    Liberals see racists lurking behind every corner. They think the U.S. is a nasty place, full of hate.

    Conservatives think most Americans are good, decent people. Although they acknowledge that a small portion of the population (1%? 5%?) are probably racist.

    There is perspective you're not seeing. The concept that a community in needs to be gay black lesbian or made up of immigrants is the very notion of discrimination. Community should be diverse it's the meaning of the term.

    Unity and commonality don't require everyone be the same race or have the same sexual preferences or the same country of origin just that they're unified for a common goal be that go as simple as peace and civility.

    Balkanized sub-communities are Division and derisive.

    Sullivan Ballou was killed a week later at the First Battle of Bull Run, July 21, 1861.

    Born March 28, 1829, in Smithfield, Rhode Island, Ballou was educated at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts; Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island; and the National Law School in Ballston, New York. He was admitted to the Rhode Island Bar in 1853.

    Ballou devoted his brief life to public service. He was elected in 1854 as clerk of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, later serving as its speaker. He married Sarah Hart Shumway on October 15, 1855, and the following year saw the birth of their first child, Edgar. A second son, William, was born in 1859. Ballou immediately entered the military after the war broke out in 1861. He became judge advocate of the Rhode Island militia and was 32 at the time of his death at the First Battle of Bull Run on July 21, 1861.

    When he died, his wife was 24. She later moved to New Jersey to live out her life with her son, William, and never remarried. She died at age 80 in 1917. Sullivan and Sarah Ballou are buried next to each other at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, Rhode Island. They have no known living descendants.

    Ironically, Sullivan Ballou's letter was never mailed. Although Sarah would receive other, decidedly more upbeat letters dated after the now-famous letter from the battlefield, the letter in question would be found among Sullivan's effects when Governor William Sprague of Rhode Island traveled to Virginia to retrieve the remains of his state's sons who had fallen in battle.

    My retort goes this way. Do you realize how vast the USA is? I can't tell you how many blacks get shot by the cops, but how about blacks quitting the life of crime? Ya think that might help?

    If your heros are blacks who get shot by cops, well, no idea how to help you.

    Are you saying it is impossible for anyone on the political left to be a bigot and there has never been anyone on the left who is a bigot?

    So hate and bigotry can only be Republicans and Conservatives while everyone else is just great law abiding loving citizens?

    You do know that over 90% of all black people killed are killed by other black people and the majority of black voters voted for the left Democratic party of liberals. So if you think about it your side is also pretty violent and full of hate towards other people. Bigotry is not restricted to the right leaning people of this country. You have no idea what you are talking about. It's your left media that has conned you.

    Everyone thinks the right is full of bigots and hateful people because of a few thousand KKK supporters but yet they are not the ones responsible for most of the black deaths in this country. How many people has the KKK murdered in the last 10 years? That number is probably pretty low. I would say Antifa and the far left are now more violent and dangerous than any group on the right.

    If you honestly think only a right leaning person can be a bigot than you have been brainwashed by the liberal left.

    Yet more than 90% of all black deaths are from other black people. How come nobody complains about blacks killing blacks but if a white man does it then the world is coming to an end. It's so stupid. Black people never protest about the thousands of black people killed by black people but if a blackman dies from a white police officer who is defending himself from the violent black person it is the worst crime ever and the police officer needs to be punished or so the left says. What a load of dog crap.

    I live in southern Virginia and really not sure about discriminatory practices against blacks. I do know what I see though, so, not sure what category it falls in.

    1. Our city councils are multiracial but pretty much along racial lines according to what ward one lives in.

    2. There is a good a chance of walking into a business and coming across a minority supervisor as a white supervisor in the retail sector or in a government building. (In fact you will find a large percentage of blacks in government buildings) The medical field down here seems to be dominant with minority Asians and blacks.

    3. The workplace still has large undercurrents of racism but more focused on blacks feeling of white favoritism and white feelings of black laziness. (At least in my workplace even though 60% of leadership is black)

    4. Very little co-mingling of minorities and whites after working hours. Some Facebook communication but not much real hanging out together time.

    5. Even though we have Fair Housing Laws and we do have many mixed neighborhoods, mainly in fringe poor and lower middle class areas. Poor neighborhoods are mainly black and are in government sponsored housing areas. We have large predominantly Asian minority areas , a totally high class black area and high end white areas with only a small black presence.

    6. We have many clubs and bars that are majority black or majority white. Very little social mixing.

    7. Public Transportation is predominantly black and city supported.

    8. Voting politics is pretty much across party lines. Democrat for poor areas and Republican for the rest.

    Overall, I guess, not much has changed in all the time I have lived here. I do see more inter-racial couples but the majority of them come here as a result of the Navy and Army in our area. I have not seen any open racism in years but there is still plenty of under the breath or covert racism on all sides.

    The cops getting away with it is WRONG.

    I was referring to the incident in Ferguson, Missouri where a black man tried to kill a white police officer after a robbery gone bad and many black people then became angry and wanted to punish the white police officer who was just defending himself.

    It's sad you guys act like it is just the police officers who are committing the crimes while ignoring the fact that the police officer is innocent at times. In this case Michael brown was killed but only after he attempted to kill the police officer.

    Brown tried to take the gun of officer Darren wilson and had he taken it the officer would probably be dead but I don't see anyone pointing that fact out and I doubt the black community would have been upset about a white man dying from a black man. Be real here. They don't even care that more than 90% of all black people killed are from other black people. They only care when it's a race issue. Pathetic.

    I read a story online where two young black men took a very beautiful young white blond teenage girl off her bike, murdered her and stuffed her body into a trash bag yet I did not see public outcry or rage over this. Black people only care if a black person does by a white person.

    It's so stupid and it needs to stop. Black people are just as racist as white people and to think otherwise is to ignore the facts.
    Michael Brown tried to take the cop's gun so he could murder him with it. Is he innocent? Not all cops are evil. More than 90% of all black deaths are from other black people and not cops.

    I don't look the wrong way. I am not advocating for criminals facing down cops whom are definitely armed.

    I am on the wrong side means you enjoy advocating for criminals. I do not.
