So you want to reduce the number of appeals that death row inmates can persue? I totally understand the frustration, but I also think that we should make sure people who are sentanced to death have every opportunity to prove thmeselves innocent. I only say this because we have had many cases where people who were in prison for decades ended up being innocent, and later released. Its a reality that America has put innocent people to death as it is. We should do everything in our power to prevent that.
Granted we have executed people who were innocent. Same token we have released people who should not have been released. People who have killed before and in some cases have killed again. It's far from a perfect system and I agree that in the cases of capitol offenses people should have every chance to prove their innocence. However my biggest gripe is the fact that there are people who are on Death Row who have exhausted their appeals and still wait years for their execution.
Before we decide to expand the death penalty, we should apply the laws that we have as they were intended to be applied. So we should clean out all death rows of those awaiting the big sleep. After that's done we will be able to access its successes/failures and decide if the laws should be changed. Waiting ten or 20 years on Death Row is an insult to justice and victims.
