In the city where I live there's a lot of homeless people, many of them are young homeless people. There are articles written about homelessness but I think sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words. I found this young guy sleeping under a tree, about 1:00 in the daytime. If anyone isn't convinced that he's actually homeless, look at the cardboard sign next to him. I really think economic factors play at least a big part. Local cost of housing has been going up over the last 5 years and the job opportunities in this region of the country are not really the best (I see older people working in most entry level job positions). I was at lunch sitting at a table outside under a shade umbrella and overheard three moms at another table talking about their young adult children. Two of the moms help their daughters with rent, even though each one lives in a house with several other roommates. One of these moms said her daughter works full time. Not the easiest for young people to try and go off living on their own these days.
An idea: Every town should have a permanent camp, something like a Roman castrum, where the homeless could be given housing. There should be communal kitchen, bathing, and laundry facilities. Each individual (or family) would be assigned a dwelling unit. So they would basically be housed and fed on the public dime. This way, nobody who wanted food and shelter would be left to die on the street. I would prefer such a system to our current system of cash welfare payments.
Why in hell aren't these parents providing a home for their young adult children? Why 'help out with rent' when the kids could live with you rent free?
LOL. Do away with welfare and your camp is gonna have to be mighty big since a third of the state of california alone is on it. What you say makes some sense, but that is not how it ends up working in reality. Crack Daddy who has lured Baby Momma into becoming Crack Momma will pawn everything and move into your shelter and sell crack and steal and prostitute and whatever else while crack kids wander around because you just made it easier for them to be addicts now that they don't have to worry about keeping a roof over their heads.
Homelessness is almost always a lifestyle choice in our rich, western nations. Granted, a kid could be kicked out at 16 (ftr, anyone who kicks a 16 year old should be arrested and jailed for child abuse), but there are plenty of welfare agencies/institutions obliged to house minors. Adults are eligible for welfare, and no one who is a reasonable and functional human being is going to have zero family or friends willing to help. This leads us to the only possible conclusion .. homeless people are a@@h0les, insane, or addicts. Or all three. Even in the case of insanity, there are institutions dedicated to the care of the crazy. And why would family/friends abandon their crazy relative, unless the crazy relative is also an a@@h0le. Addicts have no one to blame but themselves. I see these bleeding heart missives about the 'poor homeless folk of California', and laugh. Why would any even remotely sensible person choose the most expensive state (housing wise) in the nation to live in if they're impoverished? How flipping dare they deliberately live in a place they can't afford, then blame others for their problems. They should go to some backwater where houses can be bought for $5k, lobby the local welfare agency for a 'grant' to get back on their feet and start a small home-based business, and presto .. they're home owners. But no ... these little shiitterz want to be were the action is.
And sometimes that's a reasonable response to a horrible home life. BUT, while kids are still minors there are agencies which must provide housing etc. If this kid chooses not to avail himself of the infrastructure designed to help those like him, he's an idiot.
Obviously, those who abuse the charity offered would be ejected. Also, with no alcohol, tobacco, drugs, flat screen TVs, or X-Boxes, these castra would certainly be livable but not desirable. It would give people an incentive to better themselves and move up in life.
So instead of posting this , why didn't you pay it forward? you were there you could of helped him out personally.. instead you took pictures.. .
No one wants rules, that's not in the Constitution..the rules you want is slavery/ a dictator ship..do you blame him for not wanting to follow your "rules" .
And you can tell that all from a picture? Reminds me of that GOP legislator who "diagnosed" Terry Schiavo from a video and pronounced that she was responsive - after she died, they looked at her brain - she was somewhere between a cabbage and a rutabaga. Tell you what - think of the poor kid as a fetus....
no, think of him as a victim of a liberal culture that destroyed his family, God, culture, and school. In the glory days, the Republican 1950's, it was impossible for a kid to go bad like that. the whole society was there to help him.
I don't know your age, but your statement indicates dementia has advanced. I grew up in the 50s - I saw plenty of bad kids.
all harmonious societies depend upon 'rules' for that harmony. there are always going to be misfits who believe they're entitled to an exemption, yet still entitled to benefit from the harmony produced by rule followers. 'following rules' gets us ahead in life. play the game, or perish.
well, since he lives in a rich western nation lousy with resources for relief of poverty/homelessness, yet still chooses to eschew all of them .. yes.
for example prison populations today are about 10 times what it was then. A black ghetto was a safe place today it is Chi-raq. Liberals are breaking down the family schools religion and economy. What would you expect? we didn't have 60k drug ODs and suicides then.
It doesn't look like he died, it was your choice to work with him or in your case just took pictures.. You could of helped him, but instead you just took pictures...and walked away. .
What? You could of helped him, did you take him to a restaurant and talk to him? Nope you just took pictures and trying to shame the rest of us.. while you have comfort .. That's something AL Gore would do. .
Well my apologies, but you did say the homeless guy didn't want no help.. You talked like you were a first person to this. .
Depends on why they are on the street. If it is drugs that put them there, then foster care would be a harsh to their mellow. If it were sex related (gay, incest, etc) they may be too ashamed. If it was violence related, they may fear what would happen to the other parent/children in the house or fear they will be returned to it and it will be even worse. I am not rationalizing or making excuses for them, but these might be the mindsets they are possessing that makes what you speak of easier said than done. I agree they need to avail themselves of assistance, but I also acknowledge that kind of assistance might seem worse than living on the street in their minds. I have worked with the homeless. They are not the most rational people in the world.
So they will be ejected and your cure to homelessness just created a homeless person. Seems rather self-defeating.
