I would like to take this moment to declare the death of Alt Right. The movement has bothered me for quite some time now and now that they have stepped out of the closet by taking a stance against Catalan secession, it is official that these guys are globalo-socialist and thus every right-winger's enemy. Imbeciles! The "European Alt Right" (Identitarians and Nouvelle Droite) are at least intellectual and truly right-wing. I really hope they cut all ties with their American "brothers", because, clearly, they are not here to make the world a better place. I am 100% certain that no one will remember the "Alt Right" in five years time. RIP.
The Alt Right was never really alive in the U.S., more of a "boogeyman behind every tree" kind of thing, like Nazis and KKK, for virtue signaling twits to rave and hiss about instead of engaging in adult policy discussions.
it was a loose coalition of Extremely Online nerds who were really shocked when they marched alongside neonazis america's militia/patriot movement is much more dangerous and insidious
Sadly Conservatives who -- oppose Free Speech (like flag burning) -- support discrimination (like Alt Right) -- want to criminalize LGBT do exist. Such Conservatives are very rare. Liberals who oppose Freedom are a very powerful force.
What American "alt-right" groups are you talking about that opposed Catalan secession? I'm not sure which imaginary group you're talking about.
Liberals and conservatives take turns opposing 'free speech' depending on how it is defined, who owns the institutions being threatened by it at the moment, and who's ox is being gored. Those of us with more a more secure and consistent set of standards that we depend on to give us guidance, on either side, have to remind the others from time to time..
As a moderate republican I can say I never even heard if these ********s nuntil dems brought them up. Don't support any extremist groups on either side. Especially violent ones like like the protestors on the left that destroy property and attack peaceful protesters in the right. People that attack persons and property in groups are called terrorists and should arrested. Destroying statues no matter what the statue represents is destruction of state, county, city or all of the former, property and is likely a felony
Oh well, good night, alt right. Now there's the kinder, gentler 'alt light', which is an appropriate moniker when one considers what, exactly, is the alternative to light.
Except they are real and some of them have killed people or been caught plotting terrorist acts. So, there's that.
Definitely, no argument, there are certainly a couple of thousand out there somewhere. It was falsely advertised as a mass movement, though, which like all LW narratives, is turning out to be a fabrication. My favorite day of the 2016 campaign was when Clinton went full screechy witch on the "alt right"
Imaginary? Really? Richard Spencer has tweeted his fingertips off about it [1] and their official webpage has - recengly - posted a laughable article on the matter [2]. You mean Richard Spencer and altright.com are "imaginary groups" that aren't representative of tbe movement? They are pathetic. [1] https://mobile.twitter.com/RichardBSpencer/status/911346084659781634 [2] https://altright.com/2017/09/22/cat...ke-and-white-nativists-will-never-support-it/ What kind of 4th-grader-esque, emotional "argument" is this? An absolute load of "muh, muh, muh". I commented on their pathetic article, but guess what? I had my comment deleted!
the alternative right will never die... they will fade and reappear, they will change and change again... albeit at a slower pace than the rest of us
alt-right itself is imaginary. Created by leftists to make the right sound more dangerous and allow them to lump everyone on the right with extremists.
Alt right for the poorly educated Richard Bertrand Spencer (born May 11, 1971 is an American white supremacist. He is president of the National Policy Institute, a white supremacist think tank, as well as Washington Summit Publishers. Spencer has stated that he rejects the label of white supremacist, and prefers to describe himself as an identitarian. He has advocated for a white homeland for a "dispossessed white race" and called for "peaceful ethnic cleansing" to halt the "deconstruction" of European culture. Spencer and others have said that he created the term "alt-right", which he considers a movement about white identity. Breitbart News described Spencer's website AlternativeRight.com as "a center of alt-right thought."
Yep, only a party can be destroyed or subverted. A movement is not a party, it is a grass root thing. As long as the forces, that "created" AltRight, are at work, AltRight will change form and become stronger. I cannot see that the commie-globalist insanity, that is destroying the USA and the west, is dying, so the rumour about the death of AltRight, which is just like a reaction of a healthy body to an infection, is a bit exaggerated. The more the commies and their financiers will push their destructive for national states agenda, the more average people will support AltRight.
It really is uniteresting whether an independent Catalunya would be "left-wing" or "right-wing". What is important here is the vast decentralisation process that comes with secession - something every "rightie" should support. Furthermore, small nations cannot really compete with larger nations in offering residence so they have to offer tons of freedom and minimal government intervention to make people stay (look at Singapore, Monaco and Liechtenstein, for example). When did small government and individual autonomy become something for a right-winger to oppose? These guys are not "right wing" in any sense of the word. They want the exact thing that they claim to be fighting - centralisation, globalism and socialism. Morons.
This nation was founded by liberals on liberal principles. Our country has become progressively more liberal throughout it's history. That will continue irrespective of the degree of obstruction that tries to stem the tide of liberalism that is the core value of America.
Ha! This nation was founded on the ideals of freedom and limited government following the experience we had with the overbearing British government. Conservatives have been trying to hang on to the goal of limited government for 241 years. Meanwhile, our opposition has been working tirelessly to expand government's control over lives.
BZZZT Wrong! The initial LIBERTARIAN government of the 13 colonies was the reaction to the British government formed under the Articles of Confederation. It was a complete and utter FAILURE because it LACKED the central government CONTROL necessary over the states that was ESSENTIAL for it to be FUNCTIONAL and EFFECTIVE. The Constitution was the result of SCRAPPING the abysmal FAILURE of Libertarianism and adopting the PRAGMATISM of a central government WITH THE POWER to form a UNION that would ensure the GENERAL WELFARE of We the People. Those who yearn for the failure of Libertarianism always try to IGNORE that INCONVENIENT TRUTH.
The power of the federal government in the 1700's was appropriate. It was set up correctly. But we have expanded the power of the federal government exponentially since then, thanks to our leftist friends. The U.S. today is not what the Founding Fathers had hoped for. They'd be disappointed in how much we've screwed things up.
The Founding Fathers were PRAGMATISTS who implemented a government Single Payer medical program and a database of firearms and their owners shortly after the nation was established under the Constitution. What they would consider to be "screwed up" is the "gun culture" that has turned this nation into a shooting gallery.
