Obama Predicts Democrats Will Hold The Senate In November

The Huffington Post | By Sam Levine | Posted: 09/29/2014 11:59 am EDT
    Excerpts:

"President Barack Obama said that he thinks Democrats can maintain control of the Senate and defended his administration's record during an interview with "60 Minutes" on Sunday evening.

When asked by "60 Minutes" host Steve Kroft what issues he would focus on leading up to the midterm elections, Obama said that he would focus on the economic recovery that he has overseen since he took office in 2008.

"I can put my record against any leader around the world in terms of digging ourselves out of a terrible, almost unprecedented financial crisis," Obama said.

Despite the overall health of the economy, Obama admitted that most Americans aren't feeling the effects of recovery.

"They don't feel it. And the reason they don't feel it is because incomes and wages are not going up," he said. Obama then ticked off a number of initiatives, including raising the minimum wage and making sure that men and women are paid equally that would improve the lives of Americans.

Even though several forecasts show that Republicans are likely to take control of the Senate in November, Obama predicted that Democrats will retain the majority in the upper chamber. The president said he hopes to convince voters that the economy is getting better.

"Hopefully, they get a chance to hear the argument," Obama said. "Because all I'm doing is presenting the facts."

IMO: Our much maligned President Obama has a cheerful outlook toward the November elections, and I agree that the Democrats will win in a tsunami vote that will shake the republican party out of it's resolutely treasonous agenda concerning continuing the recession, disregarding the plight of American citizens, while a black Democrat is in the White House.

That is if any are left in Congress by December 2016......

Lol, typical obama talking out of both sides of his arse.

Of course, the low-info voters won't make it to the second sentence as the first will cause them to go into giddy rapture and drool all over themselves.

So, in essence, his record rocks on recovering the economy, so long as you don't actually consider the fact that it hasn't really recovered much, if any.

The truth is, it has recovered a little, but not because OF obama, but rather DESPITE obama.

Well, what would you expect him to say? Of course he's going to defend his record. there's not really anything which he can defend by sticking to the facts, but ....

President Obama presenting facts? That'll be the day. But, don't forget, if you like your health insurance, you can keep your health insurance, period.

Are you asking me if media has an effect on elections? That would be too stupid a question to bother answering. I believe the notion that the citizens are all united in their partisanship is also a bit silly. Obama has soured in the mouths of independents, no matter how much you rahrah for the cause.

Blame the lack of facts on his intelligence committee. Can't blame Obama.

    I mean.... for anything.

    .....

1a) The truth!! Obama realizes that he has kept America from going over the cliff to a deep depression due to republican deficits, 2 Bush Wars, and 2006 Wall Street meltdown, despite republican obstruction, and financial bankruptcy. Obama's careful plans kept us out of another war despite all the Congress war-mongers and gradually planned for an exit from Iraq and Afghanistan at the right time when both countries have stabilized from the Bush War..

1b) People are not feeling any recovery due to the constant obstruction from 2008 thru today, of the republicans in Congress. They refused every Obama constructive plan to bring out a faster recovery from the recession, such as: raising the minimum wage, a larger stimulus to create jobs, a government funded recovery plan for more jobs and faster recovery, waited patiently while the republicans shut down the government for 16 days and costing taxpayers trillions of dollars all in a republican induced 'austerity era' while they continued their 'hostage taking' legislation and working 1 1/2 days per week while collecting full pay - (if we tried that we would be fired in a nano-second) Our long lasting depression was directly caused by the republicans in Congress, Obama's plan for a larger stimulus would have taken us out of the Bush Depression quickly. The immigration bill from the Senate sat in the House for over five months while the Senate waited for it to be passed, then the republicans left in their limos for home for summer vacations saying it was too late to sign it. This is disgusting behavior from republicans who had no qualms about causing undue anxiety among the American people. They should be impeached for the great harm they have done to the American citizens.

    2) As President Obama stated: "Hopefully, they get a chance to hear the argument," Obama said. "Because all I'm doing is presenting the facts."

    3) That sounds a lot more like the republican party to me...the 'giddy rapture' over 1%ers and "drooling all over themselves" is uncomfortably closer to the republican party's obsession with fading fast beauty queen grifter Sarah Palin.

4a) Wrong: the American people are definitely aware what has been going on in Congress from 2009 to today! see 1a) and 1b)

4b) Wrong again: The economy has recovered a little in spite of republican obstruction to any plan from a black president they hate and the little accomplishments derived is because of the cautious contemplation of an extremely thorough President Obama DESPITE republican obstruction of everything Obama wanted done. Never before in White House history has anyone been so maligned (and made him better) as President Obama who had to not only fight racial hatred by republicans in Congress, filibustering, shutting down the government, Rove inspired smears, 'manufactured scandals,' and keeping America on a steady course through the years.

We can all say a hearty "Thank You, President Obama, for all you have done; not many other American leaders would have worked so hard and done so much for America when we needed you most."

It will all come out in the November elections, again in 2016, and I am looking forward to a new more positive approach to legislating in Congress. One that is going to bring back the American people into the focus of Congress. We deserve it.

Obama's been wrong so very many times that I consider it a plus that he thinks the Dems will hold the Senate.

He didn't look "cheerful". What else was he supposed to say---we're going to get our butts kicked? Now THAT would be refreshingly honest for a change. If Dems do lose, will he take the blame??

Lol...regurgitating the left talking points...blame GOP...yadda, yadda, yadda.

Presenting the facts? Lol...like "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor"???

No one on "your team" ever questions Harry "All House Bills Are DOA" Reid about all the bills he's obstructing do they?

So get your team to rally and impeach them...lolololol.

Always, always someone or something else's fault.

Hell, it's been 6 years and the screeching and finger pointing at Bush is just now starting to die down some.

When all else fails, throw out the race card.

The song and dance, the lies, the excuses...it's old and tired.

With all that said, it still doesn't excuse the failures for the entire first two years when the dems had full control of everything and still did nothing.

Please, if a minority of Repubs have the seeming power you claim they do to keep America in trouble then I suggest your vaunted president and senate have ....some issues.

CBO: Eight Years of Iraq War Cost Less Than Stimulus Act

"According to CBO numbers in its Budget and Economic Outlook published this month, the cost of Operation Iraqi Freedom was $709 billion for military and related activities, including training of Iraqi forces and diplomatic operations.

The projected cost of the stimulus, which passed in February 2009, and is expected to have a shelf life of two years, was $862 billion."
