https://www.theatlantic.com/science...mocratic-plan-to-fight-climate-change/543981/ An interesting article. It very clearly articulates what so many of us, here on these forums, have said over the years. Ask the faithful for their solutions, and sit back, and wait. It is truly as simple as that. Watch the solutions tear themselves apart at the seams, displace labor, disrupt economies, all in the name of the faith. And let's at least be a little honest here. For our liberal posters, the ask is to take a moment, and reflect. What are your solutions? Who do you choose to win in your world of regulatory scarcity?
In another thread about a leak in an oil pipeline being reason to be against pipelines, I asked for a better and safer leak proof form of transportation. Crickets!
As with almost every policy position I can think of, the progressive/liberal solution is tyranny. Asking how tyranny solves the problems, they have nothing. And continue to have nothing. Their only answer is make stuff illegal to use, and whine about it.
Yep, if you can't think of a better way just riot and or force people to do it the worse way that is considered the green way. Electric cars and the associated pollution from manufacturing batteries comes to mind. https://science.howstuffworks.com/s...-production-waste-offset-hybrid-benefits1.htm
Why do we get denier propaganda threads like this one? Because they're panicking. Despite their constant efforts, the percentage of the population which rejects the denier conspiracy religion keeps increasing. https://www.climatechangecommunicat...ate-Change-American-Mind-October-2017-min.pdf That's got to sting. The denier cultists here have literally devoted years of their lives to their Stalinist propaganda, and all it's gotten them is humiliation.
The problem with the Democrats is that they are infected by the right wing. They happily support big business and they are easily corrupted by the moral hazard generated by fossil fuel industries. Shouldn't you be demanding that the Democrats are more radical?
Interesting that as more people believe man is effecting the climate more people are opting for bigger cars which proves the point of the OP. That's got to sting. Why Americans Are Buying More Trucks And SUVs Than Cars https://www.npr.org/2016/05/09/477301486/why-americans-are-buying-more-trucks-and-suvs-than-cars
They definitely need reduced ties with big business. That isn't an easy proposition mind you when the US is effectively corrupted by consensus politics (as the petty left and petty right play games with the median voter model)
I agree. The article is interesting. How would you feel about this proposed action? https://www.theatlantic.com/science...blican-proposal-for-a-carbon-tax-okay/516048/
A Republican surely should be referring to the Coase Theorem and referring to some aspect of 'cap and trade'?
I have consistently opposed this type of plan. It is nothing more than a redistribution plan that further concentrates wealth in the hands of the very few and oh so entitled. The plan was hatched by Goldman Sachs after all. It endeavors to codify a legislative annuity for the government, and the privileged few who own the carbon markets themselves, structurally ensuring that both carve off a slice of revenue from the rest of us.
I think I may have included a link which was too similar to yours (They are from the same website). I am asking what you think of the plan in the second link. Repeated here: https://www.theatlantic.com/science...blican-proposal-for-a-carbon-tax-okay/516048/
Yes. And I do, constantly. The very worst offenders (of spastic consumerism), in my experience, are middle class and above Leftists. They travel (by air) the most, and they buy the most imported foods and consumables. And oddly, those who bleat the loudest about the environment, are the ones who travel the most. They post stuff on social media about the importance of recycling your trash, then post pics of their latest trip to Paris.
So much fun to read. And not a solution in sight. Thanks, again, for posting this little treasure. Embedded ad hominem, gratuitous snark. All in the name of what? Care to elaborate on your solution?
There are no viable solutions to the Climate Change scenario. If deniers are right we all have nothing to worry about, if alarmists are right it's way too late and humans cannot even get together to stop Nut job crazy folk....there is absolutely no way we can agree on this. My advice is to accept the inevitable and prepare as best you can for whatever you believe.
More than half of the human race is idiots and an even higher percentage is made up of people that complete their "research" on a subject by reading polls.
They didn't create consumerism though did they? And won't they often vote against those who want unsustainable growth to continue unchecked? The Democrats, in terms of party machinery, is problematic because of a disease in the US political system (a worsening one at that mind you, given Trump)
I'm not sure what you mean here. You seem to be giving your assessment of the plan discussed in your link. I am asking what you think of the plan offered in mine. Here's the relevant bit...
