I know that Internet blogger and radio host Reality Check has been busy with real life, and it’s great to see that he has been able to carve out enough time to get a few articles posted covering his testing of a sample birth certificate on a Xerox WorkCentre.

 

Arduini? Outed by you? Hardly. He was posting on Phil Berg's Obamacrimes under his own name as far back as September 2008. As for "Jimbot," he has still never been outed at all. The rather hilarious birther belief that he is Jim Johnson is simply wrong. Davidson, Bryan and Collins also "outed" themselves and so were never "outed" at all. And if you want to hold up RC and NBC as somehow representative of anonymous Obots, certainly you know that it is no great difficulty to assemble an extremely long list of anonymous birthers. So as to what you imagine you would be demonstrating, I have no idea.

I think it's safe to say that the jury is still out on the latter. But it hardly matters whether any particular birther is personally racist. Birthism is still a racist lie. Certainly the lies have been credulously swallowed by some small number of non-racists whose actual deficits have more to do with intelligence than with prejudice. That changes nothing.

Default My family is full of birthers. Help?



My mother and I were talking politics the other day and the subject of Obama's birth inevitably came up. She basically still thinks that he wasn't born here, and that his birth certificate was doctored to deceive the American public. I tried to tell her that no other president has had their birth questioned this much and that's it's a deep seated form of racism, but she wasn't buying it.

This kind of mental disease also effects the rest of my family. My first uncle believes he's a Kenyan communist dictator, my grandma believes he will pass a law that will destroy term limits and make himself dictator, etc. The only person with any sense is my other uncle. He doesn't like Obama, but at least he doesn't believe all the Glenn Beck conspiracy BS the rest of my family seems to believe.

How do I talk sense into my family? Most of us distrust the two-party system so there's that and none of us like Obama, but the birther crap is still running strong. Is there anything I can show them to prove them wrong without having to call them racist?

In terms of Scott's repeated insistence that somehow this issue is "finally getting traction" I took a look at the google trends over the last several years. The volume of on-line searches are a good indicator of exactly which issues are getting traction and which are not.

Here for example are the searches for "Obama birth certificate." It shows big bumps when Obama was first elected, and again when Obama released his long form... and since then it has all but died out completely. Even the tiny bumps at the time of the CCP's press conferences petered out quickly. Since April of 2013, the issue has flat-lined completely.
