Were they doing it today, I sure would. However though Democrats waste time condemning the long dead slave owners, they refuse to add to those the presidents. It is rather futile condemning either the presidents or the past slave owners who long since died. It seems this country is not in danger of restoring the legal status of slavery.
or all the great heroes in human history starting with Plato and Aristotle who slowly built the foundation of our culture but didn't live up to our modern standards. 1+1=2
Condemn the greatest figures in all of human history whose thinking about freedom just freed 1.3 billion in what was communist china?? Never, of course.
Here in the USA, slavery is, well, hated. Yet we imposed a form of slavery during our own military draft. Even today in our military, you will obey or face punishment. But in parts of the world, they still engage in slavery and though I can't be certain of all cases, expect that slavery is still not only allowed, but entirely legal. This fight here in the USA over slavery is a nutzo argument. We put it into law around 1865 to ban slavery. I see no reason why some fight over it. But today we still have people who never were slaves, acting as if it is a standing problem.
ironically, liberals use slavery to condemn the freedom of America. America was evil at its founding and so we must switch to communism wherein there is, somehow, more freedom.
funny thing about this forum about how liberals get condemned by the far right for everything - including slavery
liberals have been the source of evil in human history. This is why our Founders sought to make it illegal with the Constitution. Do you understand?
I'm not a liberal...but that is an outrageous statement. That seems to be your mode...outrageous statements. The founders did not seek to make it illegal. In fact, most of the founders acknowledged that it was legal...and that they were not going to make it illegal. In fact, it would be almost three-quarters of a century before definitive moves to make it illegal were made.
dear, if you don't think, as our Founders did, that liberalism is has been the source of evil on earth please tell us why. Why are you so afraid to tell us the obvious? Why do you have to be asked? What do you learn from your fear?
wrong of course! Our Republican Founders sought to create a very very tiny govt because liberal govt had been the source of evil in human history. Now do you understand?
I understand that you have, erroneously, decided that the Founders decided that slavery was illegal...and you are going to mouse around with the notion because you do not have the ethical wherewithal to acknowledge you are wrong. Doesn't make you a bad person...just a wrong one.
There were several Founders that thought that the institution of slavery was wrong, BUT, due to what they understood to be the more pressing matter of shedding British rule, chose to kick the can down the road as it were, in order to establish a "More Perfect Union". A Vulcan practice of setting the good of the many, above the good of the few, or the one.
I agree about "kicking the can down the road" on the issue... ...but that is just the reason I disagree with Ted's assertion that the founders made it illegal! They didn't.
I understand. I've found trying to discuss anything with Ted, ends up being a study on how to bash one's head into a wall, whilst avoiding the BanHammer, or post deletion, which is why For The first time for me ever online, I have someone on my ignore list.
Of course slavery was legal in America. This country was formed from English colonies and the English themselves didn't outlaw slavery until the 1800's. Besides slavery, other odious forms of labor were popular, namely indentured servitude and children laboring in factories for 12 hours a day. We were, quite simply a more cruel and callous society back in the day, the DOI notwithstanding. As far as slavery goes, most of what is in the popular consciousness is about Southern slavery. For a more complete view, http://slavenorth.com/ is great resource.
Our Founders made liberalism illegal by bending over backwards 1000 ways to keep govt tiny. Evil liberals throughout history have always wanted the exact opposite. This is why liberals want a living changing constitution, i.,e., so they can change it to communist, in fact this is why liberalism spied for Stalin and voted for Sanders. 1+1=2
Your original assertion was that the founders made slavery illegal. They didn't...and I pointed that out to you. So far, you have not acknowledged that you were wrong.
You argued that the founders sought to make slavery illegal by the Constitution. I said you were wrong...they did not...that most of them considered it legal...and made no move to change things. And certainly there was nothing in the Constitution (back then) that indicated they sought to make slavery illegal. If you want to pay me $10,000 for evidence that you did say that the founders sought to make slavery illegal by the Constitution...I will gladly accept the $10,000...although I would much rather you donate it to a charity for disabled children in my name. Are you still willing to make the $10,000 payment if I present the evidence? - - - Updated - - - My wording was poor here. Read my comments to your previous post. I'll stand by that? By the way...one does not say they will pay someone a set amount for something...and then ask "Is it a bet?" A bet is different from a challenge.
