LMAO Even when I complimented you, you came back bitter. LOL Actually, I had gone to the post at Ft. Ord and located the Major who signed up men to go to OCS. Had I got there a couple weeks sooner, I would have served my time as an Officer. They realized in Germany I was officer material from the way I was treated By the way, had i claimed what you just claimed, You would be on firm ground. I never could have been a member of any pro team in any sport. .
Does anyone here actually watch O'Reilly on a regular basis? I heard somebody say that his program's main viewers were nursing home residents who used his voice for background noise.
Why would a any person, treat other people like animals? I understand some people, generally men, treat their wife or even their kids in unacceptable ways and others, again generally men, are terrible people, but that doesn't prove "so called" slave owners were anything other than employers. Then you have today, all forms of humans that treat drug addicts or mentally disturbed people, for profit...pushers, sex, porn, but then that has no bearing on what happened to people that were under the care of others. IMO, today many poor in this and other countries, are simply being paid for doing nothing, other than loyalty to those that promote such policy. If a group demands loyalty for money, is that slavery of sorts.
Actually I have seen, more than one ACTIVE plantation labor encampment, in Southern Virginia in the 1950's. One vividly comes to mind. Maybe 50 seemed like wood shacks with a couple larger wooden structures, probably some kind of store and maybe 200 people (all ages) doing different things. They were share croppers, by then, so somewhat different than slavery, since they were paid and kept up their own little town. BUT then I have also seen what they call public housing, in Chicago and Houston. I turned down managing the Houston, 200 unit, because of it's condition, which was really bad and that was about 1972. As for diets....I don't think your book, told you worked performed has a good deal to do with your food intake. But in all honesty, I don't know what poor folks (not slaves) generally ate in those day's. I'd guess beans and rice. Slaves probably ate better and I suppose the owners ate even better than their slaves, but this notion people in general ate like what most Americans do today, is simply not true. Think the average weight for American's must be up 50 pounds or much much more for some and I can honestly say, I saw very few really fat people around, until no smoking and free food became the rule in the late 70's.
I understand people can say anything on these forums, but what I said about my ancestors is apparently documented and true. In fact my sir name, still has heritage in England, which accreditation was lost when Thomas L (>>>>) accepted his land Grant. However my point is/was, most every person living in the US, first to 15th generation, are better off, than if their ancestors had not ventured to America. Life today in Africa, India, China and all the ME or NA (North Africa), is no where near as good today, as in the US.
Speaking as a conservative and as an American, all that is immaterial. They were lacking the most basic of rights--the right to liberty. I've always been irritated by O'Reilly. While he has conservative leanings, he's more of a populist (almost a demagogue). I view him similar to the way I view Trump--a northeastern liberal pretending to be conservative.
There was no need to bring it up. Michelle Obama never mentioned that the slaves were treated bad (or good or anything in between). The main thing she mentioned is that they were slaves, and had no choice but to build the White House.
And there is no reason to attack him for bringing it up. The Media Matters smear merchants of the world take every opportunity to pile on O'Reilly any chance they get. That is obvious from this thread.
He states that it is a given that slavery is an abomination - that encourages slavery ?? And againg, where does he defend Roger Ailes with respect to the sexual harassment claims of Gretchen Carlson et. al. ??
Some on this thread have said slavery was the best thing that ever happened to blacks. These comments embolden them. I am on my phone so I can't provide a reference for comments about ailes
My family came to America in 1624 and had two land grants in TN and NW Alabama.. Its just not that unusual.
Who cares ?? There are nut cases all over the place. O'Reilly has stated that he stands behind Roger Ailes 100% because Ailes was the best boss he has ever had. He gives him the benefit of the doubt. That does not mean that he is defending any wrong doing that Ailes may have done.
I don't recall her making that statement, the only folks who were misled are those who were sleeping in school when it was being taught.
Lol...No, she stated an inconvenient truth and caused yet another hysterical brain fart among the right. But then, anything to distract attention from the great orange hope's continual embarrassments, eh? He was at it again yesterday, ranting about wanting to punch out the convention speakers who he thought were mean to him. What a childish narcissist he is. And his poodle, Pence, trots out to hector the dems for insulting people. What a maroon he is. I guess he doesn't listen to Trump talk or he thinks every voter is as dumb as a Trump chump.
It served the purpose of addressing Michele's proclaimed feelings of grievence with which she awakens each morning.
Ahh the Italy aboutbthe trains running on time and are you trying to equate the treatment of the Jews by the Nazis with slavery in the United States? Really? If so you know little about each. - - - Updated - - - But it wasn't when America was colonized and Europeans established a slave based economy. - - - Updated - - - And one of the basic fundimental differences escapes you?
You can to a large extent since by that time slavery had been abandoned in most European countries and it prevented the British from joining our Civil War on the Southern side.
