"Less government" and "freedom" claimed by Libertarians will, in the long run simply result in more wealth in the hands of the few. As wealth accumulated in the hands of fewer people, the less the economic decisions of the greater number of people matter. What evolves is a neo-feudal, private state, which inevitably seeks to choke the public state in order to replace it. It is no coincidence that the super rich so often tend toward libertarianism: they see themselves as the cream of the crop and want to govern the unwashed masses. Their approach to doing this is to privatize everything and reduce the size of government to where they can wrap their claws around its neck and control it. That's what's happening now. The government isn't "elites ruling over us", it is us, collectively, self-governing: inherently it is us standing against the desires of the Kochs, and those like them, becoming a feudal state.
Perhaps you can explain what others have failed to: How does the exorbitant wealth of my filthy-rich neighbor, impede in any meaningful way, my ability to generate my own wealth?
Not only that, but more wealth does equate to more spending and economic advancements. It's safe to assume that the majority of people with a substantial amount of disposable income do not just sit on it.
In 1970 the average CEO made 29 times what the average person made, today it's well over 296 times. The issue isn't that people are rich, it's that money is increasingly going to a smaller percentage of people.
They do? Perhaps the Kochs. I can't think of anyone else. Some claim to but really are more on the conservative side of things. Maybe you can name some for us. Big government is more corrupt. Regulatory capture and wealth transfer is far easier with a large, bureaucratic government. There's far more money to be gained from a state that sucks up the productivity of the middle and lower classes. You seriously think the government is getting smaller? The Federal register has never shrunk. It grows year by year. That's a fantasy perpetrated by your would-be rulers to maintain complacent tax-cattle. Ironically, by demanding more government, you play right into their hands. You demand your morals be shoved down the throats of others and then wonder when the powerful subjugate you and give you very little of what you want for what they take.
you should look at how many of those support globalist causes that affect your everyday worker. Probably almost all of those rich people. If you are worried about the small guy, you are fighting the wrong battle. Globalists make it worse.
and how does stealing wealth at gun point for another crippling welfare program makes things better rather than worse?
1) as long as that happens under capitalism that is a good thing. If you invent something like an affordable smart phone that makes everyone richer you can be very rich too. 2) Also, violent liberal govt does not need to steal fron the rich at gunpoint anyway since the rich give most of their money to charity anyway and the charities are going to be more efficient than govt with the money which is why Gates/Buffett etc spent it themselves. 3) Also,in America it is illegal to discriminate against the rich by taxing them more. We are all equal here. 4) if tax and spend on welfare worked we would have fewer poor rather then more poor crippled by the liberal's welfare scams
Can I purchase all of the media and report only what I think is news? Is that a good thing? I call BS: 5.9% is the highest percentage and that's for people making over $10 million. People why have highly paid accountants and who leverage the benefits of charitable giving. Whatever the motivation, 5.9% isn't the "rich give most of their money" No, we aren't, the rich have a significant advantage. Think of it like the race track at the Olympics. You know how they stagger the start for races of more than 1 lap? Would you say that's unfair that the person on the outside get's to start much farther up and the person on the insde? Would you say this is unfair? They aren't starting out equal, the goal here is to give each an opportunity to finish without anyone having an unfair advantage. If somone "wins" it will be on their hard work, not on the advantage that comes from being born wealthy. For you James...
If you purchased all the media and reported only liberal news you would create more Donald trumps and FOXNews channels. Do you understand how capitalism works
When the rich die they give most of their wealth to charity rather than let a very very in efficient government get their hands on it and waste it . Therefore it is a bad idea to allow the government to tax the rich
Being born wealthy, intelligent, good looking, athletic, ambitious, hard-working, musical is a natural event we do not want a Nazi government To rehearse natural events. We believe in science and evolution not perfectly ignorant liberal Nazi scams
Why is that a problem? You act like they are stealing it when really they are getting it by enriching other people with the great products they sell
The John Birch Society also favors "less government" which is also their mantra for dismantling government. They are crazy. As are "libertarians".
Russia and China -- two nations who would gladly conquer the USA -- maintain strong central governments. Therefore the USA must also maintain a strong central government in order to (1) protect the American people and (2) oppose the Russian and Chinese governments. No choice.
the influence that money gives affects the decisions made by our government. Gerrymandering, right down to your local city council. The voices of those with money have greater influence than those without. Hard to believe this is even a question.
None of those have anything to do with my rich neighbor and his fleet of gold plated Ferrari's. All of those have to do with corruption of governance. Just because my neighbor can "buy a councilman" to make his path easier does not mean that his buying of that councilman has made mine any harder. My rich neighbor has not impeded, in any meaningful way, my own journey to personal wealth... or yours.
