https://www.washingtonpost.com/amph...ether-a-15-minimum-wage-really-helps-workers/ We warned the Democrats that they hurt the economy doing things like this. We gave them plenty of examples. Today we must give them one more example of failed Democratic party foibles. Now will Democrats back down from their policy of getting workers fired? I know this wants to be discussed. We need to shock Democrats out of the spiral they are in.
Those effects are to be expected. The minimum wage is based on the poverty level, whatever that number happens to be. For an expensive city like Seattle, $15 sounds about right. Any business operating in the Seattle market that claims they can't afford to pay $15/hr when most other businesses there are paying well more than that is either lying or incompetent. Either way they deserve to die and make room for more efficient businesses.
So what should we do??? Set minimum wage to $5 and demand a 40 hour work week for Government benefits??? In other words legalize slavery?
More efficient business can sustain itself, due to the higher minimum wage, along with higher prices to the consumer, which translates into lower sales, which translates into less unnecessary employment. The low wage is a learning wage, not an earning wage. If, as in California, a living wage is $150,000 per year, then a high minimum wage can work, because it does not infringe on the wage of skilled workers, who, otherwise, will demand a significant wage increase due to their skill. If they don't get it, they may leave, underperform, or be disruptive.
