TRIGGER WARNING Meet Generation Snowflake British think tank boss says mollycoddled kids are breaking down in tears when asked to deal with controversial ideas. Claire Fox, head of a think tank called the Institute of Ideas, has penned a coruscating critique of Generation Snowflake, the name given to a growing group of youngsters who believe its their right to be protected from anything they might find unpalatable. She said British and American universities are dominated by cabals of young women who are dead set on banning anything they find remotely offensive. It makes me sad that these teens and 20-somethings have become so fearful that they believe a dissenting opinion can pose such a serious threat, Fox wrote in an article for Mail Online. This hyper-sensitivity has prompted the University of East Anglia to outlaw sombreros in a Mexican restaurant and caused the National Union of Student to ban clapping as as it might trigger trauma, asking youngsters to use jazz hands instead. Books containing troublesome material are now slapped with trigger warnings, whilst universities and student unions are declared safe spaces where young people should not have to encounter anything they disagree with. They assume their emotional suffering takes precedence. Express a view they disagree with and you must immediately recant and apologize. There is a strand of self-absorption and fragility running through this generation; all too ready to cry victim at the first hint of a situation they dont like, Fox concluded. We need a younger generation thats prepared to grow a backbone, go out into the world, take risks and make difficult decisions. Otherwise the future doesnt bode well for any of us. https://www.thesun.co.uk/uncategori...odern-kids-who-cant-cope-with-being-offended/ You can't make this stuff up...........well actually you can but you don't have to. I hadn't realized that the problem had spread to Britain. I'm getting back in my safe space.
These fine people don't seem to have a problem offending, assaulting, insulting, throwing eggs at, etc people.
Looking at the fact that this generation has grown up in world where their parents were willing to go to war and spend trillions of dollars on the terrorist "threat" (despite the fact that we are more likely to die in a train crossing accident than a terrorist attack) I think the term "reap what you sow," might be applicable here.
My wife was watching the Bachelorette the other night and to make a long story short, all the "men" in the house ganged up on the biggest guy ( Oklahoman dude ) and kept trying to push him into a fit of rage. When he threatened one of the main guys running his mouth, they all got scared and asked for security guards to watch over them while they sleep. They even pulled the host aside and told him that they were afraid this guy was gonna get violent. When the host called this guy outside, the camera showed all the other guys...standing behind walls peeking out, and one guy even had his fingers in his mouth as he watched. Then during a conversation with one of the other dudes, the guy says to the big fella, "Let's pretend you're Hitler," and the big guy interrupts and says, "Let's NOT say I'm Hitler." They guy responds with, "Ok, then let's say you're Donald Trump..." These are the "men" that make up America now... Note, all these guys were mid to late 20's and a couple were even Marines. Pathetic. *Yes, the drama sucked me in and the fear of these liberal girly boys kept me watching in amazement*
Sure, let's forget about WW1, WW2, Korea and Viet Nam. I think the term "Nancy" might be applicable here.
Now you seem to be going all over the place - first you say these people are weak and have no backbone - then you criticize them for being too aggressive. Make up your mind.
You realize that entire show is fake along with the "drama" that goes along with it correct? It's staged. Or are you one of those, "It is called a reality show so it can't be fake" type of people?
This generation has grown up to parents that are their best friend instead of their parent, and let them do whatever they want to do. That's why they throw drama queen hissy fits when they don't get what they want. These aren't kids that belong to soldiers. And most of their parents have nothing to do with government spending.
Dude - we are talking about 20 somethings - so to place them in context of wars from 50+ years ago is kind of asinine. Really -you are bouncing all over the place on this one.
Obviously... But that's not the point. Those nerds that call themselves men weren't told to go hide and get security guards to watch them while they sleep. It's extremely typical of how the big talkers act after they push someone to the point of nearly getting violent. I'm not a reality show guy, period. That's why I left the little note at the end of my post that said I got sucked in by the drama queen girly boys' fear.
Kind of reminds me of THIS thread. Remember, all it takes is just one question to sends our snowflakes spiraling into a depression, running towards their safe spaces.
100+ years of kids growing up while we were at war and this is the first generation of fragile little sissys. Your "reap what you sow claim" is asinine, which is what I was referring to. And Thirty6 Below is correct, being at war with terrorist has nothing to do with any of this. These kids are too self absorbed with their IPhones to pay attention to what's happening in the world.
All of it is fake, including the those people asking for security. It's called drama for a reason and it's staged. Not sure how anyone watches that fake (*)(*)(*)(*).
Take 2: It's extremely typical of how the big talkers act after they push someone to the point of nearly getting violent. Also explains why he was compared to Hitler and then Trump.
How is that any different than the people who want to ban same-sex marriage because it makes them uncomfortable?
No it is the fault of the parents and grandparents who brought their kids up wrong, enacted wrong school policies, and otherwise demonstrated their incompetence in all they do. I mean them there snowflakes are going to be the ones having to pay off your enormous national debt and wiping your arse in the old folks home.
Here's a fact, the article is British and is referring to young people in Britain and America. You'd better get back to your safe space before I post a picture of side walk chalk and trigger a hissy fit.
We seriously need to think hard about tossing those Limey's aside, they are no longer a worthy lapdog...
It is different insofar as there are no people who want to ban same sex marriage "because it makes them feel uncomfortable."
