You've all seen the news and the constant political punching bag Elon Musk is. Why does his success make some people so remarkably angry? Let's keep it real.. the man is brilliant, and Tesla's Model S is taking home all the awards for Best Car in America.
I don't begrudge musk his success, but he's definitely been the beneficiary of more pure luck than most. More power to him if it holds out for Spacex and Tesla. Oh wait, isn't he in the 1%? Well that must make him equivalent to the Koch Bros, right? No? why not? Rhetorical, I know why.
The Tesla car if little more than a very rich mans golf cart. It is NOT a real car, you cant drive it cross country.
of course it is a real car.. it has four wheels, brakes, wipers, lights, etc. Provided the Republicans stop blocking it, installation of charging stations across the country will continue.
No one blocking it if there is a profitable market for those charging stations companies would be putting them every where what republicans are blacking is tax payer money going towards building and subsidizing them
Its not the car the people are opposite about it is the way the shyster got the money to build the car he did so off the tax payers back then reneged on the promise he would build it in America which he didn't
I don't hate on Tesla, heck, I bought TSLA stock a year ago. I don't agree with the government subsidies for his (or any) business, I think Tesla should compete and thrive/fail on its own merits, but I really do want him to succeed, and not just because I am monetarily invested in his success, but because I think he is a visionary. The Tesla, as another poster pointed out, is just a short range vehicle, and charging stations won't change that because it takes a lot of time to charge. No one who is traveling across the country wants to drive 100 miles and sit and charge for hours before they can drive another 100 miles. Really, the electric car model that Shai Agassi (Better Place) came up with is a much better model. In his model, you own the car, but not the batteries. The batteries are quickly swappable (in about the same time it takes to fuel a conventional car). You 'subscribe' to battery power much like you subscribe to cell phone service, or you pay as you go. You, of course, can still charge the battery in your car yourself. The cars are inexpensive, and the basic infrastructure to support it is already in place (power grid).
and how about the American jobs he promised? so we gave him a loan so he can build a car in the Netherlands and have those jobs go there why didn't the Netherlands government give him that loan they are the ones benefitting from it not Americans
Meanwhile, subsidies to oil companies that don't need it, using our military to protect transportation of their goods on taxpayer dime doesn't bother you, but some guy who goes against the oil leech status quo is a bad guy? Please, explain your logic.
How do you own stock and haven't researched the vehicle? The range is about 250 miles, and the super-charging stations charge 50% of the battery in 30 minutes.
That wasn't the case when I bought the stock. Regardless, 50% of battery doesn't get you 50% of range, but if it did, it would be 125 miles. So, drive 125 miles.. sit and wait 30 minutes. I'd still classify that as 'not ready for prime time' other than as a $70,000 commuter vehicle. Still, I support Tesla, and see them as a long-term hold from an investment point of view, particularly while the taxpayers are propping them up. As to the thread topic; no hate from me for Tesla, I wish them every success.
Oil companies don't get cash subsidies, they take advantage of a tax code that was written by a big, intrusive gov't that you love. Tesla gets cash. Also, research emissions credits. Check out the other way that Tesla, with the help of state gov'ts, screw everyone else that are trying to buy normal priced cars made by every other manufacturer
I suspect certain political and corporate interests (probably working in-concert) do not wish for Tesla to succeed. (Jerks.) I hope there is eventually a court case which manages to slap-down whatever bad actors are out there. And where are those libertarians, Right-wing free market proponents now?
BTW for those that dont know, at least 4 Teslas have burned down in the last 5 months or so. I suggest Tesla buy the old Buick name for their engines-------------------Fireball and make it one of their models!!!
Just for the record, the banning of tesla from selling directly to the public has nothing to do with libertarianism, nor free-market capatilism. It is crony capitalism.
What I dont 7nderstand is why so many people are commuting accross the country all the time. Last time I drove over 100 miles at once was likely when I left the Army and came back home from Kansas. Honestly I dont see why people hold up cross country travel as a huge issue. I dont hear people (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)ing about cars because they cant go up rocky trails.
It doesn't really cost any extra to have a military outfit pull a security detail for something like that. Service members get paid regardless of whether they are on liberty or assigned to their units.
Mobilizing military costs more than stationary at home. It costs A LOT of money to get ships and aircraft mobile patrolling and securing an area, especially when if oil wasn't being transported there, we'd really have no advantage from patrolling those waters.
There isn't really any hate toward Tesla from the right btw. I think the leftists are having a hard time understanding why it doesn't bother us by default I would buy one as a 4th or 5th car maybe, but for $70+K there are much better options out there (BWM 550i being my choice) I'm not thrilled that Tesla got a lot of help with our tax dollars but at this point it's done and I can only hope that they succeed and become a profitable auto company. In fact, I hope that they become so successful that their C-Level executives become filthy rich Can you guys imagine the lefties then?
Ships and aircraft are there for the sailors and airmen/pilots to use. They don't provide much of anything while docked or sitting on the tarmac. Pilots are always in need of more flight hours. Mobilizing is good in practice as well. You can't train enough when your job description is being the tip of the sword for the most powerful country the world has ever seen.
Uh... who is hating on him? Frankly he's a brilliant guy and a remarkable entrepreneur. There is much to admire about the man. I'n not a fan of taxpayer subsides to his company but if the government is foolish enough to wave the money under his nose, I can see from his perspective there is no reason to not take it. If I was angry it would be directed at the government since they took my money to give to him.
