We need to take lessons from Australia. We learn from their many mistakes. We seem to have exported Gore there so he can take their money from them. Each trip taken by Gore amounts to hundreds of normal people carbon dioxide footprint. But he flies about seeking more and more wealth. We do not believe he flies to those places for other than money. https://townhall.com/columnists/pau...tm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nl&newsletterad=
Australia used to be respected, Americans thought of Australians as independent, strong willed, proud, intelligent. In the late 1980's until the early 2000's, anything Australia was a big hit in the USA. Now, with the their gun bans and war on cash and global warming scam and PC lunacy and their surrender to global government, Americans look at Australia with pity and a sense of loss. Any nation that wants to succeed should look at Australia and do the opposite.
Being liked by ill informed people for ill informed reasons is exactly the same as being disliked by ill informed people for ill informed reasons. Neither matters. I have spent around 4 decades regularly communicating with Americans. Some are family, some are friends. I have traveled extensively in the US & had many conversations with Americans about Australia. I have Australian born friends & family who have lived in the US & even become US citizens. What shines through from our collective experience is how little Americans know about Australia. It rarely extends past a few vaguely remembered things they saw in the media or read on Wikipedia. it was usually so very far from the truth that it was almost comedic. This applies across the political spectrum. Americans seem to just use Australia as a space into which they project their own political ideas and then claim 'proof' of something. Americans have many fine qualities. Being informed about the outside world is not among them.
I assumed anything factual I had to say would be a waste of time. This thread isn't about Australia, its about Americans. There is already a thread that covers some of this in the 'Australia' section. That got invaded by American trolls too, but it has some better information than the article above.
The article refers to South Australia, two tornados destroyed critical infrastructure, which led to the power system protecting itself with a shutdown. It took hours to restore from backup generators, they are now going ahead with Elon Musk's battery solution of storing renewable energy for back up usage...and certainly not going back to coal the likes of which your article is promoting. I'm in Victoria, we have solar panels and save thousands of dollars every year on electricity bills... I wouldn't call that a mistake.
No it is about how right wing american idiocy masquerading as "journalism" in sucker sites like "Townhall" can get things completely backarsewards
I don't really care about Australia. As long as whatever they do doesn't effect me, they can do what they want, and I couldn't care less.
Just another propoganda piece written for uninformed idiots. If I were fro. Australia I would be offended. One example...do hospitals in OZ not have backup generators? Also..power outages happen no matter where you live.
So, Australia because of energy choices didn't suffer doodlum squat? No problems? Which means there is no basis for the article? Kinda hard to believe someone would have went so in depth on energy issues with all of it being agenda driven propaganda. One wonders who the uninformed idiots are here? Either Australia had some problems arise due to energy policy and choices, or they did not and the OP are liars liars pants on fire. So which is it? If they did have some problems, the uninformed idiots are those who are in denial over any such problems. So which is it?
That in general is a myth. A corporation is not a particular set of humans, those humans change over time. Henry Ford long ran his corporation and did marvelous things for the world. His Model T took people off horses and gave them the essentials of the current transportation system. Yet when he died and his executives died, the corporation ran like a well oiled clock. It means as much to say corporate greed as it does greed by the Australian government. Do you believe government is greedy?
Frankly, i am shocked that over the past 20 plus years, the youth born in Australia well past my own birth have changed to "socialists." Was it England that did it to them? What happened to the rugged sheep herder?
You know, I have traveled all over America. True I still am missing a few of the states. But I saw enough to know that America is not one community. I never expected Australia to be one type of person. I note that it is Australian problems we need to discuss. Lord knows, some of them haunt this forum and with little for them to go on, want to decide the politics of the USA. Don't they have kangaroo to catch or a Koala to hug?
There is nothing wrong with Townhall. We must have a mixture of views to sort things out. Bashing one or more of sources does not hint your own sources are accurate. How does it feel to come here to find your country being discussed? We get you discussing this country daily. I consider this fair turnabout.
OKay,. I consider this to be a fair argument. We need to dig into Australia just as hard as some of their citizens dig into the USA to learn their mistakes. We too have messed up with solar and wind installations. Coal has an advantage few others have. First it is 24/7 for 365 days. When it is dark, coal works fine. When the wind stops, coal is there to save you. Somehow the whack jobs made Coal the enemy. Frankly what comes to us cheaper? When you count up the failed solar and wind, coal looks better.
This came to you via: http://www.cfact.org/ I notice but one of you seems willing to discuss such events taking place in Australia. And wish to attack the messenger that keeps up with many sources.
By the way, i would say Gore parlayed his greed into a huge fortune. And lives with the highest of all of us. He lacks no luxury.
Everyone suffers energy problems no matter what choice they make in the generation of the energy. But the op is agenda driven propoganda.
Your concept is correct - but backwards. Americans used to have little knowledge of Australia, it was the "land down under" of Crocodile Dundee and Steve Erwin, it looked like a younger version of the USA. And of course that idea was promoted by the AUS travel bureaus. Americans projected their ideas onto a largely blank canvas of Australia. Now its different. Americans in general don't have personal contact with Australia, but thanks to the internet Americans know something of Australia. And the Australian myth has been burst. Australia is not a younger, robust version of the USA, full of independent people, its just an offshoot of socialized PC crazy Europe.
Your myth, not mine. Virtually everything Americans say about Australia is myth, as evidenced by your last sentence. You know so close to nothing about Australia as to be functionally the same. The little you do read, like the article in the OP, is about American ideology, not Australian realities. Thus it is basically worthless, as are any opinions based on such sources. I have spent most of my life paying close attention to American politics, history & society (I blitz online citizenship tests - rarely less than 95%). I don't expect Americans to know anywhere near that much about my nation, but I'm perfectly happy to have discussions about my country with people who are either well informed or willing to learn. I have been fortunate to encounter some Americans who fit at least one of those criteria. Unfortunately they are a tiny minority. Most Americans seem actively hostile to learning anything about other nations that fails to reinforce their own prejudices. I see no evidence you or the OP are any different.
