Mountain Men is hilarious! It's all long pauses and implied peril, post-advert rehashes lasting longer than actual content, and a melodramatic soundtrack to go with it. In 'reality', it's a bunch of ancient has-beens pretending to be still full of youthful vim and vigour, and no actual bears .. ever. Having said that, I have a soft spot for Marty. To my mind, he's the only one approaching the real deal. Eustace seems as though he might once have been, but has kinda sold out somewhat. Either way, they're the only two under the age of 120, so that's something.
I like border control shows. UK/Austrlia/Ireland I see on TV and the US one I see on YouTube. These shows remind me of this show the UK had in the 1990s at London's Heathrow which focused on the airport.
I liked the early seasons of Gold Rush. I liked the neighbours (the 94 year old miner and his grandson), and that father/son team who bought out the Jesus People.
but it's soooo cheesy. and only the first season or two actually used ordinary people (bless that funny old nudist, Dick Hatch). pretty much every season since has used models and would-be actors. once it crossed over from regular joes to plasticly perfect 25 year olds, it lost all juice.
I think there are 3 survivor alums living in my city, including one very infamous one, as well as probably a dozen or so folks from other reality shows. I get your point, but part of it is that people may be ordinary when they are first cast, but then they go off the deep end. There is this whole culture of how to get screen time on reality shows--some people even get training in it ahead of time by private coaches--because often the big pay off isn't the show, but being enough of a "personality" that gets you paid appearances after the show runs. Of course, the vast majority of them see that $2K+expenses to come party at the club for a few hours become $250 and you pay your own expenses by the time the next season of the show rolls around.
Survivor has morphed over the seasons and how people play their part. I thought Cochran winning was unbelievable. I wonder if they will ever let a disabled person compete well into the game. The disabled are usually voted out because no one wants to challenge the "pity" against them at the end. I also enjoy watching how the Black guy is so clumsy in team competitions and is transformed when it is individual competition. Watch for it. And the French tried to produce a Survivor but one of their players dropped dead of a heart attack during the production. Isn't Survivor from a Japanese TV program?
I think it ended a few years after survivor aired. Not sure what the Swedes watch. I think they have moved onto naked survivor shows though.
I know that road where that home is in Croydon, that's in my neighbourhood and is not too far away from mine, like a couple of roads away.
