Do the recent elections paint a picture of things to come, or are these just coincidence? The main moderate in the GOP won in a landslide victory....and was supported by not only the financial arm of the GOP, but by many independents, minorities, women, and even democrats. The Tea Party contingent was handily defeated, even allowing a democrat/Progressive to take over the largest city in the country. Is this the beginning of the end for the extremists in the Republican Party?
I'm just glad to see an actual real moderate. Politicians these days seem to be tripping over themselves to move farther and farther into their respective political corners.
A Moderate Republican winning in NJ is like a Moderate Democrat winning in Alabama. It's about as Conservative as NJ can get, so that's a "win" for the Tea Party. The fact that he won in a landslide victory should tell you something... Two terms for a Republican in NJ? One of the most Liberal states in the Union? The Tea Party, although quiet, is still alive and well. Would I want him as a governor in VA? Well, I'd accept him over McAuliffe, but certainly not a true Conservative.
You have to look at facts and numbers (things the average Tea Partyer or ditto-head say have a "liberal bias" )--- The Government Shutdown, done at the behest (or even pandering to) the Tea Party PLUNGED the GOP's approval rating down to a record low of 28%. Ted Cruz, ersatz "leader" of the Shutdown and beloved by the Tea Party...has only a 31% approval outside of Republicans. Gallup also has public support for the Tea Party at 22%....some say it's even lower. Tea Party candidates like Richard Mourdock, Christine O'Donnell, Sharron Angle, and Ken Buck cost the Republicans EASY victories in the US Senate. Cuccinelli was hand-picked and endorsed by the VA Tea Party, he in turn repaid them by "staying true" to Far Right ideological ideas....and he lost. Chris Christie eschews the Tea Party's "no compromises with Democrats" rigidity....and won. Dean Young in Alabama, again hand-picked and endorsed by the Tea Party....couldn't win a REPUBLCIAN primary in Red-Red-Red State Alabama. And even the Koch Brothers, who basically built the Tea Party, distanced themselves from the Shutdown Republicans as public sentiment turned against them. Now....if you were a Big Money GOP Donor...would YOU back a Tea Party candidate??? - - - Updated - - - Why EXACTLY...is it "quiet"???
The GOP has repeatedly been administered the lesson. When Christie lashed out last January at congressional republicans (when their approval level was way up at 23%) he allied himself with the pragmatic American electorate, burnished his credentials as a candid, outspoken leader, and immunized himself against the malodorous taint of his party's diehard dogmatic identity. The strategists in Turdblossom Rove's War Against the TPs undoubtedly are taking notes with 2016 in mind. The biggest loser on Tuesday might have been a jamoke that wasn't even on a ballot: "Carnival" Cruz.
Because they're working on local elections, such as delegates and the like to change things from the bottom up. Delegate elections aren't national news worthy.
Christie doesn't represent a move toward sanity - he's a big government Republican. Amerika is in debt to the tune of 1000% of GDP, and the Dem Party is chanting for more, and people like Christie want to get in on the wave. Amerika is doomed, might as well feather their own nest while they can. It's pragmatic - who cares about the future?? Get what ya can, while ya can... screw posterity, and screw Amerika. If I didn't have a soul or a conscience, I'd do the same thing... but alas, I care about future generations, and could never bring myself to sell out like that.
Why....do you hate America? We are far more sable financially than any other nation on this Earth....we have managed to create and spread through example an equality in humankind never seen before, this system of government has spread threads into almost all others that improves the lives of billions, and this financial powerhouse allows for a military threat the holds at bay the very worst of civilization. If this country did not exist......we would all have dealt with an end long ago.
So you see no indication from these elections, that a moderation of the GOP is good idea going forward to 2014/2016?
NO!!! Not only NO, but HELL NO!!! I'm totally for states rights and nullification activism. I was all for the Pork Busters before I was for the TEA Party. I'm all for a balanced budget AMENDMENT. I want the gubmints hands OUT of my pockets, and its nose OUT of my ass. If it's not in the Constitution as amended then the federal gubmint's got no business doing it.
Why exactly is Christie a moderate again? He is pretty solidly conservative. The reason he seems to be called a moderate, is that in a moment of disaster, he felt actually governing and addressing the issues his state faced, was a more pressing issue than maintaining partisan purity!! It seems anyone who doesn't treat Obama like the lowly upstart the extreme right imagines him to be, is cast as not a "true conservative." When in reality they aren't "true conservatives." They don't want to conserve anything. They are radical, reactionary, and regressive. Not conservative at all.
I hate Amerika b/c of what she has become. America was founded as a republic, in which the rule of law restricted the government. Now, Amerika is transitioning thru "democracy", and democracy is always shortlived, and as James Madison said, "violent in its death". Only an ignorant fool would want to live in a democracy. Each generation of Americans up until the 1930's were blessed with the inheritance of freedom, but now we are grinding to a relatively quick death. We are descending down the same path that every other democracy in history did. History warned, our founding fathers warned us, and yet Amerikans still fell for the headfake. We deserve to go bankrupt, which we are; and we deserve to lose our freedom, which we are.
No I didn't. I spell America in reference to the country that existed before "the living constitution." I spell Amerika in reference to the country that now exists, and is dying. The "democratic" Amerika. Democracy is a fundamentally unstable form of government - which is why America's Founding Fathers took great pains to prevent it from taking root. They gave us a republic which limited the power of government. Now, in Amerika circa 2013 - government power is without limit. When a government is not constrained by the rule of law, it will swallow the freedoms and wealth of the people. Sure as the sun will rise today - and that is what is happening in Amerika. Slowly, with every piece of legislation that is passed by the increasingly centralized and empowered FedGov, our freedoms are being swallowed, our rights destroyed, and our wealth stolen. Doesn't matter if you belong to the Democratic Party, or the Republican Party - we all have an interest in freedom. Yet all Democrats, and most Republicans haven't the first clue about what freedom looks like. Freedom most assuredly has nothing whatsoever to do with democracy. Freedom can only exist within republican government.
There's an obvious flaw in using this as a marker - the variable is determinant. Christie is one of the most well known and popular moderates. Is he somehow representative of all moderates? Obviously not. That'd be like taking the most resounding tea party success and asking if that one man's success is an indicator of the whole tea party's future. Obviously not.
lol, we'll see. The widespread Liberal lie is that moderatism is spreading. Conservatives and Independents are remaining and becoming more Conservative. This is why you have a growing interest in the Libertarian Party. Establishment Republicans are moderates and have been for at least a decade now. If anything, after this Obamacare debacle, you should worry about Democrats becoming more Conservative. That would be the only increase in moderatism occurring.
You're describing what America used to be. - - - Updated - - - lol, so that they lose their base? Good plan. It's a good thing Liberals are looking out for the Conservative's best interests. Thanks CAP!
Explain the grand qualities that make Christie conservative? Has he lowered real estate taxes? Sales taxes? Income taxes? Has he decreased the size of government? Has he fought against Obamacare? About the only thing "conservative" he's done, is fight back the Teacher's Unions.
A minority base of extremist morons isn't much of a base.....apparently enough to keep the Tea Party going though.
