Texas Pastafarian Wins Battle At DMV, Becomes First In U.S. To Wear Colander In License Photo

The Huffington Post | By Nick Wing | 08/27/2013 9:52 am EDT
    Excerpts:

“Trips to the DMV don't typically elicit genuine smiles, but from beneath a metal pasta strainer, Texas Tech student and practicing Pastafarian Eddie Castillo flashed the "biggest, cheesiest" one he could muster last week.
Castillo told KLBK that the triumphant moment came after a lengthy fight with the state's Department of Public Safety that the unusual headgear was protected as part of his religious beliefs.

He worships the Flying Spaghetti Monster, a deity created by an atheist in 2005 in protest of the Kansas School Board's defense of teaching intelligent design.

According to its founding principles, ‘the only dogma allowed in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is the rejection of dogma.’ "

    ......

Imo: In a true Democracy, our Constitution clearly states the right to freedom of religion and if practicing Pastafarian Castillo isn’t allowed his religious beliefs, that is a clear transgression of the rights of citizens to practice in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

I think this is a case that should be brought to the attention of Justice Antonin Scalia and he would have some erratically genius decision on the whole matter of the Flying Spaghetti Monster Pasta Strainer Case, and I suggest that all political forum members wear a colander on our heads for one week as a display of solidarity with Eddie Castillo.

Meanwhile back in Texas, Let's hear the cheers for our newest religion!!

I don't really care what his drivers' license picture looks like, but he sounds like a real loser starved for attention.

Not to mention it's ironic how proudly he displays his bigotry and hatred of organized religion.

Man, I thought this was a typo, and that you meant Rastafarian, and I laughed...

Then, I clicked on the title, saw that it wasn't a typo, and found out why...

Then, I was just like "Oh..." :hmm:

I think it's even funnier with the colendar on, regardless if this is a point-to-be-made, or just a gag.

Bullcrap. If you honestly believe that then you are phenomenally ignorant - but something tells me you know your own statement is a load of crap too.

The creation and very existence of this "religion" is to make fun of real religions, and to ridicule relics and things which carry a great deal or religious value to devout followers of other religions. The symbol for "Pastafarianism" is nothing more than a parody of a Jesus fish. The spaghetti container is openly mocking yarmulkes. It is bigoted, intolerant, hateful and deliberately tried to offend.

This non-religion exists simply to ridicule real religions. I know it, you know it. Stop humiliating yourself by pretending otherwise.

PROVE....that the Flying Spaghetti Monster doesn't exist. :)

Okay, no secular thug'ocracy either. You'll just have to suffer living in a free country where people have different opinions and you don't get to violently mutilate them. Sorry. :)

I'm 100% fine with differing opinions. One can have a different opinion and not be stupid. This guy is just stupid.

Exactly, it's the equivalent of gays who march down Main Street in assless chaps, all it does is make an entire group look stupid and childish.

Who gets to decide what is "legitimately stupid"...and thus worthy of castration?

Your opinion on this awesome religion does not reduce the protection given to it by our great Constitution. Geez, show some tolerence.

No but you consider someone a moron and speak of castration because you dislike his religious choice. Did it ever occur to you that many of us see christianity just as ridiculous as this religion?

I couldn't care less about his "religious choice" and have made no comments on such.

Oh and if I EVER hear of Christian wanting to wear some ridiculous "christian" headgear in their DL photo I'd call them an idiot to.

When will you Edit/Rule 2 learn that not everyone judges people on their beliefs and or skin color but rather on their ACTIONS?

Actually this "religion" was created to keep actual stupid people in the Kansas State School Board for force feeding kids religious dog(*)(*)(*)(*) like creation theory in lieu of actual science. Successfully I might add. So it appears it is does indeed do a bit more than make an entire group look stupid. The fact that religious zealots get butthurt about it is icing on the cake.

Not for me. It's just hard to take atheists serious. And I apologize to all the ones who don't go around trying to stir things up or pretend to be superior. You don't deserve to be lumped in with these people.

No doubt you are fine with the thousands of street corner and college campus preachers peddling their crap all over the country though.

Why shouldn't I be? Atheists are free to do it too. But when they insult and demean people then turn around and start behaving like the religious crowd does then how are they expected to be taken seriously?

So you readily admit you're hypocrisy then? That was too easy. You're fine with religious folk acting in the same manner, but you can't stand atheists doing the same?

Why shouldn't Atheists be able to stand up and express their beliefs like any other? You think atheists are just going shut-up and let the religious dominate every conversation, political, social, educational or otherwise? Ain't. Going. To. (*)(*)(*)(*)ing. Happen.

Indeed. Much like Obama-worship, Global Warmism, Liberalism, Progressivism and Atheism.

Why should I? Even followers of this "religion" do not claim that the Flying Spaghetti Monster exists. So why should I disprove something that nobody believes in?

I do. As High Priest of my local Aztec Sunworshipper sect. Deny me and you may be my next sacrifice.

I have not made one single comment regarding the legality of this "religion," nor have I called for it to be banned, so what does the Constitution have to do with this? I have no problems with the legality of this "religion" and I have no problem with some imbecile that wants to wear a strainer on his head all day.

I'm just accurately calling that person out as being an intolerant, hateful bigot. He would fit in quite well in Germany in the late 30's. A lot of people there felt comfortable making fun of others' religious beliefs too.
