This poll will tell us all a lot. I still have my Roberts Rules of Order text that i once used a lot at meetings. Congress uses rules of order and though a bit different than Roberts Rules, still explain how the system works. So, two things. Did you use the Rules? What political party do you identify with?
I've used them as a college student for student council meetings back in the 1990's. I'm a member of the Green Party of Canada.
We used them all the time....when it was convenient.....in college, but not really so much since then.
Yes, it clearly tells us that the views of us who've proudly remained independent of the corporate duopoly are most unwelcome. It strongly suggests we: Follow the rules our nasty Founding Fathers "borrowed" from those having an actual parliament Keep our noses to our better's grindstone Not rock the boat Know our place Stay out of trouble Don't go getting ideas like stirring up some revolt or anything! So? Yeah, Robert doesn't care. Piss off. Loser. Huh? Who? Me? Thought it was obvious. Registered Independent! May have used them. "I don't recall."
So, you understand how hard it is for the republicans in the US Senate to get the job done. Schumer is a roadblock, and by that I mean all the democrats are since they follow him.
Thanks to you and Greataxe for mentioning that. Normally we have no need for rules of order. Congress of the USA along with all 50 states function using rules of order. This leads to the conclusion that republicans do not entirely run the Senate. Clever Democrats making use of the Senate rules of order manage to gum things up. Any person who ever used Roberts rules had to study the rules and never forgot reading the many rules in order to manage debates.
I always found them to be a distraction mainly used by people to be heard who otherwise had nothing important to contribute. Taking several votes just to take a vote is pointless to me.
Right .... This was my major reason to post this to begin with. To show that using such Rules can be a way to block things. I have seen firsthand the rules used to prevent things. And I believe that when the rules were conceived, that is what they intended. A good education for posters is CSPAN where they can watch the pig being killed and cut into bacon and pork chops.
effective legislation for one thing. Dismantle existing laws and regulations, such as the entire Dodd Frank law
Thanks. Amazingly, I'm for effective legislation too. Not really so amazing. I think everyone is. Actually though, "entire"ly dismantling existing regulations suggests destructive rather than constructive or "effective" legislative intent.
