Through ABORTION! “With the rise of prenatal screening tests across Europe and the United States, the number of babies born with Down syndrome has significantly decreased,”CBS opens, “but few countries have come as close to eradicating Down syndrome births as Iceland.” https://townhall.com/tipsheet/laure...iminated-down-syndrome-with-abortion-n2368878 Eugenics......What's next? Babies that might have the wrong hair color? IMO this is horrendous.
Iceland's biggest problem in this area, however, still remains to be incest. No joke. It is actually a very big problem since the population only reaches 300k. There are special smartphone-apps people use before dating to ensure they are not cousins of some kind.
WOW.....So a father can poke his daughter and just get any growing evidence sucked down a sink. Creepy
Watch The Perfect 46. It gained wide acclaim from geneticists and other scholars. It addresses the potential to eliminate all genetic diseases by selecting sexual partners genetically. https://med.stanford.edu/news/all-n...es-ethical-dilemmas-of-genetic-screening.html
Do you have a link to the video? I really wonder if we can breed out disease. We see that even in bacteria, the more we try to eliminate it, the more resistant they become. Humans also benefit from their immune systems being challenged that is why flu shots work. But as to my OP, what do you think? Is an imperfect human any less valuable than a 'perfect' one?
I watched it on Netflix. I didn't see any links to the entire movie. It was very good - well worth watching. If a disease is genetic and that gene can be eliminated, the gene would have to occur again through mutations. Perhaps certain mutations are to be expected. After all, most occur due to RNA errors and cosmic radiation. So the idea that a disease can be absolutely eliminated through selection may be overly optimistic. It may be that the same errors or mutations will occur again and again even if eliminated. Nano robots will fix that!
Generally I am pro choice and anti abortion. I really don't like the idea of abortion being used but it is a difficult issue. There is real pain and suffering due to severe diseases and other incurable medical issues. I knew a young woman who had a baby who was deaf, blind, and severely retarded; also was hydro-cephalic. He only lived about two years and it was so so incredibly sad. She loved that baby as much as any mother could but oh my gosh, it was heartbreaking. I don't know. She went on to have several more healthy and happy children after Mikey died. One thought: I have had to put down many pets. Most got old and sick and the time came to give them their "love shot", as we used to say. And it was out of love. It was time when there was nothing left but suffering. It does come to mind that at some point, not having life may be more merciful than allowing the life to come into existence. At some point that is undeniable true.
This is where christian beliefs become problematic. They believe we are here to suffer. So my suffering or that of a baby is fine with them in the grand scheme of things.
An "imperfect " human may not be of more or less value but it does cost more...lots more... ...so being able to abort a kid that may cost more money than you have and will never be normal should always be an option.... Would you volunteer to have Downs or other permanent physical defects ? I'd hate to be the monster who condemned these fetuses to a life of pain.
I'm a strong supporter of abortion for known defects like downs. It's a public service and a compassionate thing for the fetus/child.
When it comes to the right to choose, the reason is irrelevant. Some abort to avoid stretch marks, some to avoid raising a child for 25+ years, and in this case, to avoid raising a special needs child for life. What if they agree to carry full term if you agree to take over when the baby is born?
