    Just curious.

    Empty stomach - four+ beers
Dinner - an ungodly number of beers (as in, I do not get drunk off of beer and a meal) or two+ bottles of wine.

I noticed that stupid things occurred when hard liquor was involved. Two thirds of a liter of cheap rum (in an hour) and god knows how many more drinks in the following two hours can lead to some interesting/embarrassing events. So, I no longer consume hard liquor (a new rule for myself successfully adhered to since August).

As does two bottles of wine and six beers in an hour (no more large volumes of wine for me) when you ponder of the memory of riding the town's moped.

A rule to live by, moderation is key. Beer is great, there is the buzz, but not the black out drunk side effects of drinks with higher alcohol content.

You can get pretty stupid on beer, don't kid yourself.
Just remember, most people who claim they are fine after a couple of bottles of wine, have never actually seen themselves after a couple of bottles of wine.
I knew a guy who called drinking or smoking pot, "gettin' stupid" which is about the best description I have ever heard.
Oh, I still like gettin' stupid every now and then, but I try to be within walking distance of where I am going to sleep when I do.
Not always possible, but ALWAYS advisable...

I can handle 3 or 4 alcohols but 5 alcohols is too many. I'm a really big guy. Lots of height and lots of body mass so it takes lots of alcohol to affect me.

I never drink much unless home with my wife, at the most I can handle perhaps half a fifth of good bourbon, or a bottle of wine. In youth however...let's just say things were a bit less limited. Beer however, barely effects me.

I actually get sick if I don't eat anything so empty stomach is probably one hard drink or a couple of beers at most.

If I eat beforehand though I will usually have up to 6-8 of any combination of bloody marys, long island ice teas, screw drivers, mamosas, or just straight up vodka on the rocks (only Grey Goose and above quality though) or whiskey on the rocks. Of course it depends on which ones because mamosas and screwdrivers are a alot less alchohol than a long island ice tea but that is the usual. I never drink to the point I will black out, I have only done that twice in my life and frankly its just not worth it. :alcoholic:

Well, when I attempted to commit suicide by alcohol ingestion when I was 17, I downed 2 pints of Everclear in 5 minutes and ended up with a 0.5 BAC......I hallucinated immediately, blacked out after about 5 minutes and got into a fist fight with my dad the next morning after vomiting and urinating all over myself. Failed suicide attempt and three days in county jail with the worst alcohol poisoning I ever had. :roflol:

I'm tolerant of alcohol but I still believe it's a sin for it to get married.

I tolerate it, it tolerates me. We have reached a delicate equilibrium.

Quite generally I'm fine as long as I'm not having girl's drinks (a surefire discount trip to a night with the toilet), and not mixing. I only really puked twice from drinking - my first 21 drinking night in San Diego (I was out at sea for my 21st), and this New Year's. This New Year's wasn't bad, though. I had mixed a lot of drinks, had a few heavy beers, a good amount of whiskey, it was the (albeit great) mead, brandy, and drinking game drinks that threw me off. Fortunately, when I hurled I just got up and casually walked out to the porch and puked - didn't make a mess anywhere, and then proceeded to just sleep.

I'll never forget my first legal night out drinking though. I was meeting a buddy at a bar and he called and said he wouldn't be coming, because his girlfriend had some issues going on that he needed to be with her for. I respected that, but I was already at the bar with a Sam Adams in my hand, so I thought I'd have a couple drinks. After that the bartender asked me if he could get me another beer, and I said I'd like to try a Scotch. He asked what kind, and I told him I didn't know because I never had Scotch. His jaw dropped and he said, "you've never had Scotch!?!? ... Would you like to try some?" Of course, I said yeah, and he basically poured me a half shot of a dozen different kinds of scotch. These were all top shelf, too - the youngest one I remember was 10yr Laphroig. So after all this tasting I bought another shot ($10), and another Sam Adams, and when I stood up I woke up in the Naval Hospital. But, I made it back to work before 6am! :D

But yeah, generally speaking, I have a really high tolerance for alcohol. I mostly drink beer, whiskey, and rum, and I like the latter two straight on ice. I can easily outdrink most guys I know, but part of that may be that a lot of the guys I know are ADHD drunks - I really don't get how people get energetic when they're drunk, but they do. When I'm drunk I generally get more relaxed and enjoy discussions more. Seriously, I've had deep philosophical and political discussions when I was stupid on whiskey.

Well, yeah. With enough beer and enough time. That is all I am saying.

After a couple bottles of wine I begin getting pretty tipsy.

Believe me, you start acting stupid a long time before you feel tipsy.

I usually don't even get buzzed when I drink, but that's because I can't stand the taste of alcohol. Just a few shots of straight liquor and I just can't bring myself to drink anymore. I haven't had a mixed drink that could mask the taste very well. I haven't really tested my limits all that much so I'm not sure how much I could hold.

It would be cool if there were some sort of scale to measure ones tolerance, some sort of qualitative measurement.

Everyone has a tipping point though, it just depends on the concentration of the alcohol, how quickly it's consumed, and in relation to other factors.

Myself, I can drink ridiculous amounts of beer before I vomit or hit blackout stage. Hard liquor is an entirely different matter, so I try to avoid it. When I look back at the stupid things I've said or done while intoxicated, hard liquor was always involved... particularly Tequila and Yagermiester.

The cool think with beer is that if I get sick, it is from drinking too much volume, not from being drunk.

Well yeah, but there is a difference in practical levels aside from what the Almighty State decides as a means to make money.

Example, buzzed I am fully capable of playing music.
    Drunk, no so.

I'm 6'2, 190lbs, long history of heavy drinking. The answer: takes more than I can afford as a broke student to get a knocked out effect with good stuff. Which is why I've been mixing proper (*)(*)(*)(*) quality absinthe with sports drinks -- seems to be the best effect/cost option.

For me it depends on a state of mind for the most part. There have been times when I would sit on the couch and drink a 12 pack in an afternoon and be barely buzzed. That usually happens when Im bored and im trying to get drunk because Im bored and it doesn't work. There was a time when I could drink a fifth of whiskey in a night and the same thing would happen. Other times I've had 4 beers and tripped over the couch on the way to the bathroom.

I used to think it was the setting, like me being at home but it's not. Ive had days when I went out to the bar with friends and the same thing would happen. 2 or 3 crown and cokes and Im seeing double, stumble to the taxi and wake up in my bed somehow wanting to put a bullet in my head. Other times Ive been to the bar and left with a $100 bar tab and came home and sat up watching tv drinking another 6 pack before finally deciding I would goto bed because I ran out of things to do and beer.

I think it boils down to if im trying to get drunk on purpose in my mind or if Im just out casually with friends. The latter seems to be what gets me hammered. Which is unfortunate since when I want to be drunk I cant. Like when I get dragged to the movies to see something stupid like twilight and I bring a fifth a crown royal to the theatre to spike the big gulp cup and I leave with an empty bottle of whiskey, no buzz, and the loss of 2 hours of my life watching that piece of (*)(*)(*)(*) completely sober in spite of my best efforts.

I don't drink, but it's entertaining watching people that do (not the violent, throw up your lunch type, though).
    Enjoy!

Odd isn't it? Makes me rethink my earlier post. There is definitely some sort of variable at play which seems to overshadow the volume/concentration of alcohol and how quickly it's consumed. I can totally relate to what you're talking about. There have been times when I smashed a boat load of booze and barely phased... other times I've consumed just a few beers and had to concentrate and focus just to maintain normal composure.
