    Speaking of 100%.

I heard this not in my that 100% of Illinois tax receipts go to pensions.

I can't Google tha that while driving.

This is largely about pensions. Pensions and more pensions. The problems in Illinois started decades ago and has been ignored.

What hurts more is the fact that too many retirees take those generous pensions, relocate and spend them elsewhere.

They stayed in Illinois because the incomes were good and the pension promises were even better, then they leave.

That's how Oregon and Washington are too.... basically conservative states if you get outside of the Portland and Seattle corridors.

Yeah, basically if you go to where there are no people you find conservatives.

How dare they work their entire lives - 40 years, many - and then pick up
and move as though they had the right to spend their own money anyway
    and anywhere they pleased!

It appears they have stolen all they can from their productive citizens so the flow of money and bribes (goodies) used to buy votes and maintain power. The result, chaos and eventually demands the feds save their butts.

California suffers from the same thing. There will be a Pension Tsunami in the near future. Then there will be a whole lot of unhappy people when they are "re-negotiated".

yip. I have some retired Chicago teachers in my family (and several retired FL teachers too)
    The payouts are "impressive"
< I guess that's a nice way to put it from the taxpayers perspective.

I heard on the radio yesterday that Illinois pension obligations = 100% of tax revenue, but haven't been able to confirm that on google
(didn't try very hard honestly, I quit after 30 seconds because I hope its not true)

That is exactly what the new gas and registration hike is about. I just bought a new pickup truck and after this takes effect, my registration will be $1000 year.

I hear ya. I drive a crummy old 2001 car that's mechanically sound so I give those creeps in Sacramento as little as possible. If you can support the recall of state Sen. Josh Newman representing District 29. If you live in that district sign the recall petition, if not try to make a donation to the recall effort.

Not my district either, but it's worth a small donation to get rid of the Democrats 2/3rds majority in Sacramento.

    WOW.... That's California?
    $32 in Florida...$15 for a boat.
I always figured it was this high because we don't have a state income tax (lol)
I doubt you want to compare property taxes either

But hey... one bonus in Illinois that never gets discussed,,, Cold azz winters and free muggings!

In California a pickup is a commercial vehicle and you pay by the gross weight rating, plus the value of the vehicle. You can escape the commercial part if you put a shell on it but you better not get caught hauling a shovel back there. A 1971 pinto will run you about $80 bucks before the hike takes place.

Sure, sure. But the Republicans are clearly not in charge and clearly not the source of the spending fetish.

Ill and Chicago is the poster child of what happens when democrats are in charge for a long time. They cause a total break down of government, and drive it into bankruptcy.

I thought the right believed they should give huge tax cuts to the rich and that would fix everything, trickle down hasn't worked yet, let's try it for another 10 years....

He is. Elected after the Democrat - Quinn - failed spectacularly. I posted about it very recently: the comparison of Illinois vs Wisconsin.

What do you think Rauner can do if everyone else is a Democrat?

Illinois did that. 67%. It failed, and Illinois is now bleeding taxpayers. Next idea?

What did Wisconsin - which found itself in the exact same predicament as Illinois in 2010 - do?

Hillary didn't get elected and Illinois voted against Trump.

Just look at the date on the article and the last paragraph. A "$460-million plunge in sales taxes and a $349-million drop in personal income taxes", why do they think that is? Consumers are buying less and items mail order from out of state. The folks that are paying the taxes to support those who don't are moving out of state to where they won't get hammered on tax day. The left thinks the answer to wild over spending like on public workers Caddillac pensions and benefits packeages is simply raise taxes on those who actually pay the taxes. The taxpayers (as opposed to the takers) are voting with moving vans. I can't wait for that state to crash and burn.
