As long as your 'now' is hypothetical that 'all cars are electric' it's kind of silly to leave out the other hypotheticals like greatly improved battery technology, like hybrid electric technology, like charging stations everywhere, like auto-charging through the road systems? Or why not hypothesize 'all' the cars are self-drivng and therefore can be more efficient and travel at much higher net speeds? Why not talk about an electric vehicle not needing to wait in hours-long gas station lines? So I have no problem imagining only electric vehicles 'now' but this must also be accompanied by imagining very efficient electric vehicle technologies and infrastructure...

I've seen a few concepts for a Gasoline-Electric hybrid. Basically it's a gasoline turbine engine that spins an electric generator. Fuel economies were measured in Hours per Gallon and were pretty up there. Last one I heard about (forgot which TV show mentioned it...sorry) was getting three quarters of hour per gallon. So with a standard 12-gallon tank, that's 9 hours of operation and if you're doing highway speeds (say 65 MPH) that's 565 miles of range. Not too shabby and would make for a good bridge until recharge times and battery capacities can provide the range/charge times we need to get really viable.
That's not what he is saying. He is saying that a diesel generator is versatile and in an emergency, you can consider alternative fuels. When everybody is fleeing a hurricane and the gas stations are empty, you can go to a grocery store and get a few gallons of cooking oil. The generator for a series hybrid can run at a constant rpm and be tuned for maximum efficiency and minimum noise. It can be turned on or off automatically or manually to improve efficiency. If you know you are a few miles from home, you can switch off the generator and charge at home for about a nickel/mile. It also only needs to be large enough to meet the average power demand of a car. 15-20 hp should be enough. The work is all done by the electric motor.
like I said I have little patience for people with no tecnological background that are in over their heads. my advice is to get a degree in EE first then come back and continue your attempt on discussing feasibility.
first off you wouldnt want to use a diesel or any ICE, you would want to use an ECE resonant stirling design for maximum efficiency and they can burn wood and anything thats laying around like road kill and other peoples car seats etc LOL.

They already do that on decel or coast, its called regen. Have to say the bumps idea is a really good one the rougher the roads the better. LOL That would work well, but I'd be curious how much power youd actually get from the bumps, I am not sure its worth the infrastructure required to achieve it. I suspect only a couple percent tops? Another one that could be a real payoff would be using the wind resistance of the vehicle moving through the air the same way so when you are pushing a tough wind but I cant imagine what kind of contraption could be designed to accommodate it. Why don't you explain to me how it works, how it will be safe with an open flame in a moving vehicle, how far it can get on a "fill up", and what the emissions will be like? I've seen steam powered cars that run on firewood. How would your suggestion be any better?
My suggestion is over 80++% efficient and it charges the battery and is not part of the drive train. Dont blame me you chose to 'argue' topics above or outside your knowledge base. Now if your name was Leonardo Gasendo you would have just recieved a compliment from me, but its not.
