Hello from Florida. I´m interested in politics considering what is going in the country recently after Mr. Trump took the lead. Currently, my eyes are on the withdrawal from Paris Climate Agreement and secret communication with Russia investigation. I think I am in the right place here, the forum looks hot.
What about ? The usual laissez faire, never gave them a thought. http://www.politicalforum.com/index.php?threads/is-it-true-part-deux.495478/
Welcome. I'm always grateful for Florida. Without Florida, there's no where to park our cruise ships. So thank you.
Hi mate, we British conquered Florida you know, otherwise you'd still be living in wigwams and scalping each other.. Below- Gary Cooper carrying on the good work in 'Distant Drums' settling the Seminoles hash and it served them right, they'd had Florida for thousands of years and hadn't built a single golf course or theme park in all that time..
Hi Snownator. Shouldn't you be out golfing or fishing or something? Fellow Floridian here, born and raised. Welcome to the forum.
Welcome to the nuthouse! Please stop by the bar if/when you need a break... no politics allowed there. www.politicalforum.com/index.php?threads/smarties-bar-grill-68.503630/
The British traded for Florida, there was no conquering unless you are talking about conquering Havana and trading it to Spain for Florida.
The last I heard, English is spoken in Florida, not Spanish or French or Klingon or Seminole, so what more proof do you need that it was us English who took over Florida just like we took over half the world and taught them to speak it too.. Heck English was even the first language to be spoken on another world, the moon, not bad eh?..
I think it has been a while since you got any update on Florida language status. The state is completely bilingual.
I think you are confusing Britain with Spain. Considering my French origin and the1216 invasion of England by France, here is something back to you, my friend.
Will not deny that English is the spoken language. I was only pointing out that the British traded for Florida. They conquered Havana, which was a major Spanish port, then traded Havana for Florida. It was a trade. Don't get offended; I didn't mean to get you upset. I also am aware that at one time the sun never set on the British Empire. My ancestors came from Britain, so in a way, I am British, Irish and a bit more of a mixture of northern Europe. My hat is off to the British but also to the British who ventured to settle the colonies. We still love Britain. We like our independence better. In Miami, you need to speak Spanish to get along.
Welcome to the forums! The software doesn't want me to type "fora" the proper latin plural, but sometimes it gives up. With Haitian creole, much of the state is tri-lingual.
I referenced Jackson executing Brits in Spanish Florida. Louisiana is American since Thomas Jefferson bought it. Jackson prevented Brit invasion of American property. Back to Florida now. I prefer Southern California. Florida does have the unique history of messing up 2 Presidential elections. Hayes / Tilden and Bush / Gore. A distinction no other State has. Moi r > g Andy Jackson needed now more than ever.
Google (below) says English is the first language of Florida, so who's right, you or Google? "Almost 77% of Florida's residents speak English as their first language. Spanish is spoken by less than 17%. Other languages are French and Haitian Creole, German, Italian, Portuguese, Tagalog, Arabic, and Vietnamese" http://www.answers.com/Q/What_language_is_mostly_spoken_in_Florida
The Spanish, French and British squabbled over Florida for a time, but it became British when we bought it from Spain, that's why you're speaking English now.. WIKI- "In 1763, Spain traded Florida to the Kingdom of Great Britain for control of Havana, Cuba" As the history books rightly say about the New World- "The Spanish went to look for gold, the French went to set up trading posts, but the English went to stay"
