They were a different breed back then. Tough when they needed to be, and understood things like Honor and Integrity; both treated like quaint anachronisms today. It's interesting when you realize that the .38-40, ballistically, is nearly identical to the modern .40 S&W. The more things change....
I like the Glock 17 (I own two) and they get used a great deal... and I can flatly state that most women find it too large in their hands. My wife is not a tiny woman, and she finds stock Glocks uncomfortable and the trigger reach overly long. I have a Glock 19 that has had a custom grip reduction done to it, and that one she can use fine.
Glock makes a 380 for those smaller ladies. That's what I will probably recommend for my sister. She used to be anti-gun in a big way. But now her hubby is getting old and decrepit and she feels vulnerable to strangers finally. So she wants a gun of her own. All my guns are too powerful and big for her. She already asked me about that.
I attended a middle school graduation for a family member yesterday. Probably about 300 students in attendance. They gave out "awards" to all who participated in music clubs, art clubs, spelling bee participants, environmental club, chorus club, and several others. They made up stuff I've never heard of so that every student went home with an "award". They said at the beginning of the ceremony that the school had such great students that everyone earned an "award". There was not one award that was for academic achievement. Nothing that would set the achievers apart from the rest. These were not "awards". They were participation certificates. Our schools have become so politically correct, that they won't recognize achievement and would rather award participation. It's no wonder why we are raising a generation of entitled kids with no motivation to become self sufficient. Academia is failing our children. They are indoctrination them to embrace political correctness which we all know includes being anti gun.
Both my girls, both under 100lb's, in their teens shot my 1911's well and could field strip and clean them. They also liked shooting my Roger BlackHawk .44 mag. I don't sell women short on the size of the load they can shoot, but some guns are more comfortable in some hands for them..for me as well.
Schools give the public what it wants. No one rolled tanks onto campus and told administrators that now everyone is getting a trophy. Parents demand it. Don't blame the schools or academia for giving the people what they want.
I have said many times. If liberals control academia (or the media) then it is because conservatives are too weak and powerless to do anything about it. No liberal controls academia at the point of a gun. The thing is....I don't believe the IF is true.
It's not only in Academia (schools and universities), its in Hollywood, all of pop culture, and nearly all the media outlets. You can't defeat a widespread ideology through politics. This was many years in the making and it won't be reversed overnight.
They hate it because academics rely on facts. ANd facts are the more guns there are, the more chances of gun related deaths. MOre people armed, more deaths. Owning a gun increases your likelihood of being shot significantly. And they also know the science of human nature, how emotions such as anger can make people to act like animals and not think things through. Giving them a gun or access to so many guns will lead to unnecessary deaths. And there are more liberals in academia because academia is about facts, evidence, logical thinking. And all that supports liberal positions far more than conservative positions. This is why often you see paragraph arguments by liberals, and one or two liner statement of so called "fact" followed by deflection, with little to back it up.
And this is why more guns are being sold that ever before in history and firearm homicide have been trending down for the past 30 years. Stats prove one thing unequivocally in light of these facts, more guns have not led to more gun deaths.
There is no king "giving people what they want". Both conservatives and liberals have been moving more to the left for the past 50 years. This is a case of liberal politicians becoming more extreme to the left, and the conservative right moving the same direction to not appear to be extreme from the opposing party.
If people are moving toward the left again they are doing so because that is what they want. No one forces anyone
Well to be clear we have the most guns and the most gun deaths of any first world nation so there is that....
I have often been amazed how few people have learned to be self sufficient, learned critical thinking, and even basic problem solving. Or, how many people are afraid of trying something and failing. When I interview people for tech jobs I find myself sifting for those attributes .... I can teach tech to the right candidates... teaching the basic skills is not as easy.
A claim that has not been proven as accurate. FBI statistics hold otherwise. Despite the number of privately owned firearms going up, firearm-related accidents have gone down drastically. Such as how operating a motor vehicle increases the likelihood of being involved in a motor vehicle-related incident? What percent amounts to significantly with regard to the above? Two percent? Five percent? Ten percent? One hundred percent? What is the baseline risk someone has of being shot if a firearm is not owned? Unsupportable nonsense intended to appeal to emotion rather than coherent thought. Even more unsupportable nonsense than the previous statement on the part of yourself. Such has not been viewed here on these forums. Rather the direct opposite has been witnessed.
It's controlled by something more powerful than a gun; money. I know, I was a professor for years at WIU and the UWM. It is far more cutthroat than most realize and the competition for grants and funding drives research and often, findings and results. The topic is often discussed on another forum I follow, as is how the quest for funding impacts dishonesty in science. https://www.physicsforums.com/ Make no mistake, there has been a leftist agenda for decades and whether you adhere to the line determines your success in acquiring funding. After I left academia, over a disagreement on my teaching methods (I taught students to challenge conventional thinking, be critical thinkers and problem solvers not adhere to a particular doctrine) I found more opportunities to follow the lines of study I was interested in following and still feed myself. I refused to be told how and what to teach, particularly when it had nothing to do with my discipline. And, now, I find many of my studies are followed in academia and cited. I am on a new quest in that regard and talking to interested private organizations on my current vector. It's far more honest than is the academic world.
1993-2016, gun-related murders and gun related crime fell 55% 1993-2016, the number of guns in the US increased by scores of millions - perhaps as many as 100 million. How can you be right? Ironic, as most liberal arguments - virtually all of them regarding guns - are fallacious appeals to emotion, ignorance and/or dishonesty.
The reality is that the left is following the classic Marxist tactic of subverting the existing system of education and bullying those who fight back by slandering and defaming them. "Repeat the lie often enough and it becomes the truth." We see textbooks that have rewritten history, or even conveniently deleted it. I found it interesting, when I was cleaning out my parents' house after my father passed away, to find two Civics textbooks; they were different editions of the same book, separated by thirty years. The earlier one had an involved and in-depth analysis of the differences between a Democracy and a Constitutional Republic, and explaining how we were the latter, not the former; the second had that entire section expunged. Education, knowledge, and critical thinking are completely necessary for one to make informed decisions, so I am not anti-education, but the reality is that today's Academia is not about education; it's about indoctrination. The American people are being programmed to accept governmental control over their lives and to accept the usurpation of their rights and freedoms in the name of "security". Read the arguments of people like Latherty, or Vegas Giants. It's all about them stating haughtily how we have to accept infringements upon our rights and we have to accept our freedoms being restricted in the name of the collective; classic Marxist/authoritarian talk. Sadly, we have had a myriad of infringements upon our Liberty that the American people, browbeaten by their "educators" to thinking they have to accept because we're a "democracy" and "majority rules" and blah, blah, blah, have tolerated being shoved down their throats. The poster Sampson Simpson's post is a perfect display of the arrogant self-righteousness of the Left, as they proclaim their words are all about Facts and Logic when in reality their words are about propaganda, falsehoods, indoctrination, and a desire to find things based on emotionalism instead of the "facts" they proclaim are the basis of their irrationality.
Indeed. Bucking the foul liberal wind blowing through the halls of academia is a good way to lower your GPA
