http://libertycrier.com/high-school-studen-disarms-gunman-gets-suspended/ Yes it's from two months ago but i still think it is relevant to the current out of control state of zero tolerance systems in our schools. Too many teachers feel a slight entitlement complex about their own positions at times, and this can possibly manifest into controlling policies such as this where a student could not defend themselves against possible serious bodily harm or even death as it seems to be the case more and more.....
From a similar article. Explains why he was suspended, even if it was a bit over the top. http://www.jrn.com/fox4now/news/195176031.html So if one is involved in a situation like that, and then lies about it (no matter the reason), expect some sort of consequence.
Its too bad the gunman didnt point his weapon at the moron principal instead of another student. Then the public educator would have begged for someone to do something.
It wasn't that the kid did something, it's that he lied afterwards when the Admins were trying to get the full story.
Oh right. The idiot lib public teachers cant stop students from shooting each other but they have zero tolerance for students who dont tell them the truth? You can't be serious.
THis has nothign to do with teachers. It has to do with principals who are influenced more by local politics. Something is suspicious about the whole story. Where was the bus driver? Why wasn't the attempted shooter arrested and charged at the time of the attack? This story (linked frm the OP) says the shooter was arrested the next day with his gun. What did the heroic boy do with the gun after taking it? Why didn't the bus driver have the gun? I'm not sure what happened, but the stories are strange. http://www.abc-7.com/story/21426291/deputies-teen-pointed-gun-at-fellow-student-on-school-bus
....That makes no sense compared to what I said. I doubt that teachers have discovered the ability to read minds yet, so how do they stop someone they don't know has a gun? The kid was a hero and helped. If he hadn't lied about it, we wouldn't be having this conversation. But I guess, once again, it's somehow the fault of the eeeeevvviiilll Libs.
The story is suspicious. This version says that the suspended boy took the gun from attempted shooter. Shooter was arrested the next day WITH the gun. WHy did the boy give the gun back? http://www.abc-7.com/story/21426291/deputies-teen-pointed-gun-at-fellow-student-on-school-bus
Such stupidity of suspending the student who did the teachers job by saving another student could only come from libs. Again, students are trying to kill other students that the public teachers are responsible for right under the public teachers noses. They look foolish and take out their embarrassment against the student who made them look bad.
This is kind of like those Europeans who get angry when people defend themselves instead of meekly getting robbed and/or attacked, some people are fundamentally offended by agency. Edit: Detention for not snitching would be more appropriate than suspension.
Or, they suspended him for lying. Like the story says. The teachers do what they can, when they can, but last I remembered, high school buses don't have a supervisor, just a driver. So keep blaming those who had nothing to do with it, and who have said that he was a hero and his suspension should be stricken from his record.
I've never been a fan or the Florida board of education's idea of discipline. Spanking by paddle is still a punishment. How 1800's
Schools are still as ban happy as ever though, over punishment is handed out like cand y now for things that would not be a big deal 10 years ago. The p.c crowd has had it's way with our education for far too long now....
I hope it's kinda like when a police officer is involved in a shooting, they give then a few days off, helps them and other students around them to heal from the horrifying event and lets the situation cool down if others wanted to take revenge on the heroes...
the student says he feared for his life, they should of just told him to take a few days off, let things cool down, and the school should of let the COPS handle the rest the school questioned him for 4 hours... that is crazy, how long did it take the school to call the police... did they ever call the police? .
Since that incident the teachers should be riding on every bus to protect the students. Now they cant say they didnt know what could happen. If they have zero tolerance for a brave student they should practice it for themselves first.
ok, it's garbage, but as a teacher... in florida.... I have no say in zero tolerance. in fact, I have zero say in any discipline other than calling mom at home. I have to report the facts of what happened... and the admin adminstors punishments. Even they have their hands tied in zero tolerance laws like "fighting on the bus" These are laws passed down to schools to be enforced by threat of our teaching licenses if we don't.
