& so the headline is misleading - yes, the NDP included a voter registration card in the aid packages they assembled. However, the packages are taken apart & only the appropriate items go to refugees - & since refugees can't vote in US elections, the registration card won't be distributed to them. & the registration card itself makes clear that only US citizens can vote in US elections.

Yes, an orientation to voting in the US would have been more appropriate - which may have been the intent with the registration card, as that likely contains a brief description of the process. That description probably centers on the mechanics of how to register, however - not appropriate for a refugee, who needs to gain citizenship first.

 

They don't - the NDP solicited & assembled baskets for distribution to refugees. However, the NDP doesn't give the baskets directly to refugees; they forward them to a couple (2?) agencies that allocate the baskets out to refugees. & the recipient agencies disassemble the baskets, & distribute to refugees whatever is useful or helpful for refugees - which doesn't include a voter registration card, because a refugee can't vote.

If you bore through the URL to Fox News, & check the URL contained there, you eventually get to this key bit of information. It's best to actually read the stuff that's posted, unless you already know the material.

 

Nah, the NDP doesn't hand the aid baskets directly to refugees. They go to aid centers, which disassemble the baskets & distribute what's useful to refugees - which wouldn't include voter registration cards, as refugees can't vote.

No they can't vote.. Every voter registration in every state explains that you have to document your US citizenship.

 

The Dems in this community routinely give welcome baskets to newcomers and they are made up in batches in advance. Obviously refugees can't vote so it was probably an oversight. This is the same welcome basket that would be given to a new resident from Ohio or Indiana, etc.

Don't be silly. Most immigrants work very hard to build a new life, learn English and assimilate.. They always have. I have friends whose parents were Eastern European Jews. ..They were forbidden to speak Yiddish in the home.. or any other language other than English.

 

Non-citizens can vote in numerous lower level elections in the US. Legal residency is the only requirement for many elections and for things like votes on bond issues in many places in the US.

 

Not all the radical left fools are on the east and west coasts. It is quite apparent we have some here in the fly over country too.

Which requires an ID correct, so what all the fuss about having to show that same ID at the ballot box to insure you ARE the person registered under that indentity?
