http://www.breitbart.com/video/2015/09/11/mcconnell-on-iran-deal-obama-won-short-term-battle-but-we-won-the-argument-with-the-american-people/ Sometimes (well, OK, often) the Republican leadership is so frikkin dishonest and conniving it makes me sick. They basically tee'ed the Iran deal up for Obama and now they're going to use it as a frikkin campaign issue???? Mitch, this isn't 1960. You can't hide from what you've allowed Obama to get away on this one, you sniveling coward. You have the majority! And what the hell have you done with it? Made excuses after caving on basically every item of Obama's agenda, that's what. And now you want to make the case you're winning the argument with American people? Here's a news flash, Mitch, winning the argument means diddly squat if YOU don't use your majority to stop Obama's agenda. If the GOP establishment makes it another two years I'll be amazed. By allowing this deal to just sail through, they've turned their backs on America & the US Constitution. They've thrown Israel under the bus and allowed Iran access to not only BILLIONS of dollars but a means to export even more aid to terrorists everywhere. My Gawd what dishonest cowards we have running this country.
If the GOP stopped this deal then how would they campaign on it? Typical DC win/win. Obama gets his deal the GOP gets to pretend they tried to stop it
McConnell has been working this putrid deal for Obama behind the scenes for quite some time. Many House Republicans have stood strong against the deal but nerd Mitch's response is to shut down debate and proceed with a vote. If Republican leadership aka McConnell won’t stand up against Obama, what the hell good are they?
He is pathetic. Does concern over national security enter into his political calculations, at all? Never trust a guy without a chin.
Hard to believe they try to call themselves Republican "Leadership". Need to clean house of these guys and find real leaders.
Here's the worst part of this. In now way is this deal anything but a Treaty. The U.S. Senate cannot pass some bill that violates the U.S. Constitution regarding treaties, which they did with McConnell leading the way. We are being abused as citizens by the (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s in Washington D.C. Mello was right. The establishment Republicans though this would be a nifty campaign issue instead of doing their (*)(*)(*)(*)ing jobs. The ONLY Republicans that should benefit from this are the Ted Cruz types that voted against that bull(*)(*)(*)(*) bill and have stood up actively against it. The others that played the game deserve no credit. The Establishment Republican Party is full of scumbags including: Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, John McCain, Lindsay Graham, and dozens and dozens of others. They will spend your children into greater debt side by side with the Democrats. They will allow Authoritarian Centralized Government rule to prevail side by side with the Democrats. They will allow millions of illegal immigrants in our nation for cheap labor side by side with the Democrats. They will favor Crony Capitalists over the common American side by side with the Democrats. They need to go.
He should have done the same thing the House did, vote on a resolution of approval rather than disapproval since Obama has not complied with Corker Bill, but he folded like an expensive tent and claimed he was playing 3 dimensional chess when it was clear he was playing marbles. - - - Updated - - - Yes. Just who are they "leading"?
Mark Levin nailed it on his YouTube podcasts.McConnell was working on a rigged fix starting back in march.Levin insists that McConnell must have worked in league with Obama to play nice and patty cake his Republican members. Levin keeps stressing this should have been treated as if a Treaty with Advise and Consent.Corker pulled a fast one and decided to make it easy for the situstion which evolved.Democrats slowly picking up more votes and then as of Wednesday night they could block any filibuster.McConnel { who Levin brands as a Benedict Arnold } wasted no time yesterday in calling for a vote to ensure victory for Obama and his democrats w/o any recording of who voted how.
It appears that the Republicans in Congress with their current leadership <cough, hack> shud apply for the new remake of the Keystone Cops movies...
I'm afraid we do now have a verified Kelptocracy.Which explains why Obama spent so much time Fundraising and playing golf { used to recruit those who can be bought }.Both Boehner and McConell were pretty straight-laced honorable Conservatives UNTIL Obama took office.Obama had been on a mission to Buy America., Pols, businessman,Silicon Valley,of course Unions and yes most importantly Republican leadership. I wonder what kind of leverage Obama uses to Buy pols like Boehner and McConnell. Threats of family members + huge cash perks.
So-called "leaders" like this useless, old, washed-up RINO are what an autocratic, wanna-be dictator like Obama uses for ass-wipe. Just go away, Mitch... you're as helpless as teats on a boar hog.... "Oh, no! I shoulda changed my Depends before I came out here...."
Heck, if were lucky, the GOP will win again. The problem the Right has and they never have really figured it out, is when it comes to Iran, they have no plan of their own. When it comes to Healthcare, they have no plan of their own. When it comes to getting jobs, they have no plan of their own. When it comes to climate change, they have no plan of their own. They're just a bunch of bodies running around hating Obama, trying to obstruct and hijack his agenda, trying to make him look bad. In the meantime, the man has done great things without the GOP. And now, it's finally caught up with them. They have no plan for anything, and they spend all their time hating what Obama does. And that's it.
Notwithstanding the rhetoric from Israeli and the campaign against the deal by AIPAC, it was AIPAC itself that quietly worked these arrangements and lobbied against amendments that were meant to kill the deal. The reason is and was simple too: AIPAC and the Israelis want to have their cake and eat it too! Iran, which has already eliminated its stockpile of 20% enriched uranium and which has already suspended putting to work its most advanced new generation centrifuges, under the deal will have to destroy 98% of its stockpile of low enriched uranium and reduce its centrifuges to 5,000 from 19,000. It will have to also move its nuclear infrastructure mainly to facilities that will no longer be invulnerable to attack. Once Iran takes these measures, Iran will not longer have the same capacity as it has now: to build nukes very quickly in case there is a campaign started that looks like it is aimed to lead to military action against Iran. The fact is that the timeline for the US to built its forces and to create the political and diplomatic conditions to attack Iran would right now be longer than what Iran needs to build nukes. With this deal, that will no longer be the case and the whole so-called opposition and hoopla is meant to simply give the Republicans/the US/the Israelis the cover to renege on its promises and to act in bad faith, saying they were never for it anyway. Of course, even if this deal is implemented, the Machiavellian tactics and thoughts by the AIPAC crowd will not succeed. The Israelis are simply digging their own graves with these kind of calculations.
I'm sure that neither Bill o the Clown or Mr McConnell bothered to tell the audience that the legislation that enabled a Congressional vote needed to be a vote of disapproval, which was relatively easy to block. This is an exective agreement, and not a treaty, so it did not really need Congressional approval. But Bob Corker made sure that Congress got on the record, while not actually blocking the President or the five other nations involved in the deal. He had to. If Congress had actually stopped a mulitlateral international agreement like this, it would have been the first time in history since Henry Cabot Lodge stopped the US from joining teh League of Nations. That vote doomed the League and was an important lesson for the US and the League's sucessor. It also essentially meant that the US was withdrawing from participation on the world political stage, dispite its immense financial, industrial and military power.
That sums it up. The GOP never saw opposition to the Iran deal as anything more than another pawn in their long running campaign to try and winnow Jewish voters away from the Democratic party by appealing to Zionism. That was the core of the GOP position. The facts, national security, nor the fact that the deal had widespread approval all over the world entered into it. They'll campaign on the Iran deal, but they weren't serious about opposing it.
Ace (of Spades) has it nailed. It's 'Failure Theater'. The base wants 'X'. Leadership and the Chamber of Commerce want 'not X'. There will be a great gnashing of teeth, much harumphing and at the end they will fail the base and roll over for the C of C. I can think of 5 examples in the last 3 years. PP defunding will be the next fail. ABANDON THE GOP. THEY DO NOT REPRESENT THE PEOPLE. .
