As much as a liberal as he is, I've always given Maher credit for consistency, as when he criticized Islam along with Christianity. (Photo by Frederick M. Brown/Getty Images) Bill Maher sent a message to those in Hollywood thinking about attacking President-elect Donald Trump saying, were the losers now and urging them to break out of their liberal bubble. In an interview published by The New York Times on Sunday, the 60-year-old host of Real Time with Bill Maher commented on the Golden Globe speech by actress Meryl Streep in which she attacked the president-elect, urged him not to kick out foreigners and called on the press to hold him accountable. Live on November 24, 2013 in Los Angeles (Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty Images) Were the losers now, so it behooves us to break out of that bubble more, Maher responded. It looks very insular. Just the liberals talking to themselves, which they are very good at doing. (RELATED: Bill Maher On Trump Cabinet Picks: He Just Wants To F**k With Us) Mahers talk show returns from hiatus the day Trump is sworn-in as the 45th president of the United States. In a recent interview the TV host said that were just in unchartered waters when it comes to a Trump presidency. Other presidents are not like this cat, Maher said. I mean, George Bush hated me and I didnt like him, but no matter how bad they wereall the Republicans it was like a glass bottom boat. Im looking at those sharks, but they cant really get me. And now, I feel like the shark can get me or anybody. Were just in unchartered waters. Read more: http://dailycaller.com/2017/01/16/b...-hollywood-were-the-losers-now/#ixzz4VzuXjFyj
And Bill mate, don't forget the great 'Trump Army' of ordinary citizens can get you too, by switching channels to avoid your show when it comes on, and send you way down the ratings.. Same message for the Hollywood moguls, if you try to push your lefty propaganda down our throats in your films, we'll think twice about watching them, and will therefore hit you at the box office and in video sales. For example my pet peeve is that you're putting too many blacks in your films, whereas in real life they're only about 1 in10 of the population, tut-tut..
I don't think Maher is talking about people switching the channel as much as the government shutting the channel down. I disagree strongly with the politics of Michael O'Donohughe and Dennis Miller but I watch/read them because they make me laugh, not because I like their message. Up until now Maher and all other comedians could be of whatever politics they want as long as they remain funny but what is going to happen if Trump takes umbrage enough at Colbert to arrest him? and after this business with the Hamilton cast and then Meryl Streep who can tell WHAT this (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) is going to do? Trump's first press conference was about the most frightening thing I've seen yet in this campaign. It was the first time ever I saw a President flat out attack and refuse to take questions from reporters who disagreed with him, in effect questioning their press credentials. Attacking the press is the first sure sign of a dictator, and Trump is showing it in spades. How long before tweets attacking movie stars become FBI agents at their doors, and how safe will anyone be after that? As to your complaint about blacks, you have to keep in mind that dramas aren't documentaries. If the public finds black people to be entertaining you are going to see more of them in movies, no matter how much you see them in real life.
1- I watched Don's press conf and I only saw him refusing to answer the "fake news" reporter, that's good because Don is sending out the clear signal to the media that if they print or broadcast fake news he'll blank them.. 2- The only black actors who entertain me are Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington and Idris Elba and maybe a couple more, but the rest bore me. Perhaps I'm oldfashioned but I grew up in an era when film star were pretty white boys and gals and very easy on the eye, the camera liked them and so did we.. PS- one of my favourite films is Jerry Lewis's 'The Nutty Professor', so when I heard they were doing a 1996 remake I was thrilled to bits, but when I found they'd cast Eddie Murphy in the role I was sick as a parrot and swore never to watch it, and i never will. Hey, I bet the Klan feel the same way and boycott certain films and TV shows too, so hopefully one day the film and TV moguls will wake up and realise their pol-correct casting is losing them big money at the box office, vid sales and in the TV ratings.. Go Jerry..
