Further browsing revealed the firewall barred an entire slew of political sites including the state's GOP website. The state Democrat party's website, however, remained conspicuously accessible. Lampart found that banned websites included: Townhall.com, TheBlaze.com, Christianity.com, CTGOP.com, ProtectMarriage.com, NRLC.org (National Right to Life), Vatican.va, and CTMirror.org.....snip~ http://townhall.com/postrelease.html?prx_t=XZEBAUKIBAT+8DA&prx_q=2922 So what do you think about this? Should schools be banning Conservative sites and only allowing access to the MS media and Left leaning Sites? What say ye?
Since our educational system seems to be dumbing down the children anyhow, what better way than to give them half of the story to access in order to keep their critical thinking skills low? Seems to be right on par for how things go in our nation. It's no longer ok to disagree, to look for alternative perspectives, or think or talk out loud about both sides of an issue. Today you either agree and go along or find yourself on some terror watch list because you Googled something just to understand what it is or why it was mentioned somewhere. The school system will blame some IT firewall application they weren't aware was acting in such a way. They'll open it up a bit to make everyone happy with "oops" as the excuse. Wash, rinse, lie, repeat.
I've been banned from ultra right wing beliefnet and a few other far right sites. Typical of ultra fascists to do this without any repercussions to them.
I'm not sure why they blocked the GOP web sites.....but.......I know schools get in trouble by allowing religious content, if they don't allow all viewpoints. Are Christianity.com, and Vatican.va "political" web sites? The article was light on specifics about why the school district blocked the sites. Furthermore, we don't know the teacher's bias, and between Townhall, the NRA, and righty media in general...it's no wonder the word "block" was replaced by "banned" Honestly, any kid is going to have full access to all of that at home, or on their cell phones. So nobody is being deprived of that information on those righty sites. But a "ban" sounds terrible and rallies the base. Look!....here is an example of that kind of rallying the base......complete with the Hitler card being played
I too have been banned from websites because of my right wing beliefs. I watched as many other right wingers were slowly picked off from this one particular site and banned one by one. Then it came my turn. Two week suspensions at first then all out BANNED after that.
Mornin' Margot. Just those they list with the OP. Although I haven't looked to see if any other sources had up the aame article.
Heya SMW. Oh.....the Progressive Elitism or the Blue Collar Democrat. As we can see which one is more about the middle class, Right?
Heya Goldwater. Long long time since we last ran across one another. Hope All is well with you. I can see blocking the Religious Sites if that's a schools policy......and while they can access these at home, this shouldn't be done while at school and working on such a Project. Especially not when they only Allow those in favor of Gun Control and their excuses and rationals to be presented.
but it's a conservative's nature not to look for alternatives or solutions and only remain with the status quo...progressives are the people who drive society forward, if not for progressives we would be still burning witches....
Well well well, if it isn't old MMC knocking around here again. And yeah, it's a little distrubing to me about the blocking sites, and that's made worse, on purpose, by a lack of specifics from the article. That's the flavor of the week for the GOP anyway. Take care, hope to see you around.
Obviously not... it prohibits hearing other points of view and that is very important to developing minds... hey MMC. Good to see yah.
Mornin' Bodi. Good seeing you to. Hope things have been well for you. I agree with you there.....especially if they were touching up notes for the Debate on the issue presented in the OP.
Forum right wingers have no trouble with calling President Obama a "fascist" and have posted numerous political cartoons equating him with Hitler, Mussolini, and Stalin. - - - Updated - - - when it comes to right wing delusionals, it's definitely TROLLS
could not see the link, did the school block the sites or did a 3rd party block it, and what was the reason given, like a Social Networking site, ect... I block sites in our household via opendns, it tells us the reason a site was blocked, hate site, xxx site, ect.... .
The article simply replaces the word blocked and uses the more incendiary word banned. Then leaves exactly who did what up to the imaginative and prediatory minds of the GOP media. So you get what we have on this thread
