    To cite:

"Yet instead of raising the income limits on Social Security taxes -- a relatively easy thing to do -- the GOP approach to "saving" Social Security is to carve it up, cut benefits and privatize it. That's not a viable solution for the millions of Americans who are coming up short on retirement funding."

And so it begins. The decades-old GOP efforts to gut social security and privatize it start anew. And that after all of Trump's promises to leave SS alone. Some quotes:

"We're not going to raise the age and it will be just fine."

"But we're not going to hurt the people who have been paying into Social Security their whole life and then all of a sudden they're supposed to get less"

What will he do? Veto a potential GOP bill like Johnson's? Or renege on his campaign promises as hurt the voters who put him into office?

I think it is going to be the latter, since all he cares about is $$$, and not the American middle class voters. After all, his fat cats friends are going to get a windfall if SS taxes would start flowing into investment banks. An that's all the GOP cares about, yet they managed to hoodwink the people who rely on SS as their main retirement income to vote for them.

When are liberals going to accept the fact that you just can't keep giving everyone unlimited free money forever because you want to?

When are you going to realize people pay SS all of their lives and it is their money. It is supposed to be a retirement fund, not a slush fund.

Yep a Opinion piece based on information from a "Progressive cant Think Tank" ( ok i added a word) that is basing its opinion on what exactly? What concrete plans/bills have been suggested that they are getting their "facts" from?

Then tell us what the real plan is.

You mean the one you made up. Besides, it was Bush who provided the free phones. The noise machine lied to you (and you bought the lie, as usual).

I will agree some reform is needed within the system. But continually raising the retirement age is not the answer. In reality, who hires many people over age 60?

Considering that the Trump tax plan is expected to add massivly to the defecit it seems somewhat disingenuous for the Republicans to be expressing such concern over Social Security's eventual contribution to the defecit.

Again from the same think tanks that know nothing besides peddling partisan nonsense.

READ... Its an issue and politics has nothing to do with it.. Its about time people grow the hell up and start addressing issues instead of slinging (*)(*)(*)(*) back and forth.

You still don't get it do you. Trump is the anti establishment candidate so your implication that the establishment GOP thinking on SS is Trump's thinking is a huge fail. Nice try and I'm sure some will play your game but not me.

Considering their plan will help out the country back into solid economic growrh and put more people back to work paying taxes on higher incomes and more economic activity produces more investment tax revenue it seems pretty genuous to me they want to fx. Social Security.

What seems disengenuous is the left complaining when for 10 years Democrats did nothing the get the economy back on track and nothing about Social Security and now complain about Republicans.

SS age was set when people had hard lives and manual labor jobs. By the time people under fifty now are in their sixty's most of them will be desk jockeys. I would be for an early benefits exemption for workers that have a long history of physical jobs though. I was a logger all my life and I know from experience that by 62 I was pretty well worn out and used up.

I think their is also a difference between a young mind and an older mind. Young minds seem to pick up on things quicker and learn new things faster. I think people working the majority of their lives should not have to wait a year or two before death to relax. But I have no sympathy for someone that games the system and goes on disability without being disabled.

If he's the anti-establishment candidate, and follow up on his promises to not touch SS, he'll surely veto a bill like Johnson's, won't he? Do you think he will?

I believe his statements were that for current or close to retirement age people there would be no changes.

But looking forward SS has to be changed for the better and the Democrats refuse to address it even with Obama as President the last 8 years.

Trump: "We're not going to raise the age and it will be just fine."

That sounds like a pretty strong statement to me that does not go with your interpretation of his stance (whatever that is). That didn't sound like it was aimed only at people close to retirement age.

Maybe it will be like his "read my lips, no new taxes" moment.

I will only agree with one thing you posted, why won't they raise the income amounts that should be taxed. No one has ever had a cogent explanation of why the limit is only $118K? $118K in California or New York is not even a median income. I think everyone should pay into social security no matter what amount you earn.

BTW, much of the cuts will be the welfare end of SS, those that have put little to none into it