You can attack President-Elect Trump on a lot of different things, but not taking questions from reporters who disagree with him? That reaches a level of absurdity that's hard to deal with. Members of the press pool are being put on notice: if you publish things as news, it had better be based on facts. If you choose to publish cr*p, you will not be provided the same access to the President as those who publish news. And let's be clear: the New York Times is no friend of Trump's. So why did Trump offer praise to that organization? Because they performed as a legitimate news organization, and did what should be expected of news organizations, namely the checking of sources and the dismissal of unsubstantiated hearsay. And lest you missed it, the "reporter" in question has already been put on notice that the next time he tries to derail a press conference by shouting at the soon-to-be President over another member of the press pool who has been given the floor and is attempting to pose a question, he will be escorted out of the room. That's what a good many deplorables consider the proper running of a press conference. Members of the press are free to attend these Q and A sessions and are free to write what they wish; that's what we mean by freedom of the press. But members are not free to have the expectation that the President will entertain every question they can conjure up. Want to be treated like a news organization? Well, report the news like a news organization. If you can't be bothered to check your facts, the President can't be bothered to consider your questions. Seems perfectly reasonable to me.
For those of you who would say Trump is the first to deny a rude out of control member of the press asking a question:
Here's the thing about Maher. He's changed over the years. He used to be a live and let live kind of guy. Now, he's not. He's become petulant. He's become intolerant. This interview seems to reinforce that idea. He's worried because he seems to be projecting the idea that his views may now become a target of backlash from the next administration. I think his concerns are vastly overblown, his importance in the sphere of ideas being pretty limited. If we take his viewership as his measure of influence, his influence seems to be waning. Of course, mr Maher has only himself to blame for this. His own transformation into hyper liberal partisan certainly doesn't help his appeal beyond that very limited audience. Mr Maher shouldn't be worried about the sharks, he should have worried about his own hubris.
Trump can't handle the simplest of criticism. His thin skinned, man-child nature is something that should worry us all.
My favorite part “It looks very insular. Just the liberals talking to themselves, which they are very good at doing.” Amen
No, bull(*)(*)(*)(*), Not Even Close. This guy was flat out disruptive. He kept talking over Obama and Obama DID offer to let him stay and presumably get his question in later. The guy from CNN wasn't disruptive as much as overeager. And, FAR more importantly, Trump was VERY clear that he wasn't going to take the question because he didn't like what CNN had been saying about him, NOT that the reporter was rude. In light of the fact that Trump is considering moving the Press out of the White House, the first President since Theodore Roosevelt to do so, I think this is a development of some concern. But then there are Trump apologists who are saying this is being done to IMPROVE press relations. When Trump starts mass arrests the Trumpistas will say he's just restraining liberals he's afraid will trip and hurt themselves over the new surveillance cameras he's putting everywhere.
You're one person, not the literally millions most moviemakers want to attract. I thought Star Wars bit the big one, but I'm not everybody and Lucas is a billionaire. You think it's good that Trump sends out a clear message that you have to say what he likes or he'll call it 'fake' and blank you, if not outright revoke your press credentials. In this is the chief difference between Trumpistas and people who are concerned that we remain a free country
To the contrary, time and again those who attack him then sob when Trump responds. The left generally can not handle fights THEY start and can not handle what they dish out.
Personally I think Dems are missing the boat. They have a better chance working with Trump on my things if they would just except that he is president elect. Much more so than the chance of Republicans working with hillary to find common ground.
true dat, If Hillary would have won we would be in for 4 or worse 8 more years of the nothingness they call the Obama years. let's face it, America as we know it was doomed if Hillary would have won. Dem's would be much better served to join in on MAking America Great again. Otherwise just try and find a hole in the 305 Electoral votes and get used to losing for some time to come. Get ready to Win baby, that's why Trump is president, we might get tired of winning.
The idea of Trump arresting any comedian seems quite ridiculous to me. He just doesn't have that kind of power and he'd never get away with attempting it.
Yes, it would be disturbing if Trump goes full Putin on the press and only his loyal, biased media (like Breitfart) are allowed in, or something of that sort takes place.
Damn right , chew on that Democrats... I don't often agree with Maher, but he nailed it . Democrats are totally irrelevant! Loud , annoying , emotional , violent, and totally out of sorts , but irrelevant just the same. I am enjoying their whine. They deserve it.
Many white citizen wanted Donald Trump so he get nominee for next president round so far. Supreme Court and Kasich wants new republican and he want Cruz about five hours till last chance are in Supreme Court with elected president how Kasich I say want Cruz because he was second best republican last year in 5th month '16.
