    Why do you guys think so poorly of him?

    Yes the main goals of his Russia go against a lot of ours, but his moves are very intelligent. He knows nobody is going to take Crimea back, so making his people go through a decade or so of sanctions and rougher times will equal out in the end as they gain that important Port and the oil that comes along with it. The population is truly secondary.

    Sanctions are fairly obviously for the constituents at home, Russia is already pretty sanctioned out and I don't think we can do THAT much more damage than we already have. The damage done by the sanctions has been pretty thorough. Even posters like Ninian have pretty horrible stories of the changes their immediate family has had to make (which they blame on sanctions it seems)

    If the people do not rise up against the government at that point I don't htink anything further will. Maybe more time perhaps?

    Laguna Beach actually has about 200-300 ft "mountain ranges" all around it. To get in and out you have to take a small "highway" called the 133

    Anyways, as the crow flies we are smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles and San Diego and my friends and I have discussed what would happen if a bomb hit both cities. I think being 30 ish miles away, plus the previously mentioned "mountain encirclement" may actually keep us safe!

    Not really a fan of trying it out to test my hypothesis though....

    No nuclear nation has declared war on another in human history. This talk is just talk. There will be no WWIII over this. If anything, Russia can just stop being aggressive to it's neighbors, and stealing their lands, if they want sanctions to go away. The idea that the only option here, is war, is just flat ridiculous. The idea that Russia would choose mutually assured destruction, over Ukraine and Crimea, is so dumb it makes my brain hurt.

    But you are not exactly the bastion of peace as you started the thread and tried comparing trade sanctions to the fact of saying we are already at war....
