The future of this world is renewable, sustainable energy. If you don't believe that then my reasoning will only rattle around in your head. The right wings president ,probably just to poke a finger into the eye of the environmentalist. Moved to bring coal back into the system in as big a way as possible. He sold it to the mindless because it is cheaper. If ,as I say, that the future is green energy, then there will be massive increase in research and new ideas and a massive increase in production and dollar bills in this new energy. . Tell me what will happen in a country that blows off the environment and goes to highly polluting cheap energy with coal. That massive research , ideas and increased wealth and industry will find a place that they can compete in. It won't be this country. The right wing president is incompetent and a danger in many ways to this country, as his supporters are then.
Coal is green energy. When you burn coal it releases an extremely beneficial byproduct called carbon dioxide. Plants then use that carbon dioxide to live. And in a process called photosynthesis plants convert carbon dioxide and water into the carbohydrates and oxygen that keep people alive. Also, increased levels of CO2 in the air make food crops healthier and more resistant to drought. CO2 is the green gas.
Big coal is not coming back, unless either fracking is outlawed or there is some way to cheaply turn coal into automobile fuel. It's all based on economics. With cheap fracking produced natural gas, it's almost impossible for coal to be a cheaper way to produce electricity. NG gas turbine power plants have a lot less overhead than do coal powered plants, and are much easier to ramp up/down. Takes a few minutes to get up a bigger head of steam. It takes seconds to turn up a gas turbine.
Big coal can come back if the regulations on it are decreased but your comment made me look into this more and You are right about the natural gas being cheap. So I learned something. but With the ding bat we have in office, those coal regulations can go to no regulations. Unregulated coal or even less regulated coal, would if allowed, come back as big coal.
I expected a few of these ridiculous responses. First you have zero knowledge of global climate change and you have zero knowledge of the multiple pollution that goes with coal. With global climate change I can explain how a large part of this world will get colder with global heating. You can't move agriculture norms that are aligned with climate without a massive expense and hardship. That alone is a reason to worry about our environment and that's way done the list of importance of what pollution causes. Someone told you what to say and gave you a sucker to repeat it ,so now we have to listen to your nonsense.
I agree but what is a viable backup power supply for when Green Tech isn't working wind doesn't blow the same everywhere, night negates solar power and many events could be an issue if a big asteroid hit and sent up ash solar ends as a viable power source for a prolonged period. Now we have oil and natural gas but those in theory are finite, coal is finite but again there is a lot of it domestically in many big countries and nuclear power which research could make practical and safer but people are afraid of and the regulations are very strict. So for me the best USA backup is coal fired power plants using scrubbing tech in stacks and improving the removal of dangerous waste and better storage to use to shore up green technologies until they get good enough.
It may be partly stupid....... but not entirely! http://www.politicalforum.com/index...er-deliberately-use-global-dimming-to.355448/ Did President G. W. Bush and P. M. Harper deliberately use Global Dimming to.. .... ...... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/tvradio/programmes/horizon/dimming_trans.shtml
The point I'm trying to make and I guess I am doing it poorly .Is that deregulating Coal as The goofball president wants is ridiculous. Because the only way that we will be a leader in the future which will be green energy is by making it so that it can compete here as soon as possible , Thats gives it a market here which probably every country would need, this country to make it worth the investment in engeneering and cost
The democrats hate coal because it reminds them of all the things Santa brought them as bratty little children. Nobody alive will see a green energy future. Natural gas is the next wave of energy. Green energy is just a free rider for now.
That's just ignorant. It's cost competitive now in many places in the world, some like Australia are a natural for solar energy, right now Australia charges three time what is charged in this country per kilowatt and that is generally the case through out this world. . The cost per kilowatt is going down at a rate that will make it the only economical sensible way and just years. Electricity is cheap in this country , so if the market isn't here then the massive profits and major industry that goes with it won't be here. Trying to bring coal back would make it worse, and I'm not talking about the environment that the right doesn't believe is a man made problem but I'm talking dollars and cents, big dollars and cents. If you want to look at reasons why this isn't happening you would best look at who the winners and who the losers would be if the world went green, just follow the money. Hell we have a whole party here that can be bought off so easily that they have their puppets believing that global heating isn't from the pollution of man. They have even found trained seals to argue the case for them.
What responses? I'm the only one who responded to the thread before the above post, and I said nothing about the above.
You probably have zero knowledge of the pollution that goes with green energy. Just because you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
It is "cost competitive" because it there is fossil fuel standby power. "Green" energy cannot stand alone on a market scale.
First of all, coal has been in decline for its own reasons and what's left is so automated that any claim that we can bring back coal jobs is total ignorant BS. So Drumpfster is spewing ignorant BS except I suspect he actually knows better. Secondly, coal is not "cheap energy". Wind power is cheaper. Solar is nearly equally cheap as wind power now and getting cheaper fast. But our politicians on both sides have ceded our technological lead to China and they are eating our lunch. There was no reason to do this other than corporate opposition to development of the technology that would lead to an end to fossil fuels. The fossil fuel industry wants to keep us spewing CO2 as we burn their product and our government is in their pocket. Together, they would rather the US decline in economics, technology, and wealth in order to keep fossil fuels burning and keep the industry elite wealthy. They both lack patriotism and are selling us down the river. Another reason we need socialism.
No. Good for coal industry wealthy elite. HOW is it "good for our economy"? Jobs? Coal jobs aren't coming back because coal mining is very highly automated and only supports about 70,000 jobs instead of the millions it used to support. So HOW is it "good for our economy"?
