It would appear as if the foreign police dogs are less discriminating in their biting techniques than the American ones.
On one hand I am totally against use of dogs by police for chase and apprehension. A human officer has made the choice of being a police officer. A dog does not. Which is why I donate to get our local dogs ballistic vests. My feeling is, you wanna be a cop? Do it. Don't make an animal do it.
I was, reference was, fast. Three year invite to the Florida Relays, High School record holder in my county in the 100. Ran in Florida High School State Track Championships three years in row in the 100,220 and 440 relay. Letterman in Track and Football as a safety and kick returner. At the height of my "career". I could not out run that dog for more than a few yards if not feet using blocks and wearing spikes. Dogs are an awesome animal.
I understand your position, and in some ways agree with it, but many dogs have been bred over the years to be working dogs. It is their nature. They are not happy if they are not working and interacting with other animals, including people. It is why you should not have certain breeds as pets to be fenced or kept indoors.
"Working" is one thing. Search and rescue, bomb and weapon sniffing is great. But to make them chase and fight an armed suspect?
I don't know that they are made to do any of it really. We had a dog when I was a kid that was originally being trained as a K-9 dog but washed out because he did not have whatever it was they needed from him. He was rather spastic so I assume it was the lack of focus that washed him out of K-9 school. Seems I read somewhere that a lot of dogs wash out of being trained to be service dogs for the disabled as well because they are not well-suited for the job.
I'd forgotten I posted that. Not that anyone noticed! :roll; Oh well, story of my life - Mr Invisible, that's me!
Between our first dog handler and the dog they had one pair of balls. That's why the dog handler wanted the dog. He told how superbly trained the dog was and would quit attacking on command. Bull(*)(*)(*)(*). I put on the padded suit and got attached. I would stand there while the handler screamed, "Out, out, out, out, out, out, out...." That was the command for the dog to quit attacking and come to heel. I like dogs and they have a place in police departments but in my opinion, they're over used and too often the officers that want the dogs want them for the wrong reasons.

Like herding livestock as well as a vast variety of other jobs that don't put them in possible harmful or deadly situations such as a police dog can face. So I too have reservations about using dogs in police work. Sure it may be in their nature to want to 'help or serve man'. But that's a loyalty issue. The choice to use a dog in police work is that of the human and not the dog.

The choice to use a dog in police work is that of the human and not the dog Yes. We all understand 'why' police dogs serve. And the various rolls they serve in in police work. Duh. The point being, which you've seemed to miss or conveniently overlook, is that police work can be inherently dangerous and even deadly for a variety of reasons. So it makes sense that there would be dog lovers who would be concerned for a dogs well being and have reservations about them serving as 'police' dogs. It's really not that complicated is it? And by the way, according to a Washington Post article/report, there 26 police dogs were killed in the line of duty in the U.S. in 2015. A number which was sharply up over the previous two prior years. You do know that dogs can't voice an opinion as whether or not to serve as police dogs, right?
Other than point out to you that police dogs are fed and watered in exchange for doing a job of work, as opposed to being lifestyle accessories to love and cherish like your dog/s is/are, I'm not going to comment on anything you said, because I find it literally impossible to communicate with 'dog lovers': I find them totally irrational, obsessive, selfish, anti-social, and shallow-minded. Apart from that they're alright!
***Yet you did in your own snide way, smiley aside and all***. Of course we all know that there are some 'dog lovers' with the personalities you describe, that's no big secret. But I'll bet even most of their dogs are 'fed and watered' just as 'police dogs' are, that's just basically being humane. But if that's what it takes to keep dogs with owners of those personalities from being abandoned or out of shelters and at worse being euthanized, then I don't really have a problem with that. Maybe you do, your comments would seem to indicate that, 'Apart from their alright' not withstanding. I believe that there are far more of us who's dogs are loved and cherished and cared for as much as are our human relatives are, without the personality defects you described. They're not just our 'pets'. Next time please don't try pigeon hole all dog owners into your idea of what they are about. It's certainly not fair and cheapens any point you might be trying to make.
What's a matter. Cat got your tongue? Reduced to posting only smileys and a quote that only means something to you. How embarrassing.
