate mostly, I would imagine. I've seen other people posit this, and it seems sound. Sweltering heat and dangerous animals do not exactly make for the most conducive environment for human advancement. Since then, it has probably been more based on the development of a less successful culture. To my knowledge, science has never produced any kind of solid, credible findings that show one ethnicity to be superior or inferior to another. However, culture is an entirely different matter. And many cultures around the globe and throughout history have been vastly superior or inferior to one another. Western culture has produced more human advancement than any other culture in the history of the world. So it should be no surprise that not only are we more advanced but that the more westernized Africa becomes, the more advanced it becomes as well.

 

Rarely is Johnny-C, or any liberal/socialist/progressive/communist correct about anything, but in his tiny offering in this case, that is correct to whatever degree.

Colonlialism, exploitation, racism, and corruption have made it next to impossible for the average African to make any progress.

That said, today the principle reasons they can't make progress is b/c of the radical, political left (certainly including the Republican leadership); especially the environmental movement. The United States certainly does our share to keep them down - funding communist butchers, killing millions with malaria, constantly standing in the way of modernization and industrialization, doing nothing to assist in education, etc.

It's sad.

 

This is what race pimps do...they simplify explanations and make discussions arbitrary. What Johnny means to say is that the exploitation of Africa still has effects today. But there are other factors involved too (which Johnny won't acknowledge because he's Johnny) but Johnny is partly right.

 

You can try talking about what happened to a people and leave out the ugly parts all you want; not everyone will FALL for that (certainly not 'me').

Some people want their specious perspectives to be embraced as truth, but they need to be aware that not everyone is going to give them a free pass.

 

Read full post. I agree with you on the xploitation part. I just disagree with how you think always giving arrogant one-liners actually accomplishes anything.

From what I remember from my college African history class, it was the lack of good harbors that prevented the development of seafaring trade, so since they were limited to over land trade, it retarded their development.

 

African Americans have had equal rights since the 60s. That means the last 2 generations should be caught up, or close to it. But they're not.

Before you complain, think about this. Most other ethnic groups assimilate within 2 generations and do as well as white people. Yet black people in America have not. It's a cultural problem, just admit it. Why do africans coming here (the ones actually from africa) do so well, while the ones in the ghetto continue to do so poorly?

I expect a response along the lines of "naive" and "ignorant" etc. but nothing of substance.

I forgot to mention this. Africa was divided along geographic lines and not ethnic lines, resulting in centuries of conflict and civil war. Not the most suitable environment for social advancement.

 

YES! Perfect excuse to voice my recent conclusions on this very topic.

I'll try to keep this short. Basically, it comes down to genetic personality dispositions.

One day, some humans in Africa were in the horn of Africa. They decided to go fishing. But they weren't finding a lot of fish. So they decide to go farther out to see in search of more, further than anyone had before, because they wanted to see if there were more fish and were willing to take the risk to do so. They went out there, and caught some fish. They were so successful they went even farther the next day - that's when they spotted some land on the other side of the sea. They went back to their tribe and told everyone about it. Those that were risk takers, who thought the trade off between the risk of travel and the potential resource reward that lay on this new land was a good bet to take. Others didn't want to take risks, and stayed in the village. The ones that wanted to see crossed the water and ended up in Arabia.

Rinse and repeat for thousands of years - some want to see what lies beyond the next hill, some want to stay where they are and don't want to move. The ones that were adventurous enough to eventually make it to Europe found a much colder and harsher climate than the Arabian deserts they were used to. To survive, they had to be smarter. The human body cannot survive naturally outside the tropics, so only those resourceful to perservere through the harsher weather and create the necessary technology to survive would live and, by extension through reproduction, thrive in Europe. Their climate eventually caused white skin to be more advantageous than the darker skin they had in Arabia (though not that much lighter - remember, Arabs are Caucasian; the real difference came from crossing into the Middle East from Africa, where significantly lighter skin tones were selected for over black, thus why blacks only exist in Africa). Their inherent ingenuity, however slight the advantage may be, eventually caused them over thousands to years to get ahead technologically of Africans, because they were genetically predisposed to developing it. The Africans, not having any harsh climate or adversities had no reason to develop new tools beyond what they already needed to survive in Africa. So they stayed as they are. It's why Africa is still the way it is.

No. Go 300 years before the age of colonization- say 1200 AD, and there were civilizations roughly as advanced as the most advanced European civilizations, and much more advanced than the backward European areas.

The reason has most to do with geography.

Look at Egypt and the local black africans. They had the same environment/geography yet one group was successful and the other one wasnt. How come?

I think that has a lot to do with it. Until Islam's inception, the Arabs were tribes constantly in quarrel. A few centuries later, they became the center of civilization, while the Europeans were busy killing each other.
