Watched the first two episodes of The Young Pope this week. Watched 'em twice, in fact. Lots of good stuff there. Lots of fluff also...and a fair ration of what people refer to as "the unbelievable." But the acting is good; the cinematography is spectacular; and the sets and settings are stellar. I recommend it highly. Can't wait to see where they go with this mini-series. Jude Law's American accent reminded me of a blank verse poem I wrote many, many years ago. For what it is worth: Hes An Englishman Doing An American Accent Hes an Englishman Doing an American accent. Which means hes gonna use gonna a lot. And hes gonna use wanna every bit as much. Gotta will be working overtime, too, As will the double negatives. If you are an Englishman Who wants to do an American accent, A great sentence to practice would be: I dont wanna be no party pooper, But I gotta be home by 10, So Im gonna leave now.
I just watched the first episode of this last night, and I really dig it. SPOILERS: It seems especially relevant because Jude Law plays a non-establishment Pope that has to politically out maneuver self serving, manipulative, career ecclesiastics that infest the Vatican. I'm also very curious to find out what motivates the young Pope. What is his back story? I think this will turn out to be a great series. So far it seems like the young Pope is symbolic of God, even though he does not believe in God, because he is trying to make his vision of the world reality. Or not. I only saw one episode.
I just watched the second episode, and this show is really good so far. One of the best I've seen in a while. I hope it keeps up.
Glad you enjoyed it as much as I, WB. I think it has lots of potential. Next two episodes air tonight and tomorrow night. Looking forward to seeing where it goes.