Yes Iceland seems to have discovered how to eradicate Downs Syndrome. Oh not by some new medical breakthrough to SAVE the babies and cure the affliction. They just exterminate them all. No more Downs Syndrome. Someone thought of that before but the name escapes me. "What kind of society do you want to live in?": Inside the country where Down syndrome is disappearing ""With the rise of prenatal screening tests across Europe and the United States, the number of babies born with Down syndrome has significantly decreased, but few countries have come as close to eradicating Down syndrome births as Iceland. Since prenatal screening tests were introduced in Iceland in the early 2000s, the vast majority of women -- close to 100 percent -- who received a positive test for Down syndrome terminated their pregnancy."" Yep just eradicate them. " Many people born with Down syndrome can live full, healthy lives, with an average lifespan of around 60 years." But don't let that stop us from exterminating them from society. "When Thordis Ingadottir was pregnant with her third child at the age of 40, she took the screening test. The results showed her chances of having a child with Down syndrome were very slim, odds of 1 in 1,600. However, the screening test is only 85 percent accurate. That year, 2009, three babies were born with Down syndrome in Iceland," DAMN they let three slip through!! "including Ingadottir's daughter Agusta, who is now 7." Gotta tighten up that screen so little girls like this get exterminated. "According to Ingadottir, three babies born with Down syndrome is "quite more than usual. Normally there are two, in the last few years." Since the birth of her daughter, Ingadottir has become an activist for the rights of people with Down syndrome." Good for her. "Geneticist Kari Stefansson is the founder of deCODE Genetics, a company that has studied nearly the entire Icelandic population's genomes. He has a unique perspective on the advancement of medical technology. "My understanding is that we have basically eradicated, almost, Down syndrome from our society -- that there is hardly ever a child with Down syndrome in Iceland anymore," he said." Well DUH you exterminate them. How about Gypsy's? "Olafsdottir responded, "We don't look at abortion as a murder. We look at it as a thing that we ended. We ended a possible life that may have had a huge complication... preventing suffering for the child and for the family. And I think that is more right than seeing it as a murder -- that's so black and white. Life isn't black and white. Life is grey."" OH how self self serving. Now scroll back up and look at that little girl. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/down-syndrome-iceland/?linkId=40953194
The really disturbing thing is that sometimes those tests are wrong. Imagine you aborted your baby only to find out after it came out that it had been perfectly normal. Except they never do any verification on the dead fetus after it comes out to make sure that test was right. Wouldn't be any point in disturbing the woman. (This kind of reminds me of execution by firing squad, where they put a blank cartridge in one of the executioner's guns so they don't know who exactly carried out the execution. Apparently that helps make it easier for them, since no one knows with certainty whether they were the one who killed the condemned prisoner.) Of course, the later in the pregnancy those tests are done, the more accurate they are. But ideally you wouldn't want to wait too long giving the fetus more time to develop and grow into a baby. The sooner the better, if it's going to be done. So there are some inherent trade-offs when choosing the timing of the test and at what point in the pregnancy to get an abortion. These are dicey ethical dilemmas.
It's a baby from the getgo although that is another point of denial by those who want to kill it. Why should I consider screening for Down syndrome? Many parents-to-be worry that their developing baby may have Down syndrome or some other chromosomal abnormality. Screening tests help you assess your baby's chances of having this kind of condition. The results can help you decide whether to have invasive diagnostic testing to find out for sure about your baby's condition. https://www.babycenter.com/0_screening-for-down-syndrome_1519375.bc And noted the silence from the pro-abortion side
No response? That's because this is a duplicate thread of one posted Tuesday in this forum (DUH). Iceland 'Virtually Eliminated' Downs Syndrome RPA1, Tuesday at 6:49 PM Did you have a point? ................. besides not being able to see thread titles?
The OP is not on here 24/7 like some are , do you have something to add to the op other then try to deflect? To the poster that says the doctors could be wrong.. exactly, it happened to my daughter in the womb, the quacks said she could be a midget or down syndrome baby...and suggested my wife get an abortion. They were wrong.. .
Wouldn't it make the mothers and the state feel better if these abnormal children were just chucked off the edge of a cliff and left to die? Doesn't this directly undercut the liberal message that we must tolerate those with disabilities? How do you think this report makes folks with disabilities feel? Are they so burdensome? And isn't that the goal of socialized medicine?
What will be the next "defect" that will be eliminated as Iceland continues to their goal of the perfect race?
It takes 24 hours to check to see if the same subject is posted a few threads down? Really? Do you? Besides flamebaiting and accusing me of deflecting? What/how did I deflect anything? Oh? , doctors are wrong sometimes.....that's hardly earth shattering news...
Me flamebaiting that's what you were doing by responding to this thread to try to diminsh the OP and not contribute anything except put the poster down...once again today is Friday you said the other thread started on Tuesday and like I said not many posters are on here 24/7. Conservatives has jobs and a life outside these forums. .
Well, I can't show your flamebaiting because it seems to have been deleted ....and now you're ranting on about something that has nothing to do with the topic. Once again, did you have a point (related to the topic ) or just want to complain?
