Some drugs are swift to act, and their effects- both good and bad- are swift to detect and we can make the easy correlation between cause and effect. However, some drugs are so much more dangerous. Why? Because we don't think of them as such. The effects are slow to manifest and when they do, they come in an array of symptoms and illnesses. Because of this, doctors will usually treat the illness without investigating the cause. Why? One could say Satanists have taken over American health, or their are more grounded, but somewhat equally disturbing reasons like US medical staffs are too overburdened to care or devote resources to the problem. There is also the fact that sugar makes a looooooooooooooooooooot of money. Just like tobacco, they have pretty good lobbies that make sure doctors don't specify and regulators turn a blind eye. But, increasingly, independent doctors for both have managed to scratch their way to the surface after undertaking great pains to show us that, indeed, these harmless products that we have nothing to worry about are indeed slow poisons that progressively wreak havoc on the body. After thes doctors have spent all that effort and time to deliver it, the majority responce is a shrug of the shoulders. I'm not religious, but if there is one lesson I have learned from it, it's that it seems pretty freaking stupid to martyr yourself for the public. My question: Why? Why willingly compromise your health like this?
Too much of anything is bad - the label "drug" doesn't phase me. Sugar is clearly addictive to some degree, and it causes a lot of societal problems. Our carefree attitude toward it is not merited given our stance on other drugs.
