Naw, the illogical diatribes by the anti nutters make them look unreasonable, emotional, and uneducated. Every post is another nail in the coffin of those fearful of the scary looking gun.
The facts say otherwise: "New Stanford research confirms that right-to-carry gun laws are linked to an increase in violent crime.... " 'The totality of the evidence based on educated judgments about the best statistical models suggests that right-to-carry laws are associated with substantially higher rates' of aggravated assault, rape, robbery and murder, said Donohue." http://news.stanford.edu/2014/11/14/donohue-guns-study-111414/
I guess you've never heard about the weapons effect- that the mere presence of a weapon can make someone feel more violent and aggressive. Guns not only permit violence, they can stimulate it as well. The finger pulls the trigger, but the trigger may also be pulling the finger. - Leonard Berkowitz, Emeritus Professor of Psychology, University of Wisconsin
The facts do not say otherwise. This study and it's usage of a dummy statistical model (aptly named) has been examined multiple times, and is in direct contradiction to at least 3 other studies found: here http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/13504851.2013.854294 here http://crimeresearch.org/wp-content...An-Exercise-in-Replication.proof_.revised.pdf here http://poseidon01.ssrn.com/delivery...5069075001065118118125006022009067005&EXT=pdf and here http://crimeresearch.org/wp-content...he-Crime-Prevention-Research-Center-Final.pdf Here is a little excerpt from your assertion that gun owners commit more crimes. Even police commit more gun offenses, and non CCW owners blow the crime rate out of the water.
The illogic of this position has been hashed out and addressed multiple times before in the past. For a weapon to make someone more violent, they would have to be violent by their very nature to begin with, and would be driven to act on whatever negative tendencies they possess simply by being provided an everyday implement, such as a hammer or screwdriver. If someone is motivated to engage in violence, the implement is ultimately useless in the equation.
We are also taught the law and have to pass a test on the law (as well as a practical hands-on test) to drive a car, but that doesn't mean the roads are not full of idiots.
Just curious, do you happen to know the number of people a year, in the US, that have successfully fend of a criminal attack using a firearm? Not including police or military of course.
I was merely being sarcastic to DoctorWho's comment since after reading some of the gun supporter's comments on the this forum has left me wondering how true his statement could be.
Meh, could actually care less either way, I just thought saying a gun is not a weapon unless it is used as such as said in this quote... . ...was the most illogical thing I have ever seen and it kind of snowballed from there. I'll give you guys this though, you guys are passionate about your guns.
I'm glad you did not like it. You don't appear to understand the difference between Recreation and the will to murder. That's on you.
Further, does the presence of a baseball bat compel one to bash another person's brains out? When you lay down with your mate there are pillows. Does the presence of the pillow compel you to smother your beloved? These things are not weapons but they can be used as such. This discussion has become as absolutely silly as any other I've seen debating scary guns.
I do know this, I fend off enough attacks every year, I fear not driving or walking about in the worst neighborhood, my sidearm keeps me safe and secure.
A baseball bat is used to bat balls in the game. A pillow is, of course, to lay on. What other purpose does a gun have besides being a weapon? Sure, you can use it for target practice, but it was invented to kill. The same goes for a sword or bow. These are weapons because that is their primary use, to kill something. Now believe it or not, I am not for banning guns, I just think it is dishonest to say that guns are not weapons.
Still doesn't explain your statement about divine knowledge. Do tell. The above is just another attempt to deflect.
According to the research (one of the BIGGEST gun violence studies), it is not clear what the effects of concealed carry are on the overall crime rate, however, the evidence does show that many violent crimes in states that allow for concealed carry have in fact decreased. While the experts claim it is negligible, only because they cannot prove the causation factor, the evidence strongly points to concealed carry leading to reduction in violent crimes. I don't know where that study you posted comes from. Seems to be in contradiction with pretty much every other valid and peer reviewed gun violence study
they couldn't prove that those carrying guns legally were causing any of the increases so that is major fail on your part. and right to carry has swept the nation and crimes have gone down OOPS
According to the anti-gun loons at the VPC: 183 per day. http://www.vpc.org/studies/justifiable15.pdf
People with CCWs rarely get arrested for felonies and some misdemeanors. Revocations are swift and immediate when CCWs are arrested. I don't see how your study can be true when records show revocations are extremely rare.
Ok, I was just bored before and couldn't care less, but now you call me a liar and you force me to defend myself. So the issue is whether my statement was meant to be pejorative or sarcasm (it's a fine line) so for starters, here are the quotes in question: So I highlighted the part of DoctorWho's post that I was being sarcastic about. It is silly to believe that everyone against your position cannot possibly understand your position and that all people who agree with your position have perfect knowledge, so I used "divine knowledge" in a sarcastic sense to show the silliness of such a belief. If you want to waste more time over this, fine with me, but I think your time would be better spent actually debating the issues instead of worrying over semantics.
