How is it that you suppose you being armed with a safely concealed weapon puts others at risk? Are you concerned your weapon is going to jump out of it's holster and start shooting people on it's own? Are you concerned it's going to spontaneously explode? Or do you not trust yourself, and think that you might at some point, realizing that you have a weapon on hand, start using it on others for no justifiable purpose?

A properly stored weapon poses no risk to others unless the person in possession of it is an inherent risk, with or without a weapon.

Your chances of being shot by MY firearm, no matter how close to my vicinity you are, are precisely 0, unless you yourself are actively presenting a threat of death or grave physical injury to myself or someone else. Were we to meet, say at a bus stop, and strike up a conversation about the weather or the stock market, whether or not I'm armed, you are in no danger. My gun is not going to take it upon itself to shoot you.

 

I have no idea what my chances are of anyone shooting me. I keep hearing all kinds of stories of all kinds of people shooting each other. It's an epidemic. Even the former Vice President accidentally shot somebody. I just don't like being around other people with guns unless I'm at the range... and I'm willing to give that up if necessary.

 

Actually, it's not. The murder rate has been falling for 30 years, and is not at, or very close to, an all time low in the history of the country.

Your argument against us having guns looses force when you claim to own and that you are safe. All your statistical evidence is now in your lap. Your family has a really good chance of being shot by your gun.

I know that a determined force is only stopped by a prepared countering force. If you were a gun-totin' terrorist/criminal searching for a soft target/victim would you choose a place where citizens would be a totin' too?

People that take precautions do so to avoid an untoward circumstance or failing that, be prepared for it.

 

In Orlando a few years ago, there was a slew of home invasions happening. The group of people doing it raped women, and murdered people. One day, they decided to hit my friends house. He pulled a rifle on them, and they skedaddled. No shots were fired, and a few days later the gang was arrested.

Whether you believe it or not, my friend remains alive and his wife unraped because he had a gun handy. As I love both of them very much, I am very happy about that.

 

Wouldn't it be nice if that kind of story mattered to the anti-gunners, but it doesn't. It doesn't really matter if arming citizens makes a difference, like Interpol and the NRA agree upon. What matters to them....well them. I for one am glad your friend is OK and I am glad for an armed citizenry.

Every gun advocate has an anecdotal story. The great thing about anecdotes is that you never lose an argument.

I've heard them all: hostage-taking, daily rapes (on this very site), getting shot at every day, gang rapes, and of course break-ins.

Somehow break-ins into a single woman's house are always attempted rapes. I wish I had the same psychic powers as the alleged victims who somehow know that they were going to be raped.

The USA is not a war zone. Where there is smoke there is fire, and people who tend to get shot at and raped on a regular basis might want to either consider moving or stop operating their meth lab.

 

No, give my friend a cigar, for being prepared and trained. A firearm is like a fire extinguisher. Tools that you hope you never need to use, but are really glad to have if you do.

I don't believe that the average American is subject to rape and murder every day. If that were true, I wouldn't be arguing for gun control, I'd be arguing for martial law.
