The Internal Revenue Service is installing a safe to protect President Trump’s widely sought tax returns, the outgoing IRS commissioner said in a recent interview. Mr. Trump’s tax returns and those of his predecessors are currently kept “in a locked cabinet in a locked room that nobody’s in,” but additional measures are in the works to further safeguard the president’s wanted financial filings, former IRS Commissioner John Koskinen told Politico for a report published Wednesday, “We’re in the process of turning that cabinet into a safe,” added Mr. Koskinen, the head of the tax agency until earlier this month. Mr. Trump is the first president since the 1970s to refrain from releasing his previous tax returns, and he’s repeatedly claimed that his attorneys have advised him to withhold them while he undergoes a “routine audit.” https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/nov/16/irs-is-building-a-safe-to-protect-donald-trumps-ta/
Your outraged about this but not about Louis Lerner targeting the tea party right before an election and the piece of crap Eric holder not indicting her?
Based on your thread title, I assume you've answered your own question via the information you posted in the body of your OP. Frankly, I would have suggested the President use the same safe President Obama used to lock up his school records. That one is clearly impenetrable.
Donald Trumps mistakes and missteps both negligent and deliberate since becoming president are legion. Yet its stuff like this that Sandy Shanks is outraged enough by to start YET ANOTHER thread? And the anti Trumpers wonder why so many don't take them seriously........
Worse still, if this is true, what does it say about the trust the head of the IRS has for their employees? It is a felony for a government employee to release someone's tax return. 26 U.S. Code § 7213 - Unauthorized disclosure of information (a) Returns and return information (1) Federal employees and other persons It shall be unlawful for any officer or employee of the United States or any person described in section 6103(n) (or an officer or employee of any such person), or any former officer or employee, willfully to disclose to any person, except as authorized in this title, any return or return information (as defined in section 6103(b)). Any violation of this paragraph shall be a felony punishable upon conviction by a fine in any amount not exceeding $5,000, or imprisonment of not more than 5 years, or both, together with the costs of prosecution, and if such offense is committed by any officer or employee of the United States, he shall, in addition to any other punishment, be dismissed from office or discharged from employment upon conviction for such offense. Yet, as you pointed out, the outrage has to do with getting a safe, rather than outrage that a safe would be required. Your point about being taken seriously is spot on.
What does that have to do with Trump's tax returns he won't disclose? Do you feel that incident, even if true, is on par with the President hiding his tax returns from Americans? When are you going to wise up? What a foolish statement. Comical, even. And one of desperation as you are running out of excuses for this man. .
Trumpians seem incapable of handling the disturbing facts concerning Trump. They want to switch the subject to Obama. The tactic is infantile and exposes their complete inability to defend the current President. So, they bring up racist myths concerning a black President who has not served in over ten months. Pathetic. But then so is the President they chose but can no longer defend.
Are you saying this should not be taken seriously? The Internal Revenue Service is installing a safe to protect President Trump’s widely sought tax returns. On the other hand, you also said, Donald Trumps mistakes and missteps both negligent and deliberate since becoming president are legion. Yes, this is still another serious mistake made by Trump. There have been many and you said it best. They have become legion. But it is first worse than Trump being merely a buffoon. There are serious allegations that he, members of his staff, and members of his family collaborated with the Russians when they interfered in our elections. Moreover, it is becoming increasingly clear -- the hidden tax returns is just the latest indicator -- that Putin has something on Trump. Both of these issues pose a clear and present danger to our national security. That forms the basis of my criticism of Trump. I believe rather strongly that he is dangerous.
Once again why should Trump or any future president release his tax returns to the public After Harry Reid lied about Romney's and said he was glad he did it ? That is another S.O.B. Democrat that lowered the bar .. He lied about Romney's tax returns He had his China solar deals in Nevada He used the nuclear opition and the republicans used it right back... The left really has to stop lowering the bar the right is finnaly catching on.
Collaborating with the Russians to beat Hillary Clinton is not a danger to our national security. Nor is it illegal or unethical. It doesn't even constitute an act of war. Nor is it unprecedented by one nation to attempt to influence the democratic process in another nation (we've done it repeatedly).
I find it odd that the fact that Trumps and his inner circle have their taxes secured is the story and not the fact that the IRS is so worried about their theft for political purposes. IMO, if their theft is so much of a concern, a full investigation into every employee with access to this info should be launched to see if their political affiliations may affect their ability to do their job.
According to our intell agencies, Russia interfered in our election on Trump's behalf. According to you, Americans collaborating with them in this effort is not illegal or unethical. You then feel, it is perfectly okay for a hostile foreign power to interfere in our election. According to you, the special prosecutor and four Congressional committees looking into this matter is a waste of time because the collaboration is not legal, noting that you agree there was collaboration "with the Russians to beat Hillary Clinton." Fine, you can think that, if you like. There are a lot people, including the Trump administration, who disagree with you. They think those investigations are very really and nearly everyone in the White House has lawyered up.
I never said it's "okay" Sandy. But its what nations do to other nations. The United States has tried to interfere in elections for Prime Minister in Israel (among others) and influence the Brexit vote in United Kingdom. The British interfered in the presidential election that put Benjamin Harrisson in office in the late 1800s.
What are you talking about? Do you know? Whatever "sandys plan" is -- I have no idea what that is -- I do know this. It has has absolutely nothing to do with Trump's tax returns locked away by the IRS. Thank you. I pick issues that I think are important to members of this forum. Moreover, I encourage intelligent discussion of the issues, emphasis on "intelligent." I honestly see no harm in that. In terms of learning, there may even be some good.
