The house speaker seems to be in damage control mode. Making sure R's can still hold congress, but has given up hope of the WH. Most have seen this in the making back in the primaries. But Trump is trump. To childish, boorish, condescending, to be the world leader. http://www.channel3000.com/news/politics/Ryan-all-but-concedes-Clinton-will-defeat-Trump/42041318 Some have said, it was his plan all along to get the D in the WH. Possible?
Sorry, not buying that his idiot had a master plan other than garnering all of the free publicity that the MSM was willing to lavish on him in order to stimulate interest for his next reality show. It was actually the MSM that propelled Trump into this far fetched position of being a presidential candidate...them and the useful reality show idiotic fans that take Trump seriously.
Neither have I and never will, but there was a large fan base and when combined with his birther base he has a ready made political base. HIs reality show fans believe that his "you're fired" bull (*)(*)(*)(*) made him a "great" businessman which will in turn will make him a "great" POTUS. Pathetic, but true.
this is completely unprecedented in the history of presidential politics. The highest ranking member in congress has essentially thrown in the towel on his party's presidential nominee and will not longer campaign or defend said candidate, while urging all those on the down ticket to do as circumstances require, thereby releasing them from towing the party line if association with that candidate will hurt their chances of election. And what do we hear from the trumpettes? Crickets. this is perhaps the most amazing historic thing so far in the campaign.
Crickets indeed. If the house speaker isn't backing their candidate for prez. Pretty much means the rest aren't either. And no one on the R side seems to care at all. Guess one shouldn't be surprised. Afterall, it's probably R's tearing down trump signs all over the place.
Or an insistence that it makes no difference at all as far as voters are concerned. It is unprecedented for a party hierarchy to revolt against their own presidential candidate like that. They seem very confident that Trump will not be positively remembered by the public.
Its truly amazing but not surprising. When one examines Trumps tactics, much of it is right out of the alt-right playbook which one can examine at stormfront.org, which is not surprising since Bannon is the flag bearer for breitbart.
Its not that many of them don't care, its just that Trump has backed moderate republicans and conservatives into a corner and CAN"T defend him, while the usual suspects are all over it.
This is not completely unprecedented. In the election of 1884 the Republican candidate James Blaine became repugnant to many Republicans who bolted from the party and supported Grover Cleveland who then won the election. These defectors were called mugwumps. It was with Cleveland that the progressive era is said to have started.
We can liken it to a scene in the titanic. The ship has hit the iceberg and everyone's out to save themselves. A perfect description of the GOP and if Democratic voters pick up on it, we might see a majority like that of 1913. Now, not many people approve of Democrats(but still twice that of the GOP) so maybe not as wide as 1913, but wide enough that we shouldn't hear Hillary's excuses. She'll have the WH, she'll have Congress. There's no blank checks this time. No more 'vast right wing conspiracy'. She and her party has a job to do.
Ryan is just facing REALTY. He is coming to the same conclusion, that anybody paying attention (who actually possessed a brain) came to last year: Donald Trump is UNFIT to be President and never had a prayer of winning the General Election. Definitely a good move to try hang onto the House. (The Senate is ALREADY lost). Smart move by Ryan.
Scary to think Hilary could have total control. Thanks R's. Don't be whiners over the next 4 yrs. You gave it to us.
They had only one job to do: Appeal to the Moderates not only in the party, but outside of the party. They couldn't do it, because the Republican Party is just like Mike Pence: Stuck in time, unable to adapt and therefore isn't even a national party anymore. 57% of Americans want a third party. That's how bad the present situation is.
So, why don't those 57% bite the bullet and just vote 3rd party? Gary Johnson is a 3rd party. I've voted him a few times. 3rd party, more than any other party have I voted.
The problem lies in the 'wasted vote' theory, especially in this election. Those who despise Hillary Clinton, wouldn't want to see Hillary in office. Those who despise Trump, wouldn't want to see Trump in office.. And those who despise both, probably waver back and forth and some presumably do go 3rd party like I'm going to this November. But really, it makes no sense. In my opinion, true disenfranchisement is voting for the people who don't represent your interests because you think 'it's a wasted vote'. A wasted vote, is voting for the incumbent when you want change. A wasted vote is when you don't vote to send your message.
The American people are about to make a tragic mistake. Hillary is 1,000x more corrupt than Nixon was. But I don't care anymore. The country is too far gone. We took a left turn and now we suck. Pity the generations that follow us.
Yes, we'll all see the middle class shrink further. Corporations have greater profits, at the expense of the middle class. I already know this. Been going on for 30+ yrs, and she is of the same mold. And the political elites get greater and greater wealth. Just for being in public office.
It HAS been going on for 30 years (because of the Reagan revolution and the rise of conservative policies) and you expect to turn that around in a week or a month? What has to happen is that the NATION has to realize that conservative policies don't work and that we need to elect progressives to the Senate and the House and get more progressives on the Supreme Court
I don't expect it to turn around, period. And especially if we keep electing life long elite professional politicians.
