http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/police-dead-mississippi-shooting-47689143 He killed 8 people. Guns make it easy to kill people in the heat of the moment without prior preparation. I doubt he would have succeeded in killing so many if people if he had been only armed with a knife. According to medical journals, a gunshot wound is more likely to result in a fatality than a knife wound. Knives also allow the intended victim more of a chance to get away. You may be able to outrun a knife wielding attacker, but you can't outrun a bullet.
Can't outrun a rental truck or fire either, evidently. What gun control do you think would have stopped this?
The purpose of a truck is to transport people. The purpose of a gun is to kill. I think it's too soon to definitively say what form of gun control could have prevented this. We need more information.
I think the purpose of a gun theory has been disproven enough here, or we'd have 300 million murders a year. Yet here you are.
By that logic, the purpose of a nuclear bomb can't be to kill and blow things up because many nuclear bombs are not used for that purpose each year.
What other purposes are nuclear bombs put to? Guns are used for target practice, sport shooting, competition and simple plinking orders of magnitude more often than to kill.
What if he bought it from another criminal, stole it or got it through a straw purchase, which are the most common ways that criminals acquire their guns?
I love how slanted the OP title was He wants to smear gun owners because a convicted felon-who wanted suicide by cop-did this however, this thread shows how stupid some gun laws are. the guy was determined to die. so maybe the OP can tell us what exactly would deter this guy from getting a gun?
Nationwide gun registration would substantially reduce straw purchases. Someone would think twice about purchasing a gun for another person if they knew there would be a permanent record of the transaction.
How do other countries prevent criminals from obtaining guns? Why do they have much lower gun crime rates?
why do you post crap that anyone with an IQ above that of a banana knows is false? the purpose of guns are to shoot bullets. Some guns are designed for military or defensive use and yes, many of them will be used against other humans. But most of the guns sold in the USA are not sold for the purpose, nor acquired for the intent, of killing people tell me-given your vast expertise on firearms-what the purpose of these firearms are -in other words what sort of person buys these firearms and who are these firearms marketed to?
"California’s regulatory policies were associated with a decreased incidence of anonymous, undocumented gun sales and illegal straw purchases at gun shows." http://injuryprevention.bmj.com/content/13/3/150 What is California doing right? The answers are out there but some people would prefer to keep burying their heads in the sand.
you are just making that up and its not going to happen. its already a felony to do a straw purchase and we don't need registration to punish a straw purchaser. You want registration so guns can be confiscated in the future
do you realize how silly it is to compare countries where commoners were killed for owning guns with a country where almost anyone could own a gun since the day the country was founded? Those other countries don't have constitutional freedoms as well.
No, I want to increase gun purchaser accountability. Confiscation has nothing to do with (unless you commit a serious crime).
Straw purchases are already against the law federally. What do you propose? A strongly worded letter?
the only pattern I see is dishonesty from the BM members. like trying to pretend that the way to stop someone willing to die is to harass law abiding gun owners
if you are a felon and you purchase a firearm, you are subject to 5-15 years in federal prison. that sounds like plenty of accountability to me why do you BM members think that only a felon in possession, among all the felonies (and this is one of the lowest in terms of actual harm caused to society) requires prior restraint?
have you noticed a complete avoidance of my questions to him concerning his claims that guns are made to kill and his lack of proof that the California idiocy actually CAUSED crime to decrease
