Sorry Americans but this is about Australia I just loved this story about the Silo Artist and the effect on the town where he has done the paintings http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-03-...ist-guido-van-helten-finishes-project/8380546 that is street art that makes a difference As you all know I live rural and remote and at one time some wag painted one of the local substations like the Tardis. I often wonder if I should sneak out one night refresh the paint and put a cardboard cut out of a Dalek next to it - if it would increase the tourism here - lols!!
Hi Bb, I live rural as well. Yes we could do with many things, as I witnessed a decline in people living rural over the years. What has changed is that a lot of houses are used by city slickers for holiday purposes, but not for living rural. When we first came to our town some twenty years back, the primary school had just over 100 children. It is down now to around 55. The main problem is inconsistent work and the extraordinary high living costs associated with country living (fuel at higher prices, many ks to travel, groceries at higher prices and so on). Regards
it looks fantastic! I love it, just beautiful and the children are a great choice. Yes if we're going to place concrete monstrosities all over the place by all means decorate them artfully
And those prices are nothing compared to what some of the indigenous communities pay for fresh vegetables - try $30 for a head of lettuce And yes there is now programs to assist them to grow thier own. And the problem is that the "hobby form" is one more unproductive farm that used to produce agricultural goods
Agreed - this is something that will stand for years to come. But I love that it has slowed the tourists through the town. Many towns up here have free camping sites over the "dry season" because they know those grey nomads will spend money in the town Not the only town doing it either http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/vi...h/news-story/367d9068061458158e0b038f527e7dff
I didn't know about the free camping, it's actually a shame country Australia have to work so hard for their tourists, wonder of Australia tourism is doing enough to promote remote areas. I'm also in a tourism area but being close to Melbourne it's a whole different scenario, too many tourists especially January.
Karumba doubles its population come dry season. Hoping this year to get to Burketown in November I would love to see the "Morning Glory" Maybe I will just save up and take a plane trip
B you are educating me, never heard of the Morning Glory it looks incredible, have you ever seen it from the air?
