In the 60s. You could go from basic, to AIT, to OCS. Just like that. Happened all the time. And you didn't need a college degree.
60s? Ok that makes more sense. Now, it's a very intricate process. The ONLY way you can go to OCS without having completed your degree is if you are in the NG and you have 90 college credits (making you a senior) and you can't make pass O-2 without completing your degree. APFT is also a huge portion of OCS consideration. Need to be a PT stud to have a chance. And the hard part of this is that everything in OCS is done by OML. Only the top 10% of candidates get to choose the branch they want. Other 90% choose what's left over or slot-able
They had several infantry AITs around the country. I went to the one at Fort McClellan Alabama. Benning was even then the home of the infantry though. Jump school, Ranger school, infantry OCS, etc.
There's only one place now, and it's benning. All infantry OSUT is done there. The only thing you can get picked for during OSUT is airborne or RASP (ranger assessment school). OCS is a whole new breed.
No matter what, by the time they hit 20 they get retired at O-4 usually. And if they can't cut O-4 then they get busted-out at O-2 or O-3 like I said.
Well I don't have really any current Army friends. Most of my military vet friends have been "out" for 5 or more years. But I cannot imagine things change. The military career counselors and monitors have not changed. And they call those shots.
It's amazing how wrong this comment is. I take it you've been out for quite some time. It's all about the budget. When the budget changes, we change. Wow...
There is nothing new about "the budget" changing. And you seem rather naïve about the JCS and Pentagon. There is nothing new about them except steers and queers.
LOL! Max AIJ budget last year for our unit: 7 Mil Min this year? 21 Mil No changes? Craziest **** I ever heard. I'm in the manpower division dude....
One way I can tell you don't know Army budgets is you never knew the stress of October 1. The AFY (Army Fiscal Year) is when everything changes. It's when slots open, slots close, it's when huge bonuses are stacked, or removed...etc. Budget doesn't change? Come on man, that's a ridiculous comment.
Rules for officer candidates at OCS: From now on you will speak only when spoken to, And the first and last words out of your mouth will be "Platoon Sergeant"! Do you worms understand that? Louder! Sound off like you've got a pair. Do not ever assume. Spell it -- ass-u-me. That's what happens when you assume. You will learn your general orders by memory. They are: - To take charge of this post and all property in view; - To walk my post in a military manner being always on the alert for everything within sight or hearing; - To talk to no one except in the line of duty; - To report all violations of orders I am instructed to enforce; - To give the alarm in case of fire or disorder; - To repeat all calls from posts more distant from the guard house than my own; - To call the corporal of the guard in all cases not covered by orders; - To be especially watchful at night, and during the time for challenging to challenge everyone on or near my post and allow no one to pass without proper authority; - To receive and pass on to the sentry who relieves me all orders from the commanding officer, officer of the day, and officers and noncommissioned officers of the watch only; - To salute all officers and colors not cased. - To quit my post only when properly relieved.
